Rover's Mission

Presenting treasures, new and rediscovered: theatre "off the beaten path."

Rover Dramawerks produces lost or forgotten works of well-known authors,

revives excellent scripts that have suffered from lack of exposure, and discovers unknown gems of the stage.

Get Involved!

Welcome to Rover and the third production of our SWEET 16th Season! We are pleased to bring you eight exciting mainstage shows and three play festivals this season, plus bonus holiday shows at Christmas and Valentine’s Day, as well as classes and camps for children and adults!

Make sure to get your season tickets! Not only do season tickets save you a ton of money, we’ve got yet another mix of classic shows you should have heard of and brand new plays, including three exciting festivals that are included with your season subscription! Don’t miss out!

Join us as we grow, won’t you? Volunteers make all of this possible. We are a business. We are an art. We are a community. If you have ever been a part of any of these things, you have the skills we’re looking for! We’re looking for people to join our dynamic Board of Directors, help us write grants, network on Rover’s behalf with local businesses, build sets, join our new guild - if you’ve got a talent, we can probably make use of it!

Just give your contact information to the box office or a roving board member and we’ll take it from there. You can also send an email to Rover’s Artistic Director Carol M. Rice at [email protected] for more information or with kudos, questions, or concerns about anything Rover related, too!

If you don’t have a lot of extra time, you can still help out. Use GoodSearch.com when surfing the web (instead of Google), and Rover gets a penny per search. Use GoodShop when you shop online, and we get a percentage of your purchase! There’s even a nifty toolbar you can download that will tell you when you’re visiting a shopping site that will benefit Rover! With COUPONS!

You can also link your Tom Thumb Reward Card to Rover. Just fill out an application at the store including our account number, 10965, and we’ll get a percentage every time you buy groceries. Every little bit ads up!

Another easy way to support Rover is to visit the businesses whose ads appear in our program, and let them know you’re there because you saw them here! You can even buy an ad for YOUR business! Rates start at just $50 for a quarter page, and we have season ads available, too.

Be a show sponsor! You can sponsor the whole run, be a co-sponsor, or even just sponsor an opening night, closing night, or any special night during the run of any show in our season!

And of course you can donate to Rover, and we don’t just need money (although that’s the BEST way to help and often you can even get your company to match your donation) - you can also donate goods and services!

More than anything though, we love it when you’re here in our audience. We need and appreciate your support and hope to see you again SOON. Don’t forget to make your tax-deductible donations and buy your season tickets!

Who's Who J.R. Bradford (Donny) is pleased to make his return to the stage at Rover. He is a proud alumni of KD College Conservatory of Film and Dramatic Arts and has performed on several stages in the DFW market. J.R. is represented by The Linicomn Agency. Sakura Brunette (crew) is thrilled to be part of her first Rover Dramawerks production! She is a recent graduate of the McMaster Theatre and Film program, "McMaster? I've never heard of that?" Well that's because Sakura is brand new to TX from that place up north with moose, mounties and maple syrup! There she worked on many devised theatre works, and world premieres. Sakura has been recognized for her efforts in Lighting and Costumes by her peers and Artistic Design by the Ontario Sears Drama Festival for the production of Elephant's Graveyard. When she's not at the theatre Sakura loves doing makeup for various events and photo shoots, as well as volunteering her time as a Pet Photographer at the Plano City Animal Shelter. She'd like to thank Jason, the cast and crew and the Rover Dramawerks family for making her feel so welcome in this community. Melissa Couture (Rita) is a native of Dallas and has a BFA from the University of Oklahoma with a minor in piano. She spent 12 years in NYC pursuing Musical Theater where she was seen in the Off Broadway hit Schoolhouse Rock Live, as well as The It Girl. She also toured with The Swiss Family Robinson, sang and danced on The M.S. Maasdam cruise ship, and was a magician’s assistant in a Harry Potter musical in Seoul, South Korea! Melissa began her music/drama teaching career in NYC and has continued it following her 2005 return to Dallas. Some favorite roles include Lexie Richards in The Dixie Swim Club, Belinda in Noises Off, Caroline Bingley in Pride and Prejudice, Edith Potter in The Women and Gingie the gingerbread cookie in Shrek! Melissa is getting her MFA from TWU and has been teaching/directing Theater for 6 years. Melissa lives in McKinney with her wonderful husband Mike and her stepsons, Sam and Reed.

