9.10aM connecting with the female consumer - Women now form more than half of clubs’ membership base, so how do you ensure you are meeting their needs. Amanda Stevens is a global authority on marketing and selling to women. In 2000, she coined the term ‘SheMarketing’ and now heads up a team of marketing, research and PR experts who work with hundreds of brands to leverage the growing female consumer dollar. Amanda provides a step-by-step approach for attracting and capturing the hearts and minds of female consumers.

10.10aM tough times demand tough decisions – the Hon Jeff Kennett Ac was an Officer in the Royal Australian Regiment, serving at home and overseas. He became leader of the Victorian Opposition in 1982 and in 1992 swept to power. Under his Premiership, Victoria earned the reputation as Australia’s most reformist government leading Australia in privatisation of public authorities, reducing the State’s indebtedness, reinvigorating its economy and reinstating confidence among the Victorian community. In November 1999, Mr Kennett resigned from the Victorian Parliament after 23 years service to pursue a corporate career and among his passions now is his chairmanship of Beyondblue, a National Depression Initiative.

10.45aM Morning Tea – sponsored by PKF

11.10aM Building customer Franchise – The intense competition in the marketplace shows no sign of abating. New approaches to creating value and leveraging new ideas (often introduced by new competitors) continue to emerge. Focused customer engagement and loyalty is a clear strategic imperative for building sustainable value for members and enhancing a venue’s leadership reputation. dr Peter Wilton, an Australian now based at the

Haas School of Business at the University of California, stresses the need for management to better understand the distinction between behavioural and attitudinal loyalty to develop more effective customer loyalty strategies.

12.10PM conference Opening and Global Gaming Update – Andrew Hely, Managing Director, IGT Australia

12.45PM lunch – sponsored by club data Online

2.00PM Mutuality – does it have a future? – The principle of mutuality has been placed under the microscope in two recent inquiries by the Productivity Commission and the Henry Review. This presentation by Paul lyons Partner Tax Consulting at PKF will look at its value to the industry and what it would mean if it was lost. The session will also explore whether its value is over-emphasised and is a potential barrier to wider tax reform.

2.30PM Aged care/seniors living – is it for your club? There has long been a synergy between the club industry model, in particular RSL and services clubs, and aged care/seniors living. david Nelson has consulted within the aged care and retirement industry for over 20 years and has an in-depth understanding of the requirements of bankers, governments, boards, residents and aged care management. With the backdrop of the Productivity Commission’s current inquiry to develop detailed options for restructuring Australia’s aged care system, he will delve into the potential template clubs could adopt in diversifying into those activities, including the pros and cons.

3.20PM Afternoon tea – sponsored by PKF

3.45PM Panel discussion: Keeping up appearances - Tough economic times doesn’t necessarily mean that you cannot keep your venue relevant to your marketplace and meet the expectation of members and visitors. It’s also about maintaining that point of difference and giving the customers something to talk about. If a venue looks tired and rundown customers will soon become bored with the surroundings and simply ‘move on’. This panel discussion will look at the key drivers to the makeover and, given that women make up a large proportion of membership, what they look for in a venue.

4.30PM Amalgamation – when is it too late? Amalgamations of clubs have slowed in recent times as the industry goes through tough
