Nowadays, the use of emoticons for facebook is widely appreciated by many. With our world that communication is now digitalized, contacting friends and relatives physical has

become scarcer every day. Some people are better communicator face to face and others are more reliable

through online communication. Although there are advantages and disadvantage in face to face and online communication, it really depends to the strength of the person and its capability on how to better communicate no matter what method he or

she is using.

For most men, the use of emoticons for their online communication can be degrading and a violation to their “Guy

Code”. But there are certain emoticons that men can use without hurting their manhood. And there are some rules

where emoticons can be used and how to use;

Rule # 1: Emoticons use is restricted to smiley, sad and winking emotions and occasionally sealed lips. The use of emoticons

other than the mentioned means that a guy is putting way more efforts in expressing his emotions, emoticons should appear as

a spur of the moment emotion.Rule # 2: Emoticons should only be used if there is a possibility

of serious and sexual relationship. The use of emoticons is restricted to friends and co-workers as it can appear come off

as creepy.

Rule # 3: Kids find it cool to use emoticons, it is way cooler to use for nieces and little cousins.

Rule # 4: Emoticons should use for flirting. It is a way to start the flirting process without being creepy and too forceful. An example statement of this is “We should hang out together

tomorrow ;)” than “We should hang out together tomorrow”. Phrase 1 is much better than the latter as it is less pushy and

not threatening.

Rule # 5: Never overuse emoticons. It should be used cautiously and only to someone you are interested in.

Rule # 6: If the emoticon has been sent back to you by the person you are using emoticons with, consider it as a compliment.

People only use emoticons to those they are positively interested with or talking to.
