Shackleton House is named after Derek Shackleton, a Hampshire and England bowler who took over 100 wickets in 20 consecutive seasons of first-class cricket. He currently has the seventh-highest tally of first-class wickets, and the most of any player who began his career after World War II. Shackleton holds the record for the most first-class wickets taken by any Hampshire player and played in seven Test Matches for England. Hampshire CCC also honoured the great bowler by naming a premier suite at the Ageas Bowl after him.

For a period of time in limited-overs cricket, Hampshire CCC were called the ‘Hampshire Royals’. The Club dropped ‘Royals’ from their name in 2013 in preparation for their 150 year anniversary and are now most commonly known simply as ‘Hampshire’.
