When you want to add comment, type your text at the bottom of the window and hit Enter.

You can also drag and drop saved images or paste image URLs into a chat line.

Note: Once you add something to a Campfire, it is not editable. No content can be deleted - so share wisely!

Campfire supports the sounds listed here. Impress (startle?) your friends! You don't need codes to use emoji in Basecamp 3, though!

On a Mac, use control + command + space bar to pull up emoji. In Windows, look for the keyboard icon in the Windows taskbar in the lower right corner.

To grab someone's attention in Campfire, you can "@ mention" them by typing the @ symbol followed by their first name or initials.

They'll receive a notification for the @ mention.

To stay current in specific campfires, click Follow at the top right of the window.

You'll see a counter next to the Campfires menu for new posts to the Campfires you're following.

Click on that notification icon to see which Campfire rooms have new posts, and then on a Campfire name to go directly to that chat.

To create a new message, enter the Message Board card and click Post a new message.

Use the toolbar to format your text.

You can add bulleted or numbered lists. Click the indent icons (or press Tab on your keyboard) to make a sublist.

You can embed images into your message.

Click and drag pictures from your computer into the message to embed them in-line. (JPG, GIF, and PNG supported.)

The camera icon will activate your device's camera so you can take a picture and attach it to the discussion.

Attach a file to your discussion by clicking the attachment icon to attach a file, or click and drag the file from your computer.

To remove an attachment or picture from your draft, just click on it, then click the trash can.

Right away, Basecamp 3 gives you the option to either restore the item, or delete it permanently.

If you decide later you need the item back, you can restore it for up to 30 days.

Go to the Basecamp in which you deleted the item, and click on Settings toward the upper right, then on See items in the trash.

Once you're finished composing, you can click to Add/remove people at the bottom of the page.

If you're not ready to send the message just yet, click Save Draft and Basecamp 3 will keep it saved for when you're ready.

To-do’s is where you divvy up the task by creating lists.

To start a new list, give it a name and click Create to-do list.

You can also add notes, files or images about the list.

Start adding to-dos and assigning them to users. When you begin typing their name in the "Assign" field, Basecamp 3 will display matching results

When you assign a to-do to someone else, they'll receive a notification.

Once it's done, they can click in the checkbox next to the to-do to mark it as complete.

To-dos can also be assigned a due date or a span of dates — select the radio button for the type you need.

Then, select the date(s). The person assigned will get a reminder notification at 9:00 AM the day before the due date and again at 9:00 AM on the day it’s due.

Leave a note, pictures or files if the to-do needs more detail.

To edit a list or to-do title, click on it, then click Edit at the top left.

When you're done, click Save changes.

Move items in your list or between lists by clicking and dragging the small grip icon to the left.

Drop them in their new place. You can do this with entire lists, too!

You can see the number of completed to-dos in your lists at a glance, so you always know how much you've done.

After you save your event, you can add it to your personal calendar, using the iCal options.

To sync your entire schedule with Google Calendar or another external calendar program, click on the Subscribe button in your Basecamp's Schedule card.

Follow the instructions to subscribe with your Google Calendar, or click on the links to launch iCal/Outlook.

Your schedule lists all your events, along with to-dos with a due date.

You'll see who's involved with your events, and who is assigned to the to-do.

At Basecamp, every day we ask people what they're working on, and what they had for lunch.

Once a week, we ask people to take a picture of what they look like that day.

Every other Monday, we ask people to share a good recipe.

Once a month, we ask what people are reading, because who doesn't need a recommendation for a good book?

To set up an automatic check-in, click the Automatic Check-ins card.

To pause a check-in, go to the list of check-ins and toggle "on" to "off."

To delete a check-in, click the check-in in question and then click the File... option and select Trash.

Add files from your computer.

Anywhere you see the text editor in Basecamp, you can attach a file one of two ways:

1. Click the paperclip icon and then select a file from your computer.

Be sure to click the green Add this... button before you leave the page so that your message and file upload properly.

2. Drag a file from anywhere on your computer and drop it onto the page where the text editor is open.

Images files (PNG, JPG, GIF) will appear with previews in your browser.

To delete a file attached to an item, click to Edit the item (top left) and then click on the file.

A green trash item will appear above the file.

Click the Delete/backspace on your keyboard to remove the file.

To upload a stand-alone file, go to the project and click the Docs & Files option.

Then, click the green button to Upload a file.

Once the file loads, click the green button to publish.
