Roydens infloor heating foil is designed tomake installation of heating under engineeredtimber floors even easier. Royden foilcomprises of 3 layers of polyester whichencapsulates the copper bus bar andconductive heating strips creating an ultrathin heating system in outputs to suit theheating requirements of any building.
Whilst Royden foil is proven in flooringapplications, it is important to ensure thatthe laminate or engineered board choice isapproved for use in conjunction withunderfloor heating and that themanufacturers guidelines concerningresidual moisture content are observed.
It is essential to allow an expansiongap around the perimeter of the floor.Royden foil sections can be shortened tosuit site conditions, please call our technicalhelpline for more information.
It is important that items of furniture used inrooms with underfloor heating have legs or‘bun feet’ to ensure adequate airflow underthe item of furniture to dissipate the heat.

Installation couldn’t be easierSelect from the chart the correct length ofRoyden infloor heating foil for the room tobe heated and divide the room width by500mm to work out the number of lengthsrequired. Elements should be wired inparallel, preferably with all connectingwires at one end of the room for easeof connection.
Royden foil should be laid over an insulationmaterial such as Stock No. 350014.This willensure the necessary thermal insulation andwill improve sound deadening. Two or morelayers of insulation board can be used tofurther improve insulation.
Royden foil and the connecting wires aretaped down to hold in position and allconnecting wires run to an accessiblejunction box or connection point mountedin the wall or in a cupboard.
The thermostat floor sensor shouldbe chased into the floor and laid in itsconduit to facilitate removal shouldit become necessary.
The complete Royden foil heating installationshould be covered by a vapour barrier(Stock No. 350017) and the engineered orlaminate floor can be laid in the normal way.

Installation instructions
1. Lay the insulation boardLay insulation board (stock no. 350014)over entire subfloor (timber or screed).
Before installation always check thesubfloor has adequate thermal insulation. This is particularly important whereRoyden foil is the primary heat source.
The sensor should be located underneaththe foil in the heated area.
Entire installation should be covered witha 500g vapour barrier.
Make sure all relevant contractors, particularly bathroom and kitchen fitters, know that electrical underfloor heatingis installed.
The use of mechanical floor fixings overthe heating area is prohibited.
All electrical work must conform to currentIEE wiring regulations and be checked orcarried out by a qualified electrician.Electrical installation work in dwellings issubject to the building regulations Part P.
Turn off the electrical supply at the powerdistribution unit to avoid risk of electricalshock. The electrical supply to theinstallation must always be protected by aresidual current device (RCD). The trippingcurrent rating of the RCD must notexceed 30MA.
Always ensure that your flooring is suitablefor use with underfloor heating.

2. Install the thermostatLay thermostat sensor tube onto floor, cutting a groove in the insulation. Ensure thetube is flush with the top of the insulation.
3. Lay Royden foilLay out the Royden foil sheets using fixingtape and run all lead wires back tojunction box.
4. Lay flooringCover entire system with vapour barrier(Stock no. 350017) and lay laminate orengineered floor in the normal way.
All electrical connections should be carried out by a qualifiedelectrician. In accordance with current regulations.
