As a Young Child, I Dreamed of Being in the Limelight...

When I was fourteen years old, I founded The Friends of Broadway, a charitable children’s touring group that performed for local venues such as hospitals, nursing homes, and malls. Through this experi-ence, I discovered my true passion and purpose: teaching perform-ing arts to children. For the next eight years, I continued my work with The Friends of Broadway as director and choreographer, rais-ing money for charities like the Jimmy Fund and the Make-A-Wish Foundation while giving local children an opportunity to perform and give back to the community. Each season of The Friends of Broadway inspired new ideas. Metrowest Family Theater was founded in 2000 and has produced fully staged musicals enjoyed by thousands of local theater-goers. Hundreds of seasoned and novice actors from all walks of life have had the opportunity to perform on stage with Metrowest Family Theater, building memories and creating lasting friendships. What is now The Performing Arts Connection followed in 2005 and weaves together my passion for quality performing arts training and nur-turing, professional faculty. The Performing Arts Connection is a cheerful studio where we welcome diversity of all kinds. The faculty is, in short, awesome. We love what we do and we strive for excellence in performing arts education. The Performing Arts Connection is a happy place where

kids and adults can be challenged, supported, and inspired every day. We’ve come a long way since that first season of “FOB” yet my mission to teach and inspire young performers and find unique ways to give back to the community is unwavering. Here’s to another 15 years! Warmly,Samantha BowerProducer

Did You Know...The Sudbury Celebrates 375th logo was designed by Sudbury native and Lin-coln-Sudbury Regional High School grad-uate (2008) David Alderman. He is a now a graphic designer in Boston (davidalderman.weebly.com/art.html).The logo is based on the granite road markers found throughout the town and region. Alderman described his design as a “light-hearted tribute to a town steeped in history. The stone marker

represents our past literally by being the original way finding system of Sudbury,” he said. “As the stones still stand next to our current road signs and direct us to our next destination, it ties the past together with the present and future.” Sudbury Celebrates 375: An Anniversary Coloring Book, was illustrated by Sudbury native and Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School graduate (2006), Robin DeSantis. Robin has created sixteen lovely drawings to help you to discover some people and places in Sud-bury’s colorful history. Robin worked on this project while serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Dominican Re-public (2010-2014), where she worked with at-risk youths and families.

‘Take care of all your memories…For you cannot relive them.” ~ Bob Dylan

It was just over a decade ago when Susan and I had the pleasure of meeting and decided to join forces in our effort to provide Sud-bury’s Nixon Elementary School with both a yearbook and an end of the year slideshow. Our shared and individual interest in photog-raphy and our finding creative ways to share a story with pictures dates way back. For me, I’ve forever loved a good story told with photographs put to music. When I was a young girl, I would record stories and then ask my family to sit and watch as I leafed through the Polaroid photos, music playing in the background as I read. From Susan’s early days as high school yearbook editor, through her years as a children’s book editor, to becoming her family’s appointed documentarian, she has always been passionately involved in find-ing ways to tell stories with pictures. It’s no surprise, for those who know us best, that we have spent most of our adult lives sharing compelling stories through the creation of memorable photo books or albums and heartfelt slideshows. Over the past few years I have continued to work on creat-ing slideshows for a variety of events including weddings, end of season LS sports teams, milestone birthdays, graduations, fami-ly reunions and funerals. In 2012, with the sudden passing of my husband’s brother, my connection to EverPresent was established through family and friends who saw the memorial slideshow I pre-sented at a family gathering. It was then that I met Chris, one of

