to Him should not be based out of fear, works or deeds. c. The message of God’s love has become one of a “works” message to many

how the world portrays and loves; that, sadly, has entered into the body of Christ. b. “If you really love God. You’ll do this, serve here, don’t do this or that….”c. God’s love is not something he demands of you. God’s love is what he has

demonstrated TO YOU!

B. God is not a God of nice words of what he thinks about you, but of MOVEMENT towards you. He had to show and reveal His heart and love to you!(Scripture references in this section are taken from the New King James Version of the Bible unless otherwise indicated.)

1. John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

2. Matthew 18:11-13: “For the Son of Man has come to save that which was lost. [12] What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine and go to the mountains to seek the one that is straying? [13] And if he should find it, assuredly, I say to you, he rejoices more over that sheep than over the ninety-nine that did not go astray.”

3. Romans 2:4: “Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?”

4. Romans 8:32-39: “He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? [33] Who shall bring a charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. [34] Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. [35] Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or

peril, or sword? [36] As it is written: "For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.” [37] Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. [38] For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, [39] nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

5. Romans 5:5-8: “Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. [6] For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. [7] For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. [8] But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

6. Revelation 1:5: “And from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood.”

7. Titus 3:4-7: “But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, [5] not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, [6] whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, [7] that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

8. Hebrews 9:24, 26: “For Christ has not entered the holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us [26] He then would have had to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but now, once at the end of the ages, He has appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself.”

9. 2 Peter 3:9: “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.”

10. 1 John 2:2: “And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.”

11. 1 John 4:8-10: “He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. [9] In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. [10] In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”

12. Isaiah 49:15- 16: “Can a woman forget her nursing child, and not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely they may forget, yet I will not forget you. [16] See, I

have inscribed you on the palms of My hands; Your walls are continually before Me.”

13. Ephesians 2:8-10: “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, [9] not a result of works, so that no one may boast. [10] For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” (English Standard Version)

14. Colossians 2:13- 14: “And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, [14] by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.”

II. Deeper Study TimeA. Matthew 22:34-40

1. Focusing on God’s love for you brings you into Grace. a. Jesus and Father were “moved with compassion” not pity (which has

condemnation) or sympathy (which has distance). Compassion always led to miracles.

2. Matthew 9:36, Matthew 15:32/ Mark 8:2 – Fed people3. Matthew 14:14 – Healing4. Matthew 15:32 – Fed people5. Matthew 18:27 – Forgiveness6. Matthew 20:34 – Healing7. Mark 1:41 – Healing8. Mark 5:19 – Delivered from demon possession9. Mark 6:34 – Taught10. Mark 9:22 – Helped find faith and delivered from demon possession11. Luke 7:13 – Raised the dead12. Luke 7:12 – This was the only motivation Jesus needed!13. Luke 10:33 – Saved the dying man who was robbed (picture of a dying world)14. Luke 15:20 – Picture of restoration of the world

B. Love motivates us, because love is God – 1 John 4:7-8

1. The love of man instills fear.a. Being a man pleaser will only keep you in bondage.

2. The love of God is freedom.a. When you know how much God loves you, who cares what others think!

3. Operating in signs and wonders come from understanding how much God loves you.a. The love of God produces an attitude of faith.b. When you understand how much God loves you, you will also understand how

much God loves others.c. This causes us to stop asking God to heal, and realize that He already did it!

Page 4: s3.awmi.nets3.awmi.net/...bible-study_week-ten_02-28-17.pdf.docx  · Web viewCarrie Pickett Live Bible Study Notes ... The love of God will transform the way you read the Word of

d. This will also indicate how we treat each other.e. This will keep us from walking in offense!f. This is the most important thing you can ever understand, and it should govern the

way you look at the whole World!4. Many people think they already know everything about God’s love, and want to move

on to “deeper” things. (Ephesians 3:14-20) (1 Corinthians 2:9)a. If/ When/ Because = World’s kind of love

5. Romans 5:8 – God’s kind of lovea. We need to personalize the love of God.b. Yes, God loves the World, but He specifically loves me. (Psalms 139)

6. The love of God will transform the way you read the Word of God.a. You can read the Word and find law, or you can read the Word as God wrote it.

7. Peter/ John comparisona. John was the “disciple whom Jesus loved.”

1. John was at the foot of the cross when Jesus was crucified.2. John got a revelation of how much he was loved by Jesus! This led to a whole

other level of courage and relationship. b. Peter was strict and rigid!

1. Peter ran in the midst of persecution because he was trying to love God out of his own strength versus knowing the love of Jesus toward him.

8. We have all heard 1 John 4:17: “as He is, so are we in this world;” but it is surrounded by the love of God. a. A revelation of God’s love produces trust, which then produces obedience.b. Obedience then produces an example of God’s love to the world and other

believers.c. It brings forth fruit (miracles, signs and wonders, etc.)

III.Understanding God’s love for you will revolutionize your relationship with God.A. We do not approach God based on our own righteousness, but based upon His, and as

sons and daughters. (Hebrews 4:16)B. God’s love produces our response. We understand that we love Him because He first

loved us. (1 John 4:19)1. We do not work to gain acceptance; we are accepted, and anointed.

C. We grow in a revelation and understanding of God’s grace toward us.D. How do we grow in God’s love?

1. Study the Word- from God’s point of view.2. Ask the Spirit of God to teach you about God’s love.3. Don’t get complacent about discovering God’s love.

a. You are meant to participate in it!4. Ask God to show you how much He loves you (everyday).

a. Your heart will recognize God’s love for you! b. It will be different for each of us.

IV. Understanding God’s love empowers us to say “no” to the lies and attacks of the enemy.

Page 5: s3.awmi.nets3.awmi.net/...bible-study_week-ten_02-28-17.pdf.docx  · Web viewCarrie Pickett Live Bible Study Notes ... The love of God will transform the way you read the Word of

A. Falling in love with God will give us a desire to say no to the devil1. God’s love causes you to understand your value.2. God’s love will cause you to understand what is based in fear and what is based

on love.3. Matthew Chapters 3 and 4 talk of the temptation of Jesus, and how He was able

to overcome those temptations.a. He understood He was the “beloved Son” of God.

V. How do we teach God’s love to others?A. Let people know that God is not afraid to show Himself, nor shy about “showing off”

about love towards His bride.B. Be able to share key verses, and learn to explain these verses to others.

1. Show how everything in the Word is motivated by the love of God.C. Explain the difference between God’s love and human love.D. Explain that God’s love and grace are based upon His goodness, and not our works

or righteousness towards him.

[10] If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.

John 15:12-13: This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. [13] Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

John 16:27: For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.

John 17:23: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.

John 17:26: And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.

Romans 2:4: Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?

Romans 3:22-24: Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference; [23] For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; [24] Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.

Romans 5:5-8: And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. [6] For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. [7] For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. [8] But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 8:32-39: He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? [33] Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? [4] But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, [5] Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) [6] And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: [7] That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. [8] For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: [9] Not of works, lest any man should boast.
