Mt Olive 30th Annual NAHS Invitational 10 students had work submitted to the Mt. Olive Invitational. At an Artist’s Reception awards are given in six categories: Painting, Drawing/Illustration, Sculpture, Crafts, Photography (Digital or traditional) and Open. Scholarships from colleges and art schools were awarded to juniors and seniors. 15 schools participate, each submits 10 works of art = 150 pieces of artwork!

ARTstart Exhibition - William Paterson University At a Gala Reception and Awards Ceremony in the Power Art Gallery on Saturday, January 31st, two distinguished university art professors will conduct judging and awards in a number of categories, including Best In Show. Scholarships are awarded during the reception ceremony, portfolio reviews and tours of the art facility are given on the day of the reception.

For the collection of Raku Fired ceramic ware on display at the Montville Mudd show artist Lisa Westheimer, representative of Montclair Art Museum, presented the Roxbury Art Department with a copy of her video “Strike Firing Lusterware”.

EMS 8th Grade Art Enrichment Tape Murals -Lesson Unit: Perspective Teacher: Mrs. Monica Roman (RHS)
*Students created tape murals in the “B” hallway of EMS.
* Reinforcing one point perspective, groups first sketched out their ideas, projected the drawings onto the walls using an overhead projector, and completed the murals using various colors and widths of painters tape.
* Their precision and attention to detail resulted in the beautiful artwork of the following slides.

The Blackwell Street High School Student Art Show is one which we look forward to all year. It gives students and teachers the opportunity to submit their best artwork which is judged by a panel of artists from the Blackwell Street Center for the Arts. Works which are selected for the show are on display at the Atrium Gallery in Morristown through the month of April. At the opening reception on April 1st, ribbons were awarded for various categories. Students, friends, parents and teachers attended to celebrate the talent and achievements of all who participated.

Hannah Safreed, grade 12 Raku fired “Masquerade Ball” received 3rd Place in Ceramics
Allison Abney’s “Sing from your Heart” was an assignment which required a work of art utilizing and inspired by used tea bags. The portfolio piece was part of the application process required for enrollment into Advanced Placement Art Studio.

Ben Gould had 2 pieces of ceramic ware selected for display. Here his friends and family take photos of his raku fired leaf, “Petrification”. His process included imprinting the clay with the texture from an elephant ear leaf, pouring on “Steve’s Blue” glaze and raku firing the piece.
