EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Team Helios racing, an off road racing team was conceived in 2005 by a group of off-road enthusiasts in R. V. College of engineering. The team

participates in BAJA competitions organized by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE).

In 2015, the team fabricated a prototype which was the second lightest

in India (166Kg) and with that car we became the “NATIONAL CHAMPIONS” in Baja Student India and 4th in BAJA SAE in India. This

prototype was one of the fastest BAJA cars in India. In 2016, the team built an even better car weighing 145 kg and is currently the fourth

lightest in India. The team ranked in 9th in Baja student India and 5th in BAJA SAE.

Inspired and motivated by previous accomplishments and glories, the

team has set out to a build a car that would set a benchmark for design

standards in India. The team is mainly concentrating on making the car faster, lighter and durable. The team’s main agenda for the next season

is to be once again the national champions in Indian BAJA competitions and place in top 5 in the international BAJA which is going to be held in

USA.

ABOUT THE EVENTS

Baja Student India

Started in 2015, Baja Student India is an intercollegiate student design

competition that evaluates the ATV on various parameters such as design, cost presentation, sales presentation and various dynamic events such as acceleration,

maneuverability and a 4-hour long endurance event. After successfully completing all these events, the winner is declared.

Baja SAE

Baja SAE is an intercollegiate engineering design competition for undergraduate and graduate engineering students. The object of the competition is to simulate

real-world engineering design projects and their related challenges. Each team's goal is to design and build a prototype of a rugged, single seat, off-road

recreational vehicle intended for sale to the non-professional weekend off-road enthusiast.

The various venues for Baja SAE are India, Korea, South Africa, USA, Brazil. The Baja SAE US, now hosting the events for the last 40 years, annually hosts 3

events, in which around 300 teams from all around the world participate.

The Indian event, started in the year 2007, has been seeing around 30-400 teams participate every year. The various colleges include, NIT,IIT etc.

OUTCOME

The Objective of the team is to simulate real-world engineering design projects and their related challenges, in the field of ATV’s and to be able to sell the

design to a fictitious firm.

TEAM HISTORY

Team Helios Racing, was a brain child of the mechanical batch of 2005. Initially started as RVCE Mini

Baja, the team initially participated in the SAE Sasol, South Africa. Soon after watching the performance of the Indian teams, such as ours, abroad, the Society of Automotive Engineers(SAE), came forward to host the 1st ever Indian Baja event in 2007. Since then the team has been a very active competitor in the event.

In 2014, the team started its climb to success by being ranked 6th overall amongst 400 odd teams. This marked the start of a revolution in the team and the desire to improve their performance year after year.

In 2015, the team decided to participate in 2 events, Baja Student India, held in Jamshedpur and Baja SAE India, held in Pithampur, Indore.

In 2016, the team again participated in the same 2 Indian events as its previous team did as well as participate in the US SAE event. This time around, the team did perform well

For the first time we set foot into US BAJA in Rochester Institute of Technology, New York.

The team stood 26th overall and the best among the 6 Indian teams at the event. We were

second in acceleration second only to Michigan BAJA and thus the proud creators of the

second fastest buggy in the world.
