MINISTRY UPDATES – Q3, 2016 Purpose : Richview Baptist Church exists to glorify God by making disciples. We do this through: Worship Evangelism Discipleship Demonstrating our love by meeting the needs of others, particularly believers Ministry/Prime Update In August I (Rebecca Richards) transitioned roles to be the Director of Children’s Ministry. I first met with all of the Coordinators (Sandra Cooper, Deborah Ann Cassel, Pam Maio, & Heather Boyachek) to discuss and plan the coming school year and then put into action the things we planned. We have ordered custom Kids Ministry t-shirts. Each person volunteering with kids on a Sunday morning will wear one of our red shirts. This allows volunteers to be easily identifiable for all of the kids and parents, as well as portraying unity as a team. We have also implemented a new curriculum for grades 1-5. We have chosen Tru Curriculum by David C. Cook—all of which can be accessed online. All of the kids in these grades now start together for the main lesson and then break-off into small groups at the end of the lesson. In addition to a new curriculum, we have also introduced a kid’s worship time. Each week we sing a song with actions with the kids after the lesson. Community Groups are meeting at the church and in homes. We looked at Who Jesus is in John Ortberg’s study “Who is this man?” This was a good place to start as if we clearly understand who Jesus is we can move forward with confidence. The Sermon Series “Chasing the Wind” has got us to ask some tough questions of ourselves in group, and it has challenged how we live out our faith. We are looking forward to the Mark Series in the New Year. We excited, and praying for; some new groups that have started. Jonathan Clarke Community Groups Rebecca Richards Children/Kids

Ministry/Prime Update

In August I (Rebecca Richards) transitioned roles to be the Director of Children’s Ministry.

During the summer months, our numbers were lower. This affects the amount of food supplies we get from DBFB. In September, we had a sudden surge in family units & on two Sundays we ran out of food. When we receive donation, we are able to purchase supplies so this won’t happen again.

Special thanks to the seniors of Richview Residence who faithfully provide financial aid as well as volunteers to support our community efforts.

Weekly we need approx. 10-15 Volunteers. Thanks to all who commit to this outreach program.

We have 2 new Weekly Managers, Michael Adeleye & Jonathan Beenken. Welcome

Thanks to the ongoing support & work of Randy Redlich (song leader); Bev (pianist) & Grant (projectionist) Hallett, we continue to run the Hymn Sing the 3rd Sunday of every month. About 20-25 people enjoy singing the familiar hymn a lot of us have grown up with. Please join us.

With sorrow and excitement Youth Director, Micha Orth, was commissioned to a new season in his life with Operation Mobilization. I

n order to maintain the momentum created by summer camp and ‘kick’ off the fall season in style we had an afternoon of Bubble Soccer.

To extend beyond our Tuesday evening gatherings, One minute Bible’s were distributed to the Junior Highs. The weekly lessons correspond to their daily readings and we encourage parents to partner with us in the development and nurturing of the spiritual disciplines in their lives.

If you are in grade 6-8 come join us Tuesdays from 7-8:30pm @ Richview. This is so popular that we have had to limit ticket sales to 70 people. We

are consistently sold out about 2-3 weeks before the event. Thanks to Carol Pleven for the creating tasty menus & Heather Peat for

her creative decorations & bulletin announcing future events. Hopefully we’ll find an creative answer to the space limit.

We usually have speakers or entertainers who constantly engage the seniors in the words & testimony.

We do appreciate the church volunteers who provide assistance to those who have mobility issues.

Nancy has been working diligently on inputting the fiction section into the

computer system and now has it complete. Next will be the children's section. We plan on purchasing the hand scanner next year and adding bar codes to the books so checkout will be faster.

We've received a number of large print books that we're categorizing and they'll be available soon.

Our August Book/DVD of the Month featuring stories about persecution was well-received and an eye-opener for many.

Our last breakfast was held June 2016. We discussed “Selah”. For the month of July and August, “Selah”, a time to pause and prayerfully

reflect on God’s Word was offered in Inez’s home. A few women attended.

We met with the pastor to discuss our ministry goals and direction. In September, we participated on “Kickoff Sunday” where we had women

continued to show interest in the breakfast. There remain a core number of women who attend the breakfast and

continue to show interest in prayer. The women who attend express thanks for having special times they can enjoy like the prayer breakfast.

For the next few months we plan to continue with our program and identify the needs. We would like to encourage the younger women to attend

Pray: That more women would attend especially the younger women and that they would realize the importance of prayer in their life and in the life of the church

Let’s celebrate! This year Richview employed 20 staff and had 35 volunteers working alongside them to run a summer camp for 165 kids from our community.

We praise the Lord for providing the opportunity to not only share the gospel with the campers, but also for the chance to train and disciple the staff and volunteers.

We also wish to thank the congregation for its generosity; we were able to provide two snacks and a hot lunch everyday throughout the duration of camp.