three co-founders of EverPresent, a local start-up. After he explained to me their business concept as a mem-ories preservation company through photo, slide, video and film digital conversion and the role I could play, I quickly jumped on board and began what has been an extremely rewarding and fulfilling journey as EverPresent’s first local Memories Consultant. Last August, as EverPresent con-tinued to grow, there became a great need to build on our photo book offerings. At the same time, Susan was looking for something new to marry her gifts as a design-er and editor. I was thrilled at the idea of Susan and me working in collaboration again! She joined EverPresent last summer and has brought tremendous energy, endless talent and professionalism to the team. Susan has single-handedly expanded our photo book and album offerings at every price point to include a large variety of de-sign choices. Clients wholeheartedly love the work Susan has done to create albums and books that elicit the spirit of the occasion being documented and leave them with a unique keepsake that they can share and enjoy with their family for generations to come. Susan and I understand there is a massive need and desire for families to care for and protect their memories. EverPresent digital-ly preserves all media types, including: VHS tapes, 8mm cassettes, MiniDV, 8mm/Super8/16mm reels, photos, slides, negatives, art-work, newspaper clippings and oversized items such as scrapbooks and paintings. We go to the next level on folder structuring, caption transcription and facial recognition. The aspect that really appeals to me about EverPresent is when families work with us, they entrust their treasured media and place them into the hands of a profession-al consultant rather than shipping it, sight unseen, to an unknown online service. Clients love the fact that all the work at EverPresent is done locally at either their main office located in Newton or satel-lite production facility in Watertown. Clients love that our service is customized to meet their needs and not a one-size fits all approach. Our respective skills enable Susan and I to encourage clients to cel-ebrate family, remember the fun times in your life and take pride in your accomplishments, no matter how big or small. Once memories are secured and safe, Susan and I work directly with families to find the best ways to display and enjoy their memo-ries through custom photo books, slideshows and searchable family photo archives. This past May, we collaborated on a memorial pho-to book which chronicled the life of an accomplished and spirited woman. We scanned more than 200 photos, documents, newspa-per articles, and memorabilia and included some of the woman's own amateur digital photographs to create an everlasting keepsake. More recently, EverPresent developed program as a way to jump-start clients. I’ve helped create a dynamic, half day in-home strat-egy session where we provide clients with a detailed inventory of their old items, a written project budget and timeline for getting things done with a dedicated consultant to oversee your project

and guide the family on this im-portant journey. In addition, we’ve expanded our services to include organizing ever-grow-ing digital photo libraries that, for most families, are stored on numerous devices. Susan and my certifications as personal photo organizers, through the National Association of Photo Organizers (APPO), secures our role as ex-perts in best practices of photo

organizing and enables us to provide many ideas and suggestions for working with all types of clients, products and projects. Our bottom line is to identify the stories a client wants to share and then work to make that happen. We believe that celebrating memories and telling our stories makes a difference - a difference in our own lives as well as the lives of our friends and family. We are excited about our course offering this fall through the LS Adult Education program that will help educate the public about how to assess, organize, prioritize, budget and plan to begin the process of securing their most cherished posses-sions - family memories. Whether you choose EverPresent to do the work, you do it yourself, or something in between; our team at EverPresent just wants to make sure your digitizing invest-ment gives you the most enjoyment possible. we will be sponsoring a booth for EverPre-sent at the upcoming sudbury Celebrates 375 september 6th Ls Fireworks event. As Sudbury celebrates its 375th birthday, we are reminded of the importance of memories, recognizing the past and preserving it for future generations. The services EverPresent provides fits hand in glove with a momentous occasion like this one. We hope families will come visit us and learn more about what we have to offer and learn how Susan and I can help! The work I do at EverPresent has opened my eyes to the idea that we invest so much insuring our material possessions, but forget to protect the irreplaceable photos and videos that remind us of our history. Our mission is that your best memo-ries become EverPresent in your life and are eas-ily shared with the people you love.

Best, Jane

I have been singing for as long as I can re-member. There are few things in life that bring me such pure, simple joy. I studied piano from a very young age and sang in choirs, school choruses, musicals, rock bands, a cappel-la and vocal jazz groups, and performed my own compositions in coffee houses and talent competitions. I began my formal voice train-ing at the age of 14 with the late Carlo Lifavi Menotti of New York City. I earned a four year scholarship to Syracuse University’s Col-lege of Visual and Performing Arts where I studied voice, piano, composition and music business at the Setnor School of Music and completed my Bachelor of Music degree. Like a fingerprint, each of our voices is unique. It is my goal to help singers achieve a free and natural vocal production from the bottom of the range to the top without any breaks or sudden changes in quality. Training in this technique gives the singer access to all dynamics, with tonal clarity and flexibility. Also, it helps improve a singer’s range, endurance, stamina, breath control, resonance, vocal strength and vocal quality across all styles of music without fatigue or damage to the voice. I believe that learning to sing well is a lifelong pursuit. I am continually refin-ing my skills as a singer and as a teacher through consistent study. I am one of only

