St. Francis: Patron Saint of Animals

On the liturgical calendar October 4th is the Feast of St. Francis, the day the Church honors a great friar from Assisi, Italy. He is the patron saint of the environment and animals because he loved all creatures and allegedly preached to even the birds. In recent years, congregations have started to bless pets and other animals as a way to mark this day and honor his spirit. St. Francis was also among his country’s rich and powerful. ———————————— Secular Franciscan: Who Are They?

The Secular Franciscan Order gives life and form to the efforts of its members as they apply the distinctive Gospel spirit of St. Francis of Assisi.

Through the Franciscan way of life, we are joined with Jesus and joyfully walk with Him in peace and strength on the path of salvation.

The Order of Secular Franciscans is a Way of Life, approved by the Church, for men and women, married or single, who are called to take an active part in the mission of Christ to bring “the good news of salvation” to the world.

Secular Franciscans commit themselves to a life in Christ calling for a positive effort to promote Gospel attitudes among their contemporaries.

We are united with each other in Communities called Fraternities, that give us direction according to the Gospel spirit of St. Francis of Assisi.

We will be having Professions into the Secular Franciscan Order at St. Charles, Sunday, October 6th at the 5:00pm Mass.

St. Vincent de Paul This Weekend’s Special Collection

“Barbara,” who has young children, was recently diagnosed with stage three breast cancer and is currently going through chemotherapy. Although overwhelmed with worry, she is focused on getting her health back, strug-gling to stay positive despite the pain and discomfort that the treatment causes. Along with prayers and emotional support, the volunteers of St. Vincent de Paul are able to regularly bring her family food because of your kind donations.

County and city public services depend on non-profit or-ganizations such as St. Vincent de Paul to supplement the needs of our neighbors. At St. Vincent de Paul, we depend on year-round monetary donations in order to continue our work with those in need in San Carlos. Tax-deductible monetary support can be donated in many ways, such as contributing in the second collection this weekend. You can also contribute anytime by using the donation boxes located at the entrances to the church, leaving monetary donations at the parish office, or con-tributing online via the St. Vincent de Paul page on our parish website.

If you know of anyone who may need assistance, help can be reached at 650-343-4403. Thank you for your gen-erous support.

As Luke 6:38 states, “Give, and it will be given to you.”

Engage your children and interact about how Mass nurtures our spirits and our lives!

Please have your child pick up a Step by Step (4-7 year old's) or Footprints in Faith (7-12 year old's) Gospel ac-tivity sheet (and a pencil) on the way into Mass. They can solve puzzles, complete searches, and connect to the Gospel message - all in the pew!

Also please pick up a "Mass" Transit Card for your fami-ly. One side summarizes the readings, provides a pray-er and asks a question -- which you can read on your way to Mass (in "Transit"). As a family, you can answer the questions on the back and connect your faith to your everyday lives (on your way home). These resources are available at all Masses in the vestibule closest to the Rectory and in the grand entrance close to the Holy Water font.

Preschool Pray and Play

All families with preschoolers are invited to be a part of Preschool Pray and Play. We gather during the 8:30am Mass on Sundays to share Bible stories, and then we pray and play! If you interested please contact Alison at [email protected] for the participation guide-lines and dates.
