• RTE Act is a milestone in the quest for Universal Education in India

• The un-realized objective of section 12 of RTE is to make education inclusive

• But even after 4 years not much have changed

• We started this project to know the status of implementation in Ahmedabad

• Our experience with Prayaas have shown us how student initiatives can transform lives

Currently the RTE suffers from poor implementation mostly due to information asymmetry

Unclear Policy & Redtapism• Schools, NGOs not fully aware of policy guidelines, dates.• Bottlenecks in the admission process – obtaining address

proofs, distance certificates, etc.

Resistance from Schools• Parents in management resisting EWS kids’ admission• Schools creating hurdles for implementations
