1.0 INTRODUCTION

Induced polarization surveys were carried out over areas of geophysi- cally inferred fold structures and where outcrops of schistose chlori tic rocks indicated shear zones. I.P. was also used to try and better define the source of gold mineralization intersected during the first phase of diamond drilling. Disseminated to narrow massive bands of arsenopyrite and pyrrhotite were observed both in outcrop and in core. It was hoped that l.P. could detect other such zones.

This report summarizes the results of induced polarization surveys carried out on BP-Selco's Miminiska Lake claim block.

2.0 LOCATION, DESCRIPTION S. ACCESS

The property is located approximately 100 km east of the town of Pickle Lake at latitude 51O35'N and longitude 88O39'W.

Presently the property consists of 69 claims numbered as follows:

TB 686398 - TB 686400 incl. TB 784617 - TB 784620 incl. TB 687099 - TB 687132 incl. TB 830370 - TB 830378 incl. TB 747247 - TB 747266 incl.

The claim block is located on the Miminiska Peninsula. Access to the area is easiest by float equipped aircraft available for charter from Pickle Lake, Armstrong and Nakina. Miminiska Lake itself is part of the Albany River system and can be reached by water from Fort Hope, Ontario. The general area is marked by relief of less than 10 m except immediately south of Miminiska Lake where prominent morainic hills rise to about 150 m above the Lake. The claim block itself is charact erized by low rocky hills north of the baseline. Outcrop density varies from less than l* in the southern portions of the grid up to 401 locally (average ID-25%) north of the baseline.

3.0 GEOLOGY

The area lies within the Uchi Subprovince. The following is summarized from Wallace (1981). The reader is referred to O.G.S. Maps 2416 and 2417.

A thick metasedimentary sequence forms the central portion of the belt and is sandwiched between two separate, predominantly mafic, meta- volcanic bands. The succession youngs towards the north. A wedge of intermediate to felsic pyroclastics occurs along the sedimentary - older volcanic contact at the west end of Miminiska Lake.

The sedimentary sequence consists predominantly of intercalated wackes and mudstones and their metamorphic equivalents. In a number of places considerable thickness of oxide, carbonate and/or silicate facies iron formation is intercalated with the clastic sediments.

The area is bounded by a number of quartz monzonitic to granodioritic intrusions.

Structurally the area is considered to be the south limb of an east ward plunging syncline whose axis passes between Lakes Miminiska and

Keezhik. The western portion of the area is a north facing homocline whereas the east and central parts contain evidence of repeated iso clinal folding within the metasedimentary sequence (Wallace, 1981).

The geology of the property is dominated by an epiclastic suite of interbedded mudstones and siltstones to sandstones. Bedding is notice able on most outcrops and tops can locally be determined due to the graded nature of the sediments. Generally speaking the sandstone to mudstone ratio increases from north to south and from east to west on the grid. Bed thickness also decreases from east to west.

Clastic sediment outcrops are commonly cut by barren quartz veins of variable size. Some of these veins have narrow amphibolitized alteration haloes which contain minor amounts of barren, fine-grained pyrite cubes.

Immediately north of and along the baseline from about 2500mE to 3600mE sheared rocks in the form of the Fe-carbonate-bearing chlorite schists outcrop in at least two parallel horizons. These schists are interbedded with carbonate metacryst-bearing siltstones. Locally these siltstones may represent massive recrystallized chert beds. The sheared rocks are highly deformed and are commonly cut by massive, barren quartz veins up to a metre in width. The schists locally contain sulphides in the form of bands or lenses and disseminations of arsenopyrite and lesser pyrrhotite.

4.0 PREVIOUS WORK

Work carried out on the property includes geological mapping, ground geophysical surveys {HLEM, Mag, VLF) and diamond drilling. The follow ing are brief summaries of this work. The reader is referred to previously filed assessment reports and drill logs for a more detailed account of this work.

4.1 Ground Geophysical Surveys

The original 40 (1983) claim block was covered in its entirety with ground magnetics and HLEM (Max-Min II, 100 m cable, 1777 Hz) surveys. Readings were taken at 25 m intervals along lines cut at 100 m intervals. Following the first phase of diamond drilling additional claims were staked along strike of gold mineralization intersected in DDH M-6. These claims were covered with ground magnetics and VLF-EM. VLF and mag were also carried out on E-W lines cut across the western fold closure.

4.2 Humus Survey

A total of 1988 samples were taken during the summers of 1983 to 1985 inclusively. Samples were taken at 12.5 m intervals and were analysed for Au and As by direct irradiation neutron activation. Some sampling was carried out on E-W lines over the western fold closure.

Page 6: RPT ON IP SUR - MIMINISKA PROJ€¦ · IPT-1 transmitter with a 2.0 kw motor generator for power. Most of the work was done with a dipole-dipole array with 50 metre dipole lengths

- 3 -

Areas underlain by chloritic schists containing disseminated arseno pyrite and pyrrhotite responded well to humus sampling. A broad diffuse As anomaly directly overlying the western fold closure was detected. This anomaly contains erratic gold values. A weak gold and moderate arsenic anomaly was detected immediately down-ice from the M-6 mineralization.

Although gold does not seem to have been very successful in outlining areas of possible mineralization arsenic responded well to arseno pyrite mineralization. Anomaly contrast to background is very high for arsenic, ranging as high as 100X normal background.