two certified instructors from the Institute for Vocal Advancement (IVA) in the state of Massachusetts completing numerous hours of continuing education, observation and testing annually to achieve and maintain this qual-ification. I am also a certified Level III in-structor in Somatic Voicework - The LoVetri Method and a member of the National Asso-ciation of Teachers of Singing (NATS). With my blend of formal music training, vocal skill, performance history and teaching experience, I believe I have all of the elements needed to be an effective vocal instructor. I started my vocal studio in 2008 with a handful of young students and the studio has grown steadily over the past six years. My students range in age from 9 to 75 and include avocational and professional singers, song-writers and performers of musical theater, pop, R&B, jazz, country, rock, and classical music. I love my students and the passion they have for music. Their milestones are my milestones and I’m delighted by their many

accomplishments. I am so incredibly grateful to be able to do what I do and to be part of their lives. I was recently asked to join The Cause, a New York City-based classic rock band, as their female lead vocalist. The band primarily plays for private parties and charity events. For information on my vocal studio, call me at 508.353.7382.

Photos by PaigeNearly a decade ago, I photographed a friend’s daughter in the town where I live. It was for her high school senior yearbook portrait. This photo changed my life as it was the catalyst for what evolved into a full-time photography and graphic business. I currently photograph a great number of high school seniors each year, along with families, pets, celebrations, events, slideshows, corporate and graphic design. My photography business would be nowhere without the continued guidance and expertise of my mentor. He is truly brilliant and I’ve been fortunate enough to have him here behind the scenes making sure my computers, cameras and lenses are all in good keeping. Connecting with my subjects and making them feel happy, confident, and comfortable is 90 percent of getting a great photo. With constant practice, discipline, and passion for capturing the moment, the rest completes the picture! Not only is the creative process exhilarating, but to show a high school senior a great experience is amazing. Being a part of a family milestone and helping them capture their son or daughter gives me enormous joy. I recognize how fortunate I am to have found a creative endeavor, and that it’s a happy job. Capturing life’s moments is truly special.

Expression through Art, Alexandra Higgins

I am a working artist and have many mediums in which I express myself. My background is in real estate and interior design, but, I am an artist in other various ways. I am an oil painter, a cement sculptor and singer/songwriter. In all of these mediums, I am able to connect with tactile senses and I form most of my ideas for my work, from things around me. I am constantly looking for inspiration. I love to look at things, see how they work and wonder how to create my art from seeing something new. I have basic themes throughout all my work. Included in these pages are some of my paintings, and sculp-tures. The theme behind most of this work, is women in the garden. The series of paintings called “roots” was about women who became part of the garden, their hands become the roots of the plant. The idea that we are not separate from our environment, but become what we make it, appeals to me on many different levels. I have had many exhibitions in the the local upstate area includ-ing Albany, Hudson and online. My artwork is in private collections

from Virginia to Texas. For more information on my art or music, you can email: [email protected]. I have always been interested in drawing and painting. I was orig-inally an Art History major in college but quickly switched to Fine

Art after my Bachelor’s degree. My oil paintings started as sketches and line drawings of faces and flowers and it was after that, I started to incor-porate the two together. I became more interest-ed in gardening, tending to the garden, garden themes and women in the garden. One day I was in the garden planting, and realized my hands had not only become filty but were chaffed and blistered. Blisters had formed on my fingers as well as my palms, raw from the work I had been doing. My hands became

