CHRISTMAS  SPECIAL  3. POLAROID CUBE, $149

Polaroid is known for their cool retro instant cameras. Go Pro’s are known for their adrenaline junkie action cam. However rivalling the Go Pro, Polaroid have brought out a new lifestyle action camera called the Cube. The makers of the camera say they’re not directly rivalling though, as they’re targeting a different market – the more casual market. Dubbed the ‘cute’ Cube it’s the size of 50c coin – to fit in your pocket, bag and even a purse. It’s weatherproof, shockproof and easy to balance between two fingers, or snap it onto something metallic using the magnet at the bottom. It takes high-quality video at 720p or 1080p resolution with a wide angle lens that’s slightly recessed into the cube for protection. To switch back and forth, you unscrew a little door in the back; that’s also where you insert your SD card. It has a 6MP camera, 124° wide angle lens, and built in battery that records up to 90 minutes. To start recording all you need to do is hold the top botton to turn it on, press the top button once to take a photo and twice to start recording (red light will flash/beep). Then press it once to stop recording. To view your photos and footage, you plug the camera into your computer via a small USB. It’s exceedingly simple to use. Or at least simple enough that if you hand it around at a party, your friends would quickly gather how it works. Which is the entire point. The Cube is available in three colours – red, blue and black – with the classic Polaroid stripe. There are also lots of accessories to go with the Cube including a bumper case, helmet stand, waterproof case, bike mount. Stockist: www.polaroid.com.au
