Which “Baptism” Did You Receive? 4 There is one body and one Spirit — just as you were called to one hope when you were called — 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. Ephesians 4:4-6
In today’s world, there are five main baptisms being taught:
Infant Baptism (Practiced mainly by the Catholic, Lutheran and Episcopalian churches). These denominations believe that a child is born with the sin of Adam and baptism washes away this sin.
An Outward Sign Of An Inward Grace – Baptism (Practiced by most mainstream Protestant churches). These denominations believe that a person is saved when they accept Jesus as their personal Savior by praying what they believe to be the “sinner’s prayer”. Then sometime in the future the person is baptized as an outward sign of the grace they received when they prayed the prayer.
Baptism For The Dead (Practiced only by the Mormon Church). This is a baptism of proxy, where the Mormons baptize themselves – on the behalf of people who have already died – to prepare those who died for the spirit world.
Baptism Of The Holy Spirit (Practiced by the Pentecostal and charismatic churches). These denominations baptize people by laying their hands on people and through this baptism this imparts miraculous gifts.
Baptism Into Christ For The Forgiveness Of Sins (Practiced by most churches of Christ and Christian churches). This baptism is for people who have faith prior to baptism (Mark 16:16). This baptism is for people who have decided to follow Jesus prior to baptism (Matt 28:19). This baptism is for people who have decided to repent and turn to God prior to their baptism (Acts 2:38). This baptism: Buries the dead body of sin into Christ’s death (Rom 6:4, Col 2:12); Clothes a person with Christ (Gal 3:27); Enters you into the family of God (Matt 28:19, Acts 2:41, I Cor 12:13); Washes away sins (Acts 22:16); and Saves you through Jesus (Mark 16:16, I Peter 3:21).
So, please prayerfully consider ...
Which baptism is the biblical one?
Which baptism did you receive? Remember there is only “One Baptism” (Ephesians 4:5)!!
