The journalism class at Hobart High School has revamped the student newspaper. Students began the class by creating an

online newspaper for delivering the news of the school. This online newspaper can be found at brickienews.com. Students

also changed the name of the student newspaper to “Brickie 411”. The online newspaper includes feature stories, sports,

clubs, spotlight, opinion, advice, and entertainment. Students have been covering a plethora of events the first nine weeks

including; football games, school events, community events, and interviews with students and new staff members. Miss

Denton applied & received a grant from the Hobart Education Foundationfor the journalism program that will help pay for

two iPads. These iPads will be used for mobile reporting, interviewing, video podcasts, and photography. The efforts and

ownership the students have taken in the journalism program have been fantastic. HHS can look forward to improvements

in the student newspaper as the year progresses.

The Buddy Walk is designed to help

    celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness

Month in October and to promote inclusion. The Down Syndrome Association of

Northwest Indiana hosted a walk at the Lake County Fair grounds on October 6th to

raise money for the NDSS. Over the last couple of years, the Buddy Walk foundation

hosted walks across the country and brought in almost 12 million dollars to benefit all

individuals with Down Syndrome. The Psychology Club helped set up the event, took

part in blowing up thousands of balloons for the “yellow and blue" balloon release as

well as setting up tables, registration and food service stations.
