Microsoft Excel spreadsheets often contain commercially sensitive or privileged information that is difficult to identify and redact. TIFF or image renditions of redacted Excel spreadsheets are difficult to create and their usability is questionable. eDiscovery rules in many jurisdictions require the exchange of data in a native and useable format.

The current method of redacting documents requires the petrification of a document to an image format such as TIFF or PDF. This works well for documents that are printable but since Excel spreadsheets don’t have the notion of a page, image renderings of an Excel spreadsheet will likely be poorly paginated, which makes working with and applying redactions difficult. Attempting to redact directly in Excel risks breaking formulae and the workflow is likely to be confusing and error prone.

RTK.ExcelRedact takes Excel documents of any shape and size and rendering them as an interactive webpage which has been designed specifically for redacting Excel spreadsheets. You can quickly apply a variety of redactions to the document (black, white, and text-based), search for keywords, and switch between worksheets. RTK.ExcelRedact will also unhide columns, and notify reviewers of other hidden data. Once you’re finished simply click save and our system will upload a redacted Excel spreadsheet to Relativity associating the new document with the original.