We encourage you to continue to pray for those whose lives intersected with camp this year.

In July, the Missions Team (Janice Forbes, Gary Gould, Cameron Cooper, Don Neverson, & Rebecca Richards) commissioned Micha Orth as he started his missions year with Operation Mobilization. He is working as George Verwer’s travel assistant in mobilizing world missions.

In August we also commissioned the Nicaragua team before they left for 8 days . The Sunday after they got back from the trip, Brenda Gibbs gave a 5-minute synopsis of the trip during the service.

In September Vera Ivakina, one of our missionaries for 2016, came and shared about her ministry with Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship in Etobicoke high schools.

We don't run the Moms Arise program over the summer months so can't really report much for the 3rd quarter. We started up again in September with 5 regular Moms and 1 who comes occasionally. Lisa and I prayed over the summer for 1 new mom and God provided, we have one new mom who comes regularly and one who comes occasionally. We are looking forward to see what God is going to do this Moms Arise session

We have been going through the books of Moses – Exodus,

Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy. We have been able to experience the grace of God through the eyes of the Israelites. We have been able to see how God is faithful yesterday, today and tomorrow, and been able to look at how, Jesus is the ultimate fulfillment of a number of all that God ordained.

The next Study we will be doing is Romans which will start in January 2017

Rain couldn’t stop us from having a blast on the summer retreat. A special thank you to the Dormers for hosting our high school students at their cottage. It was great getting out of the city to enjoy the outdoors.

A number of our senior high students faced stretching experiences this summer, including employment at summer camp and involvement in the mission trip to Nicaragua.

This fall marked the launch of the interactive Youth Alpha series, where difficult questions of purpose, faith, and Christianity are discussed.

If you are in high school, come join us on Thursdays from 7 – 9pm @ Richview.

As we look back at July, August and September, we celebrated a lot1.We witnessed together a baptism and a child dedication.2.We heard about and rejoiced over what God did through

Camp Dynamite.3.Our Missions Moments involved commissioning Micha Orth,

praying with the Nicaragua Team before they left and rejoicing with them when they returned, and hearing how God is using Vera Ivakina.

4. We prayed for students as part of the National Day of Prayer for Post-Secondary Students.

5. We heard about and thanked God for His leading and provision of Jonny Dotson as our new Director of Youth.

We worshipped God together before celebrating what He is doing here at Richview and learning how we can be involved on Kickoff Sunday.

The sermon series for July and August was entitled, “Tell Me A Story”, and was a look at the parables, which are the life transforming stories that Jesus told. We also put an emphasis on teaching our children how to engage in corporate worship.

In September, we started the sermon series entitled, “Chasing the Wind”, where we are examining what God’s word says about the abundant and fulfilled life that God wants for us, and how we can simplify and get rid of such words as overwhelmed and over-scheduled from our vocabulary.

Besides Pastor Joe, God also used Jonathan Clarke, Rick Lynd, Dave Cook and Jesse Sudirgo to teach and lead us.

We said goodbye to Simon Bischoff, our Worship Intern for the last year. We greatly appreciated Simon’s contributions to our team. Simon brought a thoughtful, different perspective to meetings and also worked in a variety of roles on the planning, music and a/v teams. Please pray for Simon as he continues to seek God and to serve Him.

The Music Team moved to a team-based structure, which will allow us to get to know each other better, enabling us to more effectively lead in worship while maintaining a consistent sound from week to week. The A/V team is hard at work upgrading the auditorium

main speakers.

The Worship Team has also spent time praying and preparing for our Advent season. Please join us in praying that God will use these weeks to introduce people to Jesus

Continue to look for someone who would take a supervisor role over the kitchen, and perhaps give oversight to special events requiring food & beverages.

Bonnie Maginn, Doreen Dennis and several ladies from the residence have done a sensational job of reception, following up phone calls, mail, and receiving guests. Office is often a beehive throughout the week.

The ladies continue to make progress on digitizing the archives (old records and photos).

We have earmarked one of the offices for counselling and administration.

Kickoff Sunday made a transition to the parking lot with dunk tank, inflatables, BBQ and ministry centers. It brought a bit of a different vibe to the whole Sunday, and with beautiful weather it was a great day.

We continue to assist several people and families throughout the week who are living in shelters and dire circumstances with as much shepherding, and resources as we can muster.

Been several people in-and-out of the hospital and a few dealing with cancer and painful conditions. We do our best to meet regularly with those who find it difficult to attend.

Staff continues to meet weekly on Monday’s for spiritual formation, meetings, discussion and planning.

T.Dot’s continues to meet on monthly on Sunday Evenings. These monthly meetings will involve leadership & discipleship training interaction, practical assignments, dynamic videos, readings, and follow the Socratic method of conversation.

Creative design team has not met for a few months as a group, but continues working behind the scenes creating props, providing videos, making music suggestions, and working hard to make Sunday mornings memorable
