Chrombook Classroom
Mrs. Kee’s class is one of three at CES that has its own Chromebook cart to use daily in
the classroom. The students have participated in blended learning during reading groups
which gives them time with the teacher, opportunities to type and share journal entries in
Google Docs, record their oral reading using an app and to complete phonics activities
both on the Chromebook and in their notebooks. This style of learning allows each stu-
dent to learn at his/her pace and at their present levels. They are completing assignments
and viewing posted videos on Google Classroom to show their learning as well. The
students are beginning to collaborate with fourth graders in Highland as they blog about
Fish in a Tree by Lynda Mullaly Hunt through the Global Read Aloud. The use of tech-
nology in the classroom has provided many opportunities to learn and show progress
using 21st century skills.

Tips From Mrs. Weigel
If you're looking for a fun way to help your children learn their math facts, try: http://resources.oswego.org/games/. Scroll to the bottom of the list and you'll find “Sum Sense Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division”. It’s perfect for all grade levels!
A Message From Our Nurse
As the cold and flu season is upon us, please be advised that it is best for stu-dents who are ill to stay at home until they are feeling better. If the child pre-
sents a fever, he/she must be kept at home until they are fever free for 24
hours without the use of fever reducing medication. Also a child who is throw-
ing up should be kept home for 24 hours after the last occurrence.

State Reading Tests
Coming Soon
The third grade classes
will be taking their first
state test on December 1
and 2. The test will be a
Reading/Language Arts
test only. Attendance on
these two days
will be very im-
portant.
From Mrs. Klevay in the Art
Department
We are looking for donations
of rolls of gift wrap paper (for
any season) for use in our
popular recycled chair project
for 5th grade. Last year’s
chairs were a huge success
and we hope to continue the
project again this year. If you
can donate a roll or two that
would be great! Lots of pat-
tern in the paper looks awe-
some!!

Red Ribbon Week
at CES
Red Ribbon Week is an
alcohol, tobacco, and other
drug prevention awareness
campaign observed annual-
ly in October in the United
States. At CES, CESA mem-
bers talk with students dur-
ing their lunch periods and
ask them to sign the drug-
free pledge. Every student
at CES had the opportunity
to sign the pledge. There
were over 1,000 signa-
tures! To wrap up the
week, CESA members be-
gan shooting a video to fur-
ther explain the importance
of taking the pledge, and to
explain what the word
“drug” means. It might be
an opportune time to talk
with your child about the
dangers of drug, alcohol,
and tobacco use.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
