Routing. Routing is the process of selecting paths in a

network along which to send network traffic.

In other way we can say this is the process todirect the packet forwarding between thesource and destination.

It can done by the inter connectednetworking devices such as router, switches, bridges, hubs, firewalls and PCs

router must learn how to get to the remotenetwork with either static routing or dynamicrouting.

Routed protocols. ROUTED PROTOCOLS are nothing more than

data being transported across the networks.Routed protocols include:

    Internet Protocol Telnet

    Remote Procedure Call (RPC)

    SNMP

    SMTP

Novell IPX DECnet Appletalk Banyan Vines Xerox Network System (XNS)

    Types of routing static routing

Administrator manually enters the routes in the router's table.

Remote route details learned by static entry.

Each and every updates must be update for better networkperformance.

High secure and reliable pathway to reach specified remotenetwork

dynamic routing - happens automatically using routing

    protocols.

Routing protocols is the responsible thing for reach remotenetwork.

Automatically learn updatesno need admin knowledge.

    Not reliable like static route.

Dynamic Routing Protocols A routing protocol specifies

how routers communicate with each other, disseminating information that enables themto select routes between any two nodes ona computer network, the choice of the routebeing done by routing algorithms.

Each router has a priori knowledge only ofnetworks attached to it directly.

A routing protocol shares this information firstamong immediate neighbors, and thenthroughout the network.

There are 2 type of dynamic routingprotocols

    1. Interior routing protocols

    Interior Gateway Protocols (IGPs) exchange

routing information within a single routingdomain. Examples of IGPs include:

    OSPF (Open Shortest Path First)

    RIP (Routing Information Protocol)

    IS-IS (Intermediate System to IntermediateSystem)

EIGRP (Cisco's proprietary Enhanced InteriorGateway Routing Protocol)

    2. Exterior Routing Protocols

Exterior routing protocols are used toexchange routing information between

autonomous systems. The routing information passed between

    autonomous systems is calledreachabilityinformation.

    Reachability information is simply information

about which networks can be reachedthrough a specific autonomous system.

    Border Gateway Protocol (BGP)

    Activity:

Students equally grouped according totheir computer knowledge

Each group need to prepare a briefdescription as a assignment about anyone of the IGP

Each group need to send assignment to

teachers mail with in a dead line.

    Aspects:

Pedagogical : student will work as agroup so knowledge sharing, team work

experience and they will get taskcompleting ability with in a certain period.

ICT : Students gain information reveal, email using ability, assignment creating

(softcopy) by using any kind of wordprocessor or presenting software.

    Evaluation:

According to their group assignmenteach assignment will be analyze, correct

and share with all of them

Teacher will provide additionalinformation about IGP

Teacher provide useful link and materials

to student for further information andknowledge
