QUOTE OF THE WEEK
“There is some argument over the origin of civilization - but this is unimportant compared with the question of when
it will resume operation.”
A Very Special Thank You Last weekend’s Annual Auction was a fun-filled evening
of fellowship and excitement. Thank you so much to
all volunteers, attendees, and donors for your support
of this important event. Funds raised from annual
auctions have supported St. Mary’s projects and
initiatives and prevented the need for capital
campaigns within our parish.
Alan Strickler, auctioneer, and Dave Roederer, master
of ceremonies, have been the voices of our Annual
Auction for the past ten years. A special thank you to
these two gentlemen for continuing to make every
auction night a special St. Mary’s experience.
If you are interested in getting involved with the
planning and preparation for the 2020 auction,
please contact Mary Ann Van Dyke at 669-8022.

each decade of the rosary. Someone else will
lead the actual Rosary. If you would be willing
to participate in this Veteran's Day observance,
please call Mary Eikenberry at 515-238-5225 or

KNOWING & GROWING OUR FAITH
What are the different levels of Holy Orders?
In the Sacrament of Holy Orders, there are three degrees or “orders”: bishop, priest, and deacon. The rite of ordination is the sacramental act that makes this possible. Ordination “confers a gift of the Holy Spirit that permits the exercise of a ‘sacred power’ . . . which can come only from Christ through the Church” (CCC, no. 1538). Only the ordained bishop has the fullness of the sacrament to ordain others and preside over a local area with apostolic authority. Along with bishops, priests can preside over liturgy and administer all other sacraments besides Holy Orders. Deacons have a partial share in the power of Holy Orders to help and serve bishops by serving the Church. They can baptize and witness the Sacrament of Marriage. The Sacrament of Holy Orders does not preserve the ordained from weakness and sin, but the Holy Spirit guarantees that the minister’s sin does not impede the effectiveness of the Sacrament and its graces.
Next week: Holy Orders, where is that in the Bible?
Music Director Needed
Holy Trinity in Des Moines is looking for a part-time paid position for the Schola Music Director, to direct the
choir for our 10:30 Mass and holidays. This person must have these qualifications: education in music, knowledge
of liturgical music, experience in teaching music (with teaching adults a big plus), proficient in piano (and other instruments also). If interested, contact Andy Negrete
in the Holy Trinity Parish Office 255-3162, ext.129.

getting to heaven or something more? Come discover
the unique ways that God has gifted you to have a
transforming presence among your neighbors - ways
that aren’t as “churchy” as you might think! The truth
is that the way we live our lives matters in God’s plan
for the world – others are waiting to experience God’s
love & provision through you! Join Deb Richards for
this workshop in the Fireplace Room. Lunch & partici-
pant materials provided. Suggested donation: $25.
