TECHNOLOGY: HELP THE COMMUNITY
Many families with limited income source live on my street in Jalalabad – who cannot afford purchasing a computer.
Whenever possible, I invite children from such families to our house to let them learn how to use a computer; together we spend time improving our computer skills.
Computer literacy for the disadvantaged
I was able to help two girls from my neighborhood by sharing my computer knowledge with them. We started off with basics, such as turning a computer on and off, use of a computer mouse and continued with learning MS Word and Power Point programs.
The next advance step was introducing them to the fascinating World Wide Web, or simply – the Internet.
With every session we advance our computer skills by utilizing various office applications and also, gain rich knowledge on any topic that interests us thanks to the vast amounts of useful data available through the Internet.
ONE OF THE LESSONS:INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTERS
I will continue to have learning sessions with the two girls form my street at my home, and at the resource centers, library
Once they are comfortable enough around a computer, we together will go out and encourage more children from our neighborhood to learn computers
We will also encourage groups of students from our school to do the same in their neighborhoods, ultimately growing number of technologically educated youth in Jalalabad
GOALS:
PLAN AND RESOURCES:
Learn to: Operate a computer, manipulate computer data (create, move, delete, and copy files and folders, manage hard drives, flash drives and work with other related devices, such as a printer, scanner, etc)
Learn to: Utilize Internet resources (web search, downloading files, using e-mails, communicating through social-networking tools, such as odnoklassniki.ru)
Improving computer skills and advanced learning of various software programs
PROPOSED ACTIVITY• To achieve the goals of
computer literacy and use of Internet I will have learning sessions with the girls from my street. Furthermore, with their help, we will encourage other children from our neighborhood to also become computer literate.
EXPECTED RESULTS • Information technologies have long been in
everyday use around the globe. Computer literacy is the most publically wide spread kind of technology knowledge – and our local community should have an opportunity to have such knowledge.
• Starting with teaching a few people computer lessons, I hope to develop my efforts to something a lot more bigger and valuable than to just operate a computer. The ultimate results that I would be looking for would be:
• Build our own social network and personal bonds with people who share similar interests and aspirations
• Provide children from disadvantaged households an opportunity to discover their true potentials and realize them in a fruitful and positive manner, by becoming a contributing citizen of our country