part of the garden I was tending, and that idea sparked many themes in my work. My inspiration comes from watching things grow and tending to their growth. I love to form ideas for my paintings from magazines, my own photographs, gardening, drawings and things I see on a daily basis. I continue to have a sense of wonder in my work, because I am inspired by the living world and life around me. I try to keep the basic theme of my work about growth; both in plants and human beings in nature. In my collection of work, “root” series, the woman, or gardener, becomes engulfed with and in the plants. Her body becomes entwined in the plants and her hands be-come the “roots” of the plant. The more I work in this theme, the more I think the woman is not the real champion, it is nature who wins. She is simply the onlooker, waiting for the plants to eventually take over. Made of portland cement, sand, lime and found objects which in-clude recycled materials. Each sculptured piece is individually crafted and no two are the same. Some of these pieces hang on the side of a garage or house and some are placed (on rebar) in the ground. I have started in the photo section a series with the hanging pieces which have different themed plants in back for (spring, summer, fall and winter). They range in price from $35.00 to $450.00. The mirrored sunheads range in price depending on size. I aslo create pet head-stones which includes one cat headstone and the other a dog head-stone. They have the birth date, death date and special sentimental pieces carefully placed in the cement. Lastly are my birdbaths and free form pieces which revolve again on the theme of women in the gar-den. Any of these can be shipped in the continental US and range in price according to shipping location. For information, email me at: [email protected]

I have been so blessed that in my business I have been able to witness and be part of each dancers growth. On Your Toes of-fers classes for the youngest dancer, age 2 in the Mom-my and Me class through a multitude of classes for the graduating seniors. There is something

for everyone. We have classes for the recreational dancer, classes for the more serious ballet dancer, and a competitive Dance Company. All dancers are placed in their apprioate classes with consideration of lev-el and class chemistry. New students are offered a private lesson to ensure they are placed in the best class. We are looking forward to a wonderful 9th season in our new studio and will be working hard this summer on our studio expansion. The studio will be updated with 2 new dressing rooms, a private waiting area and expanded studio

Come by for a tour! 77Powdermill Road in Acton

A Note from Amanda Rose...I have been taking classes at On Your Toes since its founding, and while we have changed and grown over the years, the same love of dance and enthusiasm for young dancers remains at its core. Students of all ages can sign up for a plethora of classes, from ballet and pointe to lyrical and jazz. In addition, workshop classes are frequently offered at the studio, bringing in guest instructors and featuring varying styles of dance. All of the teachers are unique and bring some-thing special to the studio; with varying backgrounds and dance experiences, they bring their knowledge and love of dance to the studio each week. One of my favorite aspects of On Your Toes is the flexibility and encouragement of its staff members. I am a very active participant in the theater program at my high school, and for the past several years Miss Tricia and all of my instructors encouraged me to pursue my in-terests and supported me when I had scheduling con-flicts. I have truly loved working and growing up at On Your Toes and I am thankful for the wonderful and fun dance training I have received here!

A Note from the Director:

“I just want so much for the kids,” explains Margie Pierce, Direc-tor of Dancers Workshop. For the last six years as director she has shown her dedication and passion for the students and families of Dancers Workshop. The options dancers can choose from, includ-ing group classes, performance companies, and performance oppor-tunities grows with every year. It is an exciting studio, where every dancer feels apart of the Dancers Workshop family. “Margie Pierce has such a gift for turning the ordinary into the ex-traordinary. She really knows how to get the kids up and moving while building their self-confidence and camaraderie at the same time.”- Susan R, Girls Scout Leader and Dw mom. Dancers Workshop has been providing dance in-struction to the area for 25 years. With a reputation for high quality service, experi-enced and professional staff, and a home away from home for its students, it is the pre-mier dance studio in Sudbury. Family values prevail at Dancers Workshop, with teachers serving as role mod-els and inspiration to stu-dents to express themselves through movement no matter their age, experience, or abili-ty. “Dancing has done a lot for my confidence. It can be hard to get up on a stage and per-form,”- Tracy, 2012 Alumni. Dancers Workshop is proud to serve the local com-munity, being part of Sud-bury Family Network events, helping Brownie Troops earn dance badges, and teaching at Little Lamb Preschool. Spe-cial programs like Dancers with Downs Syndrome class-es, their resident adult dance company Hip Hop Mamas, and their annual Teachers and Dads dances in the recital are highlights to the extensive children’s program. “I loved my dance experi-ence growing up. It is my goal to give the same experience to

my students; to give them lifelong memories, friends, and mentors. Dancers Workshop to be a haven for each dancer to express themselves, be who they are, and dance for them-selves.”Margie Pierce, Director of Dancers Workshop
