A "first" in the l-iochester area was the Geneseo Square and Round F'estival, held a .. SJC, Geneseo, l~.Y., Nov.15th. For a first venture in the field of festivals, it was not a bad beginning. The t;.,.lent Wa[', grea t--,U. Brundage, hike Callahan, and ::..eVe:rne and rori.s Reilly. The facilities and acoustics were excellent, although some complained about the composition floor ir1 the big(BIG) gym. A _lot of people complained about the ea ting accomodations, but . a.fter the hunger pains were finally rl'.!1ieved, most peopl · c,.,,tld understand how a mix-up like t.bis could occur first time ..round, And, Dr.Merritt did render a very charming apology. Those seekin5 a ve,~:,, high level of dancing were probably disapnointed, but a very good indication of the success of this affair was the all-over good-time feeling that seemed to prevail desp:.te it's shortcomings ••••• and the number of square and rou:id dancers that were there;n the floor, to the end, danc:i.ng up a s tormt And, the word i.s they are going to do it again next year, bigger and better. It's going to be a little earlier in the Fall(Imagine the color down there, thenl) with better f1oors(wood--but not prettier than that beautiful blue an yellow gym floor!) and private dining a.ccomodations, if the turn-out is large ,.mough, It just might be something to look forward toZ

Recently, in a square dance publication from another area, the question was asked, what W:12 the Federat:ic,n DO to "earn it's keep?" We can't answer for that other Federation, but we can give you a brief run-down on what YOUR Federation is doing. For starters, it publishes this paper, "The Promenader", one of three such publications in New York State: and it is constantly pursuing means to promote and advertise Western Square and Round Dancing ••• the display in the R.G.& E. window, demonrtrations e1.t the fair, on T.V., ::'or instance. Currently, it is working on the problem of better insurance coverage for Square Dance Clubs, on keeping abreast of the developements in Albany concerning the possibility of taxing square dancing. It is ,i,1so trying to estabJish a kind of "clearing house"list of Nationa.l Callers coming into the Rochester areR in order to avoid b5g dance conflicts on the same date. Your Federation can, and ha5, acted as arbitrator in complaints made by member clubs. And,of course, it's working, working, wor:dng on DOR. These are just a few 0f the tasks ycur Federation tackles.

NOW, we would Like to draw your att~ntion to the opposite page. I'hese are YOLIR FEDERATION R"c;l'R.l<..:Sl:!~T ATIVES. And, like the links in-~hain, the re'Presentatives determine the strength of the Federation. They are really V.I.P S, if n0t ~;!:ill_ most important people in the Square Da~:;-~ · picture. llill you get to know them, support them'?':'? To/2"ether we can all work for more and better da.ncingf !!

Yours for a "Fun" year, John and Daphne Fink

CLUB Bafavia Twitlers •-Bell~ : '::au~

Our annual Halloween party was a success. I understanct Our Halloween Dance was well attended with about 75 Twirlers and guest couples. The dance culminated a "myste ride" by Reilly WhirV,.ways of Hamburg. Attending with Reilly Whirlaways were Boots 'N Slippers, Merry Mixers and ~.K.C.-0 Squares, all of Rochester.

October 24th a group of our dancers traveled to Klem Road in Webster to retrieve their banner from the Web Spinner Club. Larry Dunn was the caller.

On October 31st we were guests of E.K.C.-0 Squares where Ken Anderson, National Caller did the calling.

Members of the Batavi;,, group were guests of Which Way Whirlers of Pavilion No17.5th. There were twelve couples

the cider flowed like wine. Nancy and Larry Root won first prize for the prettiest costumes and Betty and Charlie Podgers for the funniest.

Speaking of parties, don't forget to save the date of December 12th. This is the date of our Christmas party at the Three Acre Party House. Be sure to purchase your tickets early.

The nominating committee, Katie and Frank Hiendl, Doris and D~n Wilbur and Ann and Joey Ransco, are hard at work finding candidates for new officers. We already have a newly created office filled. Frank Meyer is our new security officer. Congratulations, Frank.

Ali in attendance wish to thank our CR.pable bus driver, Dick Toal, for getting us safely home. Dick is as good ,1n the road driving as he is on the dance floor. With the Holiday Season fast approaching, we w111 take a quick look back and review some of our past activities.

On October 25th, our Club had Frank Lane as a guest caller. That evening brought square dancers in from several clubs. 11 couples from the Wayne Westerners came in on their Mystery Ride and 79 couples from other 8lubs came to dance with us. We enjoyed having all of you drop in on us. And how about the pumpkin pie that was served after the dance.

Our Mystery Ride on November 1st brought out 37 couples •• fie left the school parking lot promptly at 6sJO P.M. on two Greyhound buses, the majority of us not knowing where we were going andreally didn't care as we were all going to a Square Dance. We had a Song Fest on our bus, led by Ken & Kay Georger. Don~t know what went on in Bus #2. After travelling 65 miles, we arrived at our destination, Dan Dedo's Grand Squares in Newfane, New York. we were greeted at the door by two sailors. Several pf the members of the Grand Squares were dressed in costume, and the hall was all decorated for Halloween. How many of you danced with the Pussy Cat and the young man in the diaper? We all thank Dan Dedo· and the Grand Squares for an enjoyable evening. Thanks also to our Presidents, Joe & Vicki Fornarola, for making arrangements with Dan Dedo for this wonderful evening of dancing. We also appreciate the efforts of Chuck and Sue Durling in obtaining the buses.

Then on November 7th, Curl~y Custer called for our Club. One of your writer went Turkey hunting(you can guess which one), so we missed this one.

As we are writing this, great plans are being made for our Bicentennial Cotillion on November 22nd. More about this later.

Speaking of Holidays, our Christmas Party on December 20 is an event we are all looking forward to. The new Class will be dancing with the Club and it should be lots of fun.

Then to end up the year, on December 31st, our New Years' Eve dance will be held at St. Helen's Hall again this year. This is a nice way to see the Old Year out and the New Year in. Space is limited so make reservations early. Members must sign up by December 13th.

A Joyous and Happy Holiday Season to all. ~ IO. Bill & Elaine Koch

Web Spinnets As we sit here groaning over the thought of another turke andwich, we are pondering some of the things for which

l'fe give thanks. For the past pleasures of our Halloween party, we must express our gratitude to the planners and to the wildly costumed club members. Winners of the disguise contest were Roodenburgs, Ferreras, Richards, Chambers, Coopers, Bodensteiners, and Scheidts. We are most thankful that we are no longer obligated to look at Nelson Coco's outfit, which received Dishonorable Mention.

Our future is filled with a whole group of tremendous guest callerss Ron Cole on December5th, Bruce Shaw on December 12th, and Jerry Bradt on January 16th.

Web Spinners remember to make reservations for the New Year's Eve Party. Chairmen, Jack and Betty Ferrara, are promising a great evening of celebration to launch us into a new year of dancing!

Our January schedule includes the Web Spinners• Style

Thanks to Russ and Liz Pollock for the job in reporting on the publicity for the club. We are glad to hear they will come to Pavilion from Rochester to dance with us when they can.

Many couples from Batavia Twirlers and CaJ.-i-co Squares enjoyed their dance as our guests Nov.5th. Our own Jerry was sick so we had the pleasure of dancing to Bruce Shaw and Bernie cueing rounds. Thanks Bruce for filling in so capably at the last possible moment.

we will be seeing Bruce again along with Mike Callahan & Bernie at our special Nov. 22.

_Our regular dances will be held on Dec.3rd & Dec.17th (Christmas Party) with Jerry Bradt calling & Bernie Hayward cueing.
