DEW MissionDEW Mission

Our mission has two parts:

Provide unemployment insurance for people who have lost a job through no

fault of their own, and…

…put them back to work.

Page 33: S Aiken Hs Hot Jobs In Sc Jan 2011

DEW Services: UIDEW Services: UI

-- Unemployment Insurance is funded by employer taxes.

-- The employer pays a tax to ensure that employees will be protected in case of unexpected layoffs, and to help maintain a healthy level of economic activity.

-- Unemployment Insurance benefits are determined by a statutory formula based on the worker's earnings.

-- The current maximum weekly benefit amount is $326. The maximum number of state-funded weeks is 26. Federal extensions allow people to receive up to 73 more weeks for a maximum of 99 weeks.

Page 34: S Aiken Hs Hot Jobs In Sc Jan 2011

DEW Services: Job PlacementDEW Services: Job Placement

-- Unemployment Insurance claimants can find jobs either online or at any of our 36 Workforce Centers.

-- Services are available to anyone looking for a job; they have resource areas with free computer access to help in their job search.

-- Clients can use software to help write resumes or brush up on typing skills; look for employment, education, training, and labor market information through the Internet.

-- Employers have space for interviews, as well as fax and e-mail services. We can also schedule interviews, appointments, and provide testing. Employers can post job openings, either directly through our website or by contacting us to list openings.
