SOCIOTAL addresses a crucial next step in the transformation of an emerging business driven Internet of Things (IoT) infrastructure into an all-inclusive one for the society by accelerating the

creation of a socially aware citizen-centric Internet of Things.http://www.sociotal.eu/

Page 8: RRI Tools SEE Hub meeting

AIMS

Enable a citizen-inclusive and pro-citizen IoT

Encourage citizen participation in the IoT to boost (societal) innovationProvide direct benefits to citizens, help addressing true needs of neighbourhood, communities and society at largePut control into the hand of the citizen on who can access information

ENABLING USERS – KEY FEATURESIntuitiveIt should be easy to use. Not too much to install, smooth learning curve, natural UI metaphors where possibleTrustworthyNo unwanted information leaks, enforce privacy policies, flexible about policies depending on context of useAssistiveAssist in common tasks, (e.g. place an alarm if energy consumption data are suspicious)

APPROACHDesign and provide key enablers for a reliable, secure and trusted IoT environment by encouraging people to contribute their IoT devices and information flowsProvide a citizen-centric IoT approach towards creation of large-scale IoT solutions of interest to the society in order to exploit billions of new IoT information streamsBy equipping communities with secure and trusted tools that increase user confidence in IoT environment, enable their transition to smart neighbourhoods, communities and cities

IoT ECO-SYSTEM Key elements: TRUST, USER CONTROL and TRANSPARENCY establish the confidence of everyday users and citizens. By providing adequate socially aware tools and mechanisms that simplify complexity encouraging citizen participation in the Internet of Things. This will provide a wealth of opportunities for the creation of new services and applications that address true societal needs and allow the improvement of the quality of life across European cities and communities

GOALTo develop bioethical standards - a list of conditions optimizing human relations to their own health, animals, plants and environment, based upon the principles and theory of European bioethics combined with experiences and realistic ambitions of local communities (local government, CSOs, etc.). Three local communities have been selected as pilot communities: Krsan, Bakar and Mali Losinj.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES“Bioethical standards” will be formed including the conclusions from workshops where different representatives of local community (local politicians, NGO representatives, local association representatives) will be involved. The workshops will promote dialogue between all of them with the possibility to discuss the quality of life and the major problems in environmental protection from their own point of view.

METHODOLOGYThe process of developing of "bioethical standards"

will be formulated through the workshops, negotiations, talks and conferences. The participants

will be scientists of various profiles (public health, veterinary medicine, agriculture, forestry,

philosophy, theology, politics, etc.) from Croatia, Serbia and Germany and with involvement of the

local stakeholders (including CSO).

BENEFITSBy applying the results of scientific and philosophical research to concrete problems of endangered communities, the research itself is supposed to gain volume and sense. In case the work on forming the bioethical standards would result in the increase of local consciousness, this might become a good practice worthy of repeating and disseminating.

TARGET GROUPS AND STAKEHOLDERSTargeting all citizens of the Republic of Serbia. Among CPN stakeholders there are various societal actors: public media, local and national governments, academic and scientific communities and institutions, National council for science and technological development, Ministry for education, science and technological development, small and medium enterprises, non-government and civil society organisations, etc.

GOALTo foster, strengthen and bring together all science promotion initiatives and create a large front for scientific culture widespread. The goal of the Center is to stimulate curiosity and creativity, and inspire young people to opt for a future career in science. To raise the level of education and knowledge of the citizens in Serbia and to make science interesting, appealing and popular, involving all actors in the society.

EXPECTED OUTCOMESTo improve a public perception of science and to involve citizens and maintain participation of all sectors of society in the process of creation of

science policies and application of scientific findings. To include members of society with different

backgrounds and characteristics (both woman and man, wealthier and poorer population, families or

individuals, etc.) through appropriate communication channels and approaches.

METHODOLOGYOrganization of lectures, debates, workshops and exhibitions and all other kind of activities inspired by various scientific fields. The inclusion of all society groups with special attention to young people. Filling the huge gap between research and general public, making the public more informed and empowered to influence the whole cycle of the research and innovation, based on true needs of the society.
