OVERBURDEN DRILLING, LOGGING, SAMPLING AND INTERPRETATION

INTRODUCTION

A Longyear "38" reverse circulation overburden drill was contracted

frpm Bradley Brothers Ltd. to drill four holes in Lucas Township (Figure

1). The drill is irounted on a Flextrac Nodwell for mobility. Holes QT84-

062, 064, 065 and 066 were drilled from the morning of June 9 to 10:20 AM

on June 11 1984. The work was done on four claims P805670 to P805673

(inclusive) and is being applied to those four claims (Figure 2).

DRILLING Si LOGGING

Water or a mixture of compressed air and water is pumped

down the outer tube of the dual tube rods and through the

tricone bit. The material is flushed up the inner tube to'

the surface as it is being drilled. At the surface, the

water/material mixture is passed through a cyclone, where it

is slowed down before discharging into a 25 Litre sample

bucket. A 2mm (10 mesh) screen is placed above the bucket to

catch the Quaternary sediment slurry so that it can be

observed and described in field notes before it is manually

deposited into the sample bucket (Figure 3). The Quaternary