Terrie Justus (props designer) has worked with Rover since 2002, as a performer, property designer, producer, and board member. Her favorite performance was in the title role of Veronica’s Room. She has designed props for numerous productions at Rover, including Cactus Flower, 18 Holes, Out of Sterno, WRENS, and Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Jersey Lily. She has also designed props for Pocket Sandwich Theatre’s productions of Journey to the Center of the Earth, Herbbits, Wizards & Borks, Oh My!, Always a Bridesmaid, Close Encounters of the Dirk Kind, and currently, Triangles. Darcy Koss (stage manager) began working backstage for Rover in 2011, when she worked on Murder at the Orient Burlesque. A few of the shows she has stage managed include The Girls in 509, Bloody Murder, WRENS, Same Time Next Year, Other People's Money, and 18 Holes and she has loved every minute of it. She loves working with the cast and crew and bringing the shows to life. She'd like to thank Jason and Carol for allowing her to be a part of the Rover family. Melissa LeCompte (Louise) is a Drama major and Education minor in her senior year at TWU Denton. This is her first performance with Rover. Her most recent roles were in Shakespeare's Henry V and Beckett's Play, both at the TWU Redbud Theatre. She also played Cecily Pigeon in The Odd Couple at the newly renovated Texan Theatre. At Brookhaven School of Arts she starred as Liz Estrada, in the Lysistrata adaptation, Liz Estrada. In 2011 she received the award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for the 2010-2011 season at the Terrell Actors Playhouse. One of her favorite roles has been as a volunteer teacher for the after school ACE Drama Club at Rivera Elementary in Denton. She thanks Jason for the opportunity to work with this talented group of actors and artists and her family for supporting her artistic endeavors.

Bill Parr (set designer) stepped out of the audience to design for this production. He is a long time Rover Dramawerks follower. Some say he is the reason Rover exists. Don't believe them! Every so often he will leave the comfort of the audience to fill a myriad of roles: design, pour wine, clean bathrooms, and yes even perform. Bill was last seen onstage in Come Blow Your Horn. Jason Rice (director) has been on the Rover board since it was founded and is the current Board President. Some of the plays he has directed for Rover include WRENS, More Fun Than Bowling, Premiere!, Around the World in 80 Days, The Runner Stumbles, and War of the Worlds. Jason has composed music for both live theatre and video, receiving the Aegis Award for his original composition for Matt Kaufman’s film short Willoughby. He has designed sound for such shows as Towards Zero, The Cupcake Conspiracy, Written in Time, The Crowd You’re in With, Morphic Resonance, Mary’s Wedding, The Compleat Works of Wllm Shkspr (abridged), and Night Must Fall, to name a few. He has received awards for acting and sound design, and he has written several custom murder mysteries and one-act plays. As much fun as theater is, Jason’s favorite role is Daddy to Stephen and Scott. “What’s my motivation for ‘Because I said so!’?” Shelby Scott (Trisha) is a young lady who started acting just two years ago. She attends McKinney Boyd High School where she takes theater and dance class. Shelby has achieved many goals as an actor and model, and is currently represented by Exxcel Model & Talent. Rocket Man will be her first play outside of school, where she plays the role of Trisha. Robert Shores (Buck) is thrilled to be back at Rover Dramawerks, having appeared in last year’s Cactus Flower. Most recently he has been seen on stage in The Game's Afoot. Some of his favorite roles and shows he has performed in are Marc Antony in Julius Caesar, Charlie Baker in The Foreigner, and Sanjay in Bollywood Lysistrata. The elusive Robert can also be caught on film in Season 3 of Prison Break, Dealey Plaza the film, and Zugio and the Sunshine Kidz. Jack Wilkinson (lighting designer) is joining in the Rover Dramawerks family with his design for Rocket Man. He has previously designed for Mesquite Community Theatre where he received Best Lighting Design for Inspecting Carol and Forever Plaid. Prior to this, he spent a 25 year design spree in the SF Bay area working with West Bay Opera as well as other companies. So far he is enjoying the Rover group and hopes to be doing more work with them in the future.
