U.S.-Soviet Tensions During WWII
U.S. wasn’t on good terms with Soviet Union before WWII.
Allies during the war to defeat Nazi Germany.
Lots of suspicion and distrust on both sides.
The fear of Soviet’s spreading Communism led to Cold War.
Harsh Reality of an Economic Dream
Millions starved because of collective farms.
People saw only a few benefitted from economy.
Millions were killed for their protests.
Fall of Communism in USSR Mikhail Gorbachev became
president in the 1980s.
Gorbachev allowed more economic and political freedoms.
This led to republics demanding independence, and fall of the Soviet Union in 1991.
