OPEN TO THE PUBLIC! Economic Development Announcement On January 6th The Town of Claresholm received $83,000 from the Alberta Ministry of Labour to complete an 18 month project that will investigate gaps in Claresholm’s labour-force. Back in October the Economic Development Officer negotiated a new partnership with Southwest Community Futures, and the Claresholm & District Chamber of Commerce. Using the contracted services of Factor-5 Consulting, the 3-organizations have been successful in their joint- application to the Alberta Labour Market Partnership Grant. This project is a full investigation into the gaps between Claresholm’s labour-force, and Claresholm’s workforce. The labour-force are those that could and should be working. The work-force are the folks actually working. The main priorities of Claresholm’s 18-month Labour Market Partnership Project are: Priority 1: Support Industry and sector growth, Employer, and Community needs • Encourage increased participation in the workforce and attraction to in-demand occupations/professions. • Encourage workforce development in a variety of economic sectors in Claresholm. Priority 2: Foster a dynamic labour market in Claresholm through workforce engagement and development • Build industry and employer capacity to increase and enhance workforce participation of newcomers, youth, Indigenous peoples, women, mature workers, workers with low literacy and people living with a disability. Priority 3: Skills Gaps • Identify emerging occupations, workforce trends and training gaps through the development of labour market information studies and research. This would not have been possible without the efforts of the Claresholm & District Chamber of Commerce, Southwest Community Futures, and the Claresholm Economic Development Committee. To see the entire application, visit Claresholm.ca/business/economic-development Brady Schnell Economic Development From the Development Department With a New Year can come plans for construction, renovations, new businesses or expansions!
