Dear Delegates,It is our privilege to host the 40th Annual Conference of IAMBS 2019, Chettinad University, Rajiv Gandhi Salai, OMR, Kelambakkam, Chennai, Tamil Nadu . The theme of the conference is “BIOMEDICAL RESEARCH AND INNOVATIONS TO ENHANCE QUALITY OF LIFE”. We have immense pleasure in extending a cordial invitation to all. Looking forward to welcoming you in Chettinad!Dr. Sanjay Andrew Rajaratnam, Organising Chairperson.

About ConferenceThe prime objective of this conference is to bring togather all the members and non-members of IABMS for exchange of knowledge and research experiance. this academic event will lead to fruitful interaction among the participants to frame new areas of research and innovation. When multiple brains work togeth-er on a single mission, best things churn out. We are condent that every delegate will cherish his / her experiences in this scientic feast which will be etched in their memories for years to come and focus their research towards betterment of health needs of our country and globe at large. This conference focus on the theme “Biomedical Research and Innovation to Enhance Quality of Life.” Subthemes: 1. Way towards Eective and Advanced Healthcare - Medical Research in the Genetic Era.The rapid advancement in epigenetics and gene sequencing has revealed a complex landscape of genomic alterations, which regulate the molecular pathways common and are involved in tumor pathogenesis, cell growth, and survival. However, the majority of these genetic alterations are still unclear. Experts in this area from laboratories of national importance will be delivering lectures to enlighten us. 2. Bridging the Gap between Bench and Bed Side - Novel Strategies and Innovations in Diagnostics and Therapeutics. With make in India mission and Atal Incubation centre gaining focus in our country, translational research which could help in identifying novel, specic and cost eective diagnostic and therapeutic are need of the hour. Experts in this area will be sharing their real life experience including patenting of their innovation. 3. Healing from Nature – Exploring new horizons in Traditional and Complementary Medicine.Mother Nature needs to be respected for her unlimited kindness to us in spite of all our misdeeds through her healing touch. Right from grandmother’s kitchen to the sophisticated labs, nature has been exploited to the maximum for gaining insight into the mechanisms or for new treatment options with minimal side eects. The sessions under this subtheme would be elucidating the scientic approach towards traditional and complementary medicine.

About the Indian Association of Basic Medical Sciences (IABMS):According to Claude Bernard, “If we break up a living organism by isolating its dierent parts, it is only for the sake of ease in analysis and by no means in order to conceive them separately”.

Hence, the prime mission, vision, and objectives of IABMS are to integrate every aspect of the pre & para medical sciences to produce an inclusive and integrative approach to the perfect physical and psychological health of every human being.

The association was formed in 1979 in Dr. A. L. Mudaliar Post Graduate Institute of Basic Medical Sciences (Dr. ALMPGIBMS), University of Madras, Taramani Campus, Chennai. Prof. Dr. B. Ramamurthy, the acclaimed neurosurgeon, was the founder President. Prof. Dr. Sarada Subramaniam, Physiologist, was the founder General Secretary of IABMS.

Legacy of the doyens have been carried forward by acclaimed scientists like Dr. C. R. Krishnamurthy, Dr. A. Krishnamurthi, Dr. B. S. Gajalakshmi, Dr. S. Subramani-an, Dr. K. Madhavan kutty Dr. Leela Krishnamuti, Dr. A. Namasivayam, Dr.M.S.Kr-ishnamurthy, Dr.S.P.Thyagarajan, Dr.G.Rajagopal, Dr.S.Venkataraman, Dr.S.Rajara-jan, Dr.D.Sakthisekaran, Dr.A.K.Singh, Dr.G.Victor Rajamanickam, Dr.Thirunal-lasundari serving as presidents. This association has grown to the current stature with the dynamic and untiring support of the oce bearers and life members and contributing signicantly to the eld of biomedical sciences. This legacy continues as we are in the 40th year celebrations under the dynamic leadership of Dr.G.K.Pal as the President and Dr.E.Padmini as General Secretary.

In the beginning, the association comprised of a few individual scientists from the Association of Physiologists and Pharmacologists in 1979. Now, the association has diversied into other interdisciplinary and integrative areas of education, and research which include every branch of medicine, dental, veterinary, pharma-cy and other related basic sciences.

To promote science among youngsters, pre conference workshops in the newest areas are a highlight of this conference. In addition the association awards close to 20 Prizes for both distinguished senior scientists and young researchers apart from fellowship and membership titles. Our University:The Chettinad Academy of Research and Education (CARE), was conferred the status of Deemed to be University under section 3 of UGC Act, 1956, in the year 2008. CARE has been accredited with Grade “A” by NAAC, and accorded SIRO status by DSIR.

The mission, vision, and objectives of CARE are to educate, enlighten and empower the students with interdisciplinary and integrative courses, which are professional, innovative, and job application oriented in nature. CARE was start-ed with Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences (AHS), and Faculty of Nursing. Now, CARE is diversifying into the areas of Arts, Sciences, Architec-ture, Pharmacy and Law. The vision is to add every eld of education, research and profession and transform CARE into an Institute of Excellence, on par with the leading Universities of the World.
