1. INTRODUCTION:
B This report covers work carried out in 1985, on a group of 56
contiguous claims in McCool Township. The claims were staked to
l assess the possible gold bearing potential of a Felsic/mafic contact
in close proximity to the nose of an ultramafic intrusion. Work
f carried out in 1985 consists of the establishment of a grid,
H geological mapping, a proton precession magnetometer survey and
backhoe trenching.
Due to extensive overburden cover, outcrop exposure was very poor
except in the the southern portion of the grid where a large mass of
chloritic pillowed basalts juts above the plain. The extensive
l overburden also hindered the backhoe trenching program in that
bedrock was encountered in only one trench.
m 2 . LOCATION AND ACCESS:
The McCool Township property is located in the northwest corner of
' McCool Township approximately 24km east of Matheson, Ontario (Figure
lM Access to the property is gained by following highway 101 east from
Matheson, about 23 km to the Munro/McCool township line. A good all
l weather haulage road goes north from here. About 9 km north on this
road will give you access to the claim group by a series of old
drilling and logging roads passable on all terrain vehicles only.

3. PROPERTY STATUS AND DESCRIPTION
l l l
The McCool Township property consists of 56 contiguous unpatented
l claims, staked December 1984 for Noranda Exploration Co. Ltd. A
list of claim numbers (Table 1) and a claim map (Figure 1) follow.
m The property is largely covered by a glacial overburden except for a
large mass of pillowed basalts which form a prominent ridge in the
l southwest corner of the grided area. The vegetation covering the
area consists of swampy Black Spruce areas, sand plains and ridges
l with Jack Pine and areas of Poplar and mixed coniferous trees.

4. PREVIOUS WORK
The earliest reported geological mapping of McCool Township was by
C.W. Knight in 1919. A more current examination was carried out by
J. Satterly in 1952.
In 1949, the Canadian Johns Manville Company Limited brought into
l production a deposit of chrysotile asbestos fibre in serpentinized
dunite in the adjoining township of Munro. This discovery sparked a
l flurry of activity in the whole area. Several Dunite and Peridotite
bodies in McCool township were extensively tested by numerous
companies in the early 1950's. Aeromagnetics, ground magnetics and
l diamond drilling was carried out on the most favourable targets.
Gold exploration, as well as other precious metals, has been the
l center of attention in recent years.

Both the basic-intermediate and felsic rocks in this area shows
i signs of hydrothermal alteration. These include quartz-carbonate
B veining, silicification and carbonatization. Shearing and minor
brecciation was also noted on a small scale. Only trace to 1 7,
l pyrite and pyrrhotite was noted in this area usually in the
chloritic andesites and basalts.
Two exposures of diabase were mapped on Lines 750E and 1125E (See
Map 1).
B. MAGNETOMETER SURVEY
1. Survey Parameters
During the month of October 1985, a Proton Precession Magnetometer
Survey was carried out on the established grid. The instrument used
l was a Geometrics G-816 which reads the total field within l nt.
Approximately 9km of magnetic surveying was carried out on NE
l trending Grid lines spaced 125m apart. Readings were taken at 25m
intervals with intermediate stations within anomalous zones. A base
station was established and the diurnal variation of the earth's
l magnetic field was monitored during the course of the survey.
Corrections were applied to the readings as a function of time of
l reading.

2. Data Presentation
The magnetic field data is presented in contoured plan form on Map

gradient. Contours were established as follows:

1600nt - 2200nt - 200nt
2800nt - 2800nt - 300nt
2800nt - AOOOnt - 600nt
AOOOnt - 7000nt - lOOOnt
7000nt - 20,000nt - SOOOnt
3. Discussion of Results
The magnetometer survey was very successful in outlining the tip of
a large serpentinized peridotite and dunite complex which has been
very well defined in the past by diamond drilling.
South of the grid on Lines 250E and 375E some moderately to strongly
l magnetic iron tholeiites were mapped. Readings taken in this area
are elevated by 300-500nt.
lThe very strong magnetic influence of the peridotites has masked the
l signature of other rock units in the area. The magnetics have
outlined the felsic/mafic contact just north of the baseline, which
trends in a northwesterly direction. On lines 1125E and 750E the
magnetics are strong over two exposures of a magnetic diabase dyke.

C. TRENCHING
l l l
Two days of backhoe trenching was carried out by Northland
l Explorations for Noranda Exploration in early November 1985, using a
M standard backhoe unit mounted on the back of a Muskeg tractor. This
unit allowed for easy access to the property where lack of bushroads
and extensive muskeg was a problem.
l Eleven trenches were dug in an attempt to find the bedrock source of
several anomalous humic samples taken in the summer of 1985 as well
J as to possibly expose the favourable hydrothermally altered contact
. which strikes through this area. See figure 2.
Bedrock was only encountered in trench eleven (11) which was
l expected as this trench was very close to outcrop. The bedrock
m surface in the trench dipped very steeply to the southwest. Rock
type in the trench is a chloritic, weakly altered dacite to
andesite. A l foot basal till was noted in this trench.
l All the remaining trenches were dug to a maximum depth of 3.5m with
no bedrock encountered. The soil profiles of all the trenches were
l the same with varying thicknesses of B2 soil horizon, fine sand,
brown clay to grey clay in that order. Grey clay was in the bottom
of all the trenches. Backfilling was done for safety reasons after
U s everal representative soil and clay samples were taken for
analysis.

l6. CONCLUSION
Timothy BabinProject GeologistNORANDA EXPLORATION CO. LTD.
l Geological mapping, humic sampling and a magnetometer survey had
' outlined a geochemically anomalous, geologically favourable area of
H interest. An attempt to carry out backhoe trenching failed due to
the extensive overburden cover. It is being proposed at this time
l that one, possibly two diamond drill holes be used to test this area
further.

Notice of Intent for Technical Reports
February 19, 1986
2.8887/530-85 8. 531/85
An examination of your survey report Indicates that the requirements of The Ontario Mining Act have not been fully met to warrant maximum assessment" work credits. This notice is merely a warning that you will not be allowed the number of assessment work days credits that you expected and also that in approximately 15 days from the above date, the mining recorder will be authorized to change the entries on the record sheets to agree with the enclosed statement. Please note that until such time as the recorder actually changes the entry on the record sheet, the status of the claim remains unchanged.
t
If you are of the opinion that these changes by the mining recorder will jeopardize your claims, you may during the next fifteen days apply to the Mining and Lands Commissioner for an extension of time. Abstracts should be sent with your application.
If the reduced rate of credits does not jeopardize the status of the claims then you need not seek relief from the Mining and Lands Commissioner and this Notice of Intent may be disregarded.
If your survey was submitted and assessed under the "Special Provision-Performance and Coverage" method and you are of the opinion that a re-appraisal under the "Man-days" method would result in the approval of a greater number of days credit per claim, you may, within the said fifteen day period, submit assessment work breakdowns listing the employees names, addresses and the dates and hours they worked. The new work breakdowns should be submitted directly to the Land Management Branch, Toronto. The report will be re-assessed and a new statement of credits based on actual days worked will be issued.
