This really helps to keep things on schedule. What really helps is temperatures in the 60’s in February, but something tells me we’re not quite out of the woods yet as far as snow. We have now had 7 snow days this year which means we are beyond the allotted 6 days we are allowed. For this reason, April 17 th which was a scheduled day off will now be a scheduled school day for Traditional Students. Since our Year- Round students were on intersession on the last snow day, they are not required to make this date up. This past month we had several things going on in the school. For starters, our Valentine’s Day Dance was a big success as the kids really enjoyed themselves. We really appreciate the help we got from several parent volunteers. Thank you very much for your support! We also had our band concerts here at Rolland-Warner for band students. The students did an excellent job as did the band directors getting them ready. We did receive some feedback about lack of space, both in terms of seating and parking. While we are limited somewhat, please know that we take all feedback seriously and will work to improve all our events when possible. Additionally, we’ve been holding our transition meetings for our incoming 6 th grade students (next year’s 6 th grade). We learned a lot from the transition last year and we’re making some adjustments based on feedback we got last year. We’re trying to make the scheduling process as easy to understand as possible, and the transition to middle school seamless for our incoming students. In other news Mrs. Hoyt, our Dean of Students, has left the district to pursue a career opportunity working for Lapeer County in their truancy department. She did an excellent job for a long time in what can be a difficult position. I know the students were sad to see her go as were we. With that being said, we welcome Mr. Meister to the building as our new Dean of Students. He has taught in several districts and knows many of the students already from substitute teaching at Rolland-Warner so we anticipate a smooth transition. We are looking for volunteers to help out at our Book Fair which is coming up March 13 th through the 17 th . We’ve had several parents sign up already. Your job is to keep the book fair tidy, run the register, etc. If you are interested, please call our attendance secretary Mrs. Shrontz or email her at [email protected]. She can let you know which spots are available.

This past month we had several things going on in the school. For starters, our Valentine’s Day Dance was a big success as the kids really enjoyed themselves. We really appreciate the help we got from several parent volunteers. Thank you very much for your support! We also had our band concerts here at Rolland-Warner for band students. Student Handbook Notes

Athletics Update

Each month a couple areas of the student handbook will be highlighted. Don’t forget the full student handbook can be found under the “Parents & Students” tab on our website at http://rw.lapeerschools.org/

p. 95 PERSISTANT DISOBEDIENCE

“Repeated misbehavior in complying with the rules and regulations of the school and instructional staff. Suspension up to 10 school days or expulsion.”

Sometimes little behaviors can add up. While being on your cellphone in class is one thing, repeatedly doing it despite warnings, redirection, and minor consequences such as detentions can lead to discipline in the form of suspensions.

Please have this conversation with your child if you start noticing emails and phone calls from teachers for the same small misbehaviors.

Washington DC Trip Achatz Pie Fundraiser went out early February and are due on March 2, 2017 during lunches. Please ensure the order forms are totaled prior to sending in or your child will be totaling during lunches to turn in. The crew entering orders only looks at the totals!

Delivery of the product will occur on March 23 from 3pm-5pm ONLY! Please be prompt as that time of the year the temperatures rising and your product will thaw rapidly!

A waitlist has been formed for the DC trip with four buses being filled! If your child is on the waitlist be prepared to pay up to the current amount if they are moved from the waitlist to going, as individuals move or drop. If you are waitlisted and have fundraised that amount will be applied to the next payment, not initial.

Rolland-Warner PAC Meetings

The building has monthly PAC meetings which is an opportunity for parents to meet with the principal and talk about various things including curriculum, building vision, and the overall direction of RW moving forward.

Below are our next two meeting dates. We start at 9:30am in our conference room.

Student Council Valentine’s Dance

Thank you to all the chaperones, staff and parents, for being at our Valentine’s Dance! Your participation ensures a fun safe night for our students and is much appreciated!

Spring PT Conferences are much different than our Fall ones.

These are by invite only and are held on March 7th from 5pm to 7pm. Parents will be contacted for availability on this night based on the teacher’s determination of the largest areas of need. If you are not contacted, you will not be attending the conferences.

Please understand that if you feel a conference is needed, but are not contacted, that you can still reach out to any teacher about any concerns you have. Our staff will work with you on addressing concerns such as potentially meeting on a different day, or perhaps a phone conference.
