EXAMINATION REGULATIONSTaking your ACCA exams is part of your journey towards becoming an ACCA professional accountant and we therefore expect you to act in a professional manner when takingyour exams. The following rules on conduct apply to students completing projects or sitting paper-based and computer-based exams, as well as those taking internally-assessed ACCA courses.
EXAMINATION GUIDELINESBefore the Examinations
1 You are required to comply in all respects with any instructions issued by the registrar, exam supervisor and invigilators before and during an exam.2 You may not attempt to deceive the registrar or the exam supervisor by giving false or misleading information.3 If you are given reading time at the beginning of the exam, you are not allowed to open or write on your answer booklet until the supervisor tells you to do so at the end of the reading time. You are, however, permitted to write on your question paper.4 If you are given reading time at the beginning of the exam, the exam is considered to be in progress from the start of the reading time.5 You are not allowed to take to your exam desk any books, notes or other materials except those authorised by the registrar. These are known as ‘unauthorised materials’.
6 You are not allowed to possess any unauthorised materials while the exam is in progress (whether at your desk or otherwise). 7 You are not allowed to use, or attempt to use, or intend to use, any unauthorised materials while the exam is in progress. 8 If you breach exam regulation 5, 6 or 7, and the unauthorised materials are relevant to the syllabus being examined, it will be assumed that you intended to use them to gain an unfair advantage in the exam. In any subsequent disciplinary proceedings, you will have to prove that you did not intend to use the unauthorised materials to gain an unfair advantage in the exam. 9 You may not assist, attempt to assist, obtain or attempt to obtain assistance by improper means from any other person during your exams.10 You are required to adhere at all times to the Instructions to Candidates, which you receive with your Examination Attendance Docket.
11 You are required to comply with the exam supervisor’s ruling. Supervisors are obliged to report any cases of irregularity or improper conduct to the registrar. The supervisor is empowered to discontinue your exam if you are suspected of misconduct and to exclude you from the exam hall.12 You may not engage in any other unprofessional conduct designed to assist you in your exam attempt.13 You are not permitted to remove either your candidate answer booklet or your question paper from the exam hall. All exam candidate answer booklets remain the property of ACCA.14 Once the exam has started, you are not allowed to leave the exam hall permanently until the end of the session and then only when instructed by the supervisor.15 If you attempt to gain an unfair advantage in the exam (whether by breaching an exam regulation or otherwise) you are likely to be removed from ACCA’s student register following disciplinary proceedings.
You may only sit the paper(s) chosen by you andshown on this document.
You may only sit at the examination centre shownon this document.
You should retain this document and take it withyou to the examination centre where:- it will ensure your entry to the examination- it will be used to verify your identity during the examination- it will be retained by the centre supervisor after your last examination in the session.
You must not make any additional markings on this document.
In addition to this document, you should also takeyour Student Registration Card or another officialmeans of photographic identity, such as yourpassport, driving licence, national identity card, tothe examination centre. If you are unable toprove your identity your candidate answerbooklet(s) may not be marked.
Please pay close attention to the Supervisor'sannouncement at the beginning of eachexamination. This will include important informationrelating to safety within the examination hall.Please also ensure that you know where the fireexits are.
Each desk in the examination hall is numbered;please ensure that you are sitting at the correctdesk by referring to the desk number shown on thisdocument. If you are taking more than one paper,please note that your desk number may vary frompaper to paper and if you do not sit at the correctdesk your candidate answer booklet(s) may berendered invalid.
During the Examination
Please ensure that you arrive on time for yourexamination(s) as you will not be given extra time ifyou are late.
All three hour exams include 15 minutes of readingand planning time, starting at the time stated on thisdocket. During reading and planning time, you mayannotate your question paper but cannot open youranswer booklet.
The Supervisor will not allow you to enter theexamination hall after the first hour of theexamination.
You are not permitted to leave the hall permanentlyuntil the end of the session.If you are required to leave the hall for a shortperiod at any time, you will be escorted by anInvigilator.
You may take to your desk:- rulers, pens, pencils and an eraser- geometrical instruments and charting templates- a noiseless, cordless pocket calculator which may be programmable but which may not have a printout or graphic/word display facility in any language.- a small bottle of water, all labels removed. No other drinks are permitted.
Mobile phones or pagers should be switched off at alltimes in the examination hall and are NOT permittedto be taken to your desk under any circumstances.
Please leave all bags and briefcases at a point indicatedby the Supervisor. This includes mobile phones andpagers. ACCA cannot accept responsibility for the theftor loss of, or damage to, any items left in theexamination hall, therefore you are advised not to bringany items of value to the centre.
Before the examination begins please complete thefollowing details on the front of your candidate answerbooklet in black ballpoint pen:- your registration number and name- your desk number- your centre/hall code number- your exam paper number and version (where appropriate) At the end of the exam please also indicate the question numbers you have attempted on the front cover of the booklet and in the space provided at the top of each page within the booklet.
Please also ensure that you include these details on anycontinuation booklet(s) which may be given to you duringthe examination and note that no extra time is allowedfor this at the end of the examination.Please use only black ball point pen to complete youranswers in your candidate answer booklets.
Please ensure that you have been given the correctexamination paper by comparing the front cover ofyour examination paper with the paper designationcode on this document.
Please do not smoke in the examination hall.
ACCA does not implement a dress code for itsexaminations. However, please dress for yourexamination(s) in a manner which will not causeoffence to your fellow candidates.
Before, during and after your examination(s), please donot behave in a manner which will distract your fellowcandidates. Inappropriate behaviour will be reported toACCA by the Supervisor.
Please do not open your question paper or startwriting in your answer booklet until you are instructed todo so by the Supervisor.
It is in your direct interest to show your roughworkings for each question in your answer booklet.This will help the marker accurately assess yourperformance in the examination. You should alsostart each question on a new page and indicate thequestion number in the space provided at the top ofthe page.
Please stop writing as soon as the Supervisor endsthe examination. Please do not then leave yourdesk until the Supervisor permits you to do so.
After the Examination
Please submit your completed answer booklets, question paper and any unused stationery to the invigilator/supervisor at the end ofthe examination. No item of stationery should beremoved from the exam hall.
Your examination result will be sent to youapproximately nine weeks after the exams arecompleted. The date for despatch will be publishedin ACCA website/student accountant.You canregister to receive your results by email too. Log onto myACCA and choose the option to receive yourexam results by email.
Your worked candidate answer booklets remain the property of ACCA and will not bereturned to you.
Your examination entry fees are not refundable ortransferable.
NOTE TO CANDIDATES SITTING IN GHANA
You are requested by the West AfricanExaminations Council to produce your identificationcard or passport in addition to your ACCAdocumentation at the examination centres in Accra,Kumasi and Takoradi. Failure to do so will result inyou not being allowed into the examination hall.
NOTE TO CANDIDATES SITTING AT SPECIALEXAMINATION CENTRES
If you are sitting at a designated Special Centre,please pay all invigilation and accommodation feesdirectly to the local Supervisor before the date ofthe examination. If you are unable to sit theexamination for which you have entered, pleaseadvise the local Supervisor in good time and paywhatever cancellation fees may be appropriate.
