The celebration for the 44th anniversary of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish was a wonderful evening shared with heritage food and the gift of one other. I was deeply touched by being recognized for my 62 years of ordination which was on June 30th and for the 25 years as priest in residence at the parish. As always, I thank God and all of you for your love and continued prayers. I’m sure it is your prayers that have helped me each and every day. Know all of you are in my heart and daily prayers. Love Father Walter Werbicki NCCS IS LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS NCCS needs and welcomes volunteers. Dunkirk, New York September 21/22nd, 2019 First Faith Formation Class Today Children attending area public schools should be registered and attending Faith Formation Classes beginning today, September 22nd at 9:15 a.m. If your child is not yet registered, please arrive a few minutes before class to take care of that. Parents should also note that on each first Sunday of the month, instead of the early Sunday morning class, we have scheduled a special family session beginning at noon. This special family session will include a simple meal. Our intention is that each family unit, including parents, grandparents, older siblings or other important members, will engage with the child in a learning activity that can be later carried on in the home. Religious Formation, with no observance at home is doomed to failure. If faith is lived and discussed in the family setting, then chances are good that the child will practice when she or he gets older.

Appreciation Dinner If you will attend the Knights of Columbus Dinner recognizing our area priests, get your tickets soon. They are available at St. Anthony Rectory 679-4050, Holy Trinity Rectory 366-2306 or through Lou Sinare at 673-1068 or 532-4806. The dinner will be held on Sunday, October 13th at St. Anthony Hall in Fredonia. This is a project co-sponsored by the Dunkirk, Fredonia, Gowanda and Silver Creek Knights. Appetizers and beverages will be served at 4 p.m. with buffet style dinner at 5 p.m. including a salad, baked chicken, roast beef, potatoes, vegetables and dessert. Tickets are $20 per person including a free bar.

To Whom will You Listen? We make many choices in life. The most important choice we must make is whether we will follow God’s voice or one of the many other misleading ones. We cannot choose both! Which will you choose? If God is calling you to a Church vocation, call Fr Andrew Lauricella at 847-5535 or check out the “Priest of the Month” Story at www.buffalovocations.org

Catholics and Cremation Although cremation is permitted, Catholic teaching stresses a preference for burial of the body of the deceased in imitation of the burial of the Lord Jesus. When cremation is chosen for good reasons, normally the complete Christian Funeral should still be celebrated including the wake, the funeral liturgy and the rite of committal. These serve as a sign of the sacredness of human life, the dignity of the individual person and our belief in the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. The Church clearly prefers that the body be present during the wake and funeral mass, and if necessary, cremation would take place following the Rite of Commendation. Finally, Cremated remains should never be scattered, divided or kept at home for an extended period of time.
