What is the STaR chart?

STaR is an acronym for

School Technology and Readiness.The STaR chart was designed to help teachers,

campuses, and districts determine their progress toward meeting the goals in the Texas

Long Range Technology plan.

What is the Texas Long Range Technology Plan?

*Our state has developed a plan to ensure that Texas schools move toward improving technology use for educators and students.

*The plan was originally adopted in 1988 and was updated in 1996, 2002 and most recently in 2006.

*The new revised plan is called Vision 2020 as it is spans from 2006 to the year 2020. You can view the plan at the link below.

The summary is divided into 4 key areas:• Teaching and Learning• Educator Preparation and Development• Leadership, Administration and Instructional

Areas to improve

• As you saw in the chart we haven’t made consistent gains each year in any area.

• We need to target our weakest area and develop a plan to make improvements (educational prep & development).

• We need to target our strengths and continually build upon them to avoid regression in this area (leadership, admin and instruct support).

Setting Campus Goals

• Make technology a priority in each committee meeting when developing goals.

• Plan for professional training to improve in educator preparation and development.

• Continue to develop plans for strong leadership, administration and instructional support.

Remember…

• The STaR chart helps us identify our strengths and weaknesses in technology. Our goal is consistent improvement from year to year.

• The STaR is a guide to help us meet the goals in our district and the state’s long term plan for technology.

• Being familiar with the long term plan and STaR summary will help me set goals for myself and my students in the classroom.