4.3 Diamond Drilling

During the winters of 1984 and 1985 fifteen diamond drill holes totalling 1,532.15m were drilled. Targets included HLEM conductors, I.P. anomalies and humus anomalies associated with magnetically inferred fold closures. A significant albeit narrow gold intersection associated with arsenopyrite-pyrrhotite mineralization flanking an oxide facies iron formation band in DDH M-6 provided encouragement and sparked follow-up surveys and additional diamond drilling.

The source of the broad humus anomaly coincident with the western fold closure was not detected.

5.0 INDUCED POLARIZATION SURVEY

Induced polarization surveys were carried out under contract to BP-Selco by Mertens and MacNeil Geophysical Ground Surveys Ltd. of Guelph, Ontario. The surveys were carried out during the month of October, 1983 and June-July of 1984.

The equipment used consisted of a Phoenix IPV-1 receiver and a Phoenix IPT-1 transmitter with a 2.0 kw motor generator for power. Most of the work was done with a dipole-dipole array with 50 metre dipole lengths and readings taken out to six separations (i.e. a s 50m, n s 1-6). Some detailed work was done with the same array at a s 25m, n = 1-6. The operational frequencies of the transmitter used were 0.30 and 5.0 Hz. A total of approx. 50 line km was covered (43.35 km at as50m, 6.75 km at 3=251^ .

The data are presented in the Appendix as stacked pseudo-sections of apparent resistivity, frequency effect and metal factor for each survey line. The frequency effect, metal factor and resistivity data were filtered using a pyramidal-type weighting operator after Frazer (1981) and are presented as contoured plan Maps MI.3551F and MI.3552F, MI.3551G and MI.3552G, MI.3551J and MI.3552J respectively. The processing and contouring was done by Dataplotting Services of Toronto, Ontario.

6.0 SURVEY RESULTS

The induced polarization effects are only moderate with anomalous responses in the order of 4-6%. Three areas appear to host I.P. anomalies worthy of follow-up.

Page 7: RPT ON IP SUR - MIMINISKA PROJ€¦ · IPT-1 transmitter with a 2.0 kw motor generator for power. Most of the work was done with a dipole-dipole array with 50 metre dipole lengths

An oval shaped anomaly is located north of the baseline (1+75N - 2+25N) from L41E to L42E. This feature is coincident with a resisti vity low on L41E and an arsenic in humus anomaly. It is located on the south limb of the eastern fold closure and flanks a broad HLEM conductor.

The second area lies along the baseline from L27E to L34E and occurs as a discontinuous feature with isolated lobes of higher frequency effect. In outcrop it corresponds to a band of chloritic schists containing disseminated sulphides (arsenopyrite-pyrrhotite) and quartz veining. Small mag highs along this structure may correspond to local increases in pyrrhotite content. The I.P. anomaly is associated with (either coincident with or flanking) a number of narrow, steeply dipping and rather continuous HLEM conductors. The area is moderately to weakly anomalous in As and locally weakly anomalous in Au in humus samples. The anomaly is coincident with a corridor of low resistivity.

The third area occurs from L9E to L11E, 8+75S - 9+25S. Weaker I.P. responses tail off in a broad, diffuse band to the east. The main anomalous area is coincident with a narrow HLEM conductor and a narrow mag high which stretches from L9E to L14E. Weak Au and As humus anomalies flank the anomaly on its immediate down-ice side. DDH M-6, drilled to test the conductor coincident with the anomaly, intersected a narrow oxide-facies iron formation horizon as well as arsenopyrite- pyrrhotite mineralization and visible gold.

Other weaker anomalies exist, particularly on the west end of the grid. A broad feature corresponds to the North flank of the western fold from L7E to L9E, 1+50S - 2+50S. It is associated with As in humus anomalies in an area thought to be underlain by a narrow band of oxide-facies iron formation.

A weak feature occurs north of the baseline from L18E to L20E and is coincident with a resistivity low. Finally a very weak anomaly coin cides with the nose of the western fold closure and a broad, diffuse As in humus anomaly with erratic Au in humus results.

The resistivity data yields low values in areas known to be underlain by chlorite schists but very high values in areas of clastic sediments particularly north of the baseline where exposure is good and in the core of the western fold. An oxide-facies iron formation band along the north side of the baseline in the eastern portion of the grid also yields high resistivity results.

7.0 CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

All three areas which yielded strong I.P. responses have since been drill tested. DDH M-15 intersected pyrrhotite mineralization hosted by clastic sediments on L41E. DDH M-2 and M-3 cut wide intersections of quartz-chlorite schist with arsenopyrite-pyrrhotite mineralization in the form of disseminations, bands and clots on L32E. Assay results from these holes were disappointing. Finally, as mentioned earlier, M-6 intersected visible gold over a narrow width associated with arsenopyrite-pyrrhotite mineralization.

Page 8: RPT ON IP SUR - MIMINISKA PROJ€¦ · IPT-1 transmitter with a 2.0 kw motor generator for power. Most of the work was done with a dipole-dipole array with 50 metre dipole lengths

- 5 -

Despite having drill tested a number of targets on and around the western fold closure the source of the broad and strongly anomalous As and, to a lesser extent, Au humus anomaly has not been identified. The W-6 intersection indicates the strong As-Au association. It is recommended that a closely spaced basal till sampling program be carried out over the nose of the fold to try and identify the source of the humus anomaly.
