Something Different!

- Try the ‘Sticks Maths Investigation’.- Try the ‘Join the Dots’ Investigation.- Investigate what happens when you try different things with consecutive numbers.

All of these can be found on the Year 5 page of the School website.

Writing

- We would like you to look at the wonderful world of wizards. Re-read the text ‘Welcome to the School of Wizardry’ and highlight or underline the powerful, persuasive adjectives used to describe the school e.g. exceptional, stunning, unrivalled.

- Complete the ‘Which Synonym?’ activity to give you some ideas for interesting words to use in your own writing.

- We would like you to design and advertise your very own wizard school! Use the planning sheet to help you organise your ideas into paragraphs and think about persuasive language that will ‘sell’ your school. Write up your advert in your best cursive handwriting and decorate with drawings of your school and its facilities.

Week 2

- Read the poem below and then have a go at writing your own. There is a planning sheet saved on the website which you could use to formulate your ideas and to help you follow the pattern of this one:

Some Tips

Try to make your items in your poem sound exciting by using alliteration e.g. fastest fairy, slowest slug.

Use precise, powerful verbs that show things in a more exciting way e.g. tumbling, bursting. Choose unusual things to add to your potion. Be as inventive as you can e.g. a clock made of

cobwebs, shows made of rain. Use a measure of something e.g. a touch of, a pinch of, a handful of, a spoonful of…

You could write up your potion and illustrate – we would love to see these on Twitter!

Spelling

We have uploaded another spelling crossword challenge for you to have a go at. Use the clues given to complete the crossword then check your answers and that you have spelt them correctly afterwards – no peeking! Crossword challenge 2 is all ‘Tricky word endings’ - Good luck!

When you have checked your spellings are correct in the crossword, we would like you to practise writing these out in your neatest, cursive handwriting in your home learning book. You could also try writing some of the words in different colours, bold letters, capitals or bubble writing to help you remember them!

Science

Life Cycles

Week 1 - Animal Classification

Revise your learning from Year 4 of animal groupings by watching the video clips on the following BBC website https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zn22pv4/articles/z3nbcwx and complete the activity and quiz.

Week 2 – Animal Lifecycles

- Read through the information about different animal lifecycles on the PowerPoint which can be found on the school website.

- Choose an animal and find out about their lifecycle using the internet. (You could use one from the PowerPoint or research an animal of your choice). Present your work in a format of your choice. You could draw a labelled diagram, produce your own PowerPoint or create an information poster. Make sure your include correct scientific terminology e.g. gestation period and as much detail as you can.

Dinosaurs!

This week is BBC Bitesize Science Week and on 30th June Sir David Attenborough will be teaching primary children about dinosaurs and fossils. So make sure you check out the Bitesize Daily Primary lessons on 30th June!

Topic

As we have finished our History Topic on the Maya, we would like to see your research, word processing and presenting skills come to life!

Over the next two weeks, we would like you to research your very own topic of choice! It could be on absolutely anything - from Rosa Parks, to penguins, The Great British Bake off to Disney World!

Create a PowerPoint presentation, information booklet or poster about your topic with as much information as possible. You may wish to combine pictures from the internet and books with your own

drawings and artwork to make your work stand out!

Examples:

French

Over the next two weeks have a go at learning the French words for members of your family.

Use the link: https://www.french-games.net/frenchlessons?topic=Family%20-%20members&level=primary and begin with the FULL TUTORIAL rather than skipping straight to the Games.

- Start with the introduction, going through the vocabulary for the 10 different. Practise saying them aloud, then write the French words in your books and their English meanings.

After learn saying simple sentences about your family e.g. ‘I have one sister’ etc. by using the link: https://www.french-games.net/frenchlessons?topic=Family%20-%20my%20siblings&level=primary

Art

Week 1

Zentangles A zentangle is a simple and fun way of creating beautiful images using patterns and shapes. In its original form, it involves creating tiles of pattern and arranging these like a mosaic, but there are variations such as the use of a single flowing line in a larger tile to create shapes to add pattern to, or creating pictures too. The original zentangle is unplanned and abstract, so you don’t have to worry about the end result and can focus on each stroke.

There are lots of ideas on the internet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8PpYI3cPbE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=58CHvTE6w54

Now try out your own creations! You could print off the squares template, which is on the school website, to practise some patterns.

Week 2

This portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer is one of Gustav Klimt’s most famous pieces of work. It was painted in what art historians call his ‘gold period’. The art he created during this period had a very distinctive style, featuring rich, detailed, colourful patterns and gold and silver leaf.

Using the Zentangle patterns you practised last week, have a go at creating your own version of Klimt’s portrait above. Here is an example:

You could use a photo of yourself, a picture of a person from a magazine or use the pictures of Adele Bloch-Bauer (which can be found on the school website) and create the background of patterns behind and around the figure.

Remember to tweet us a photo of your completed piece!
