POLITICS · · ·The triumph of a personality over a party was recorded

in November by the voters of America. A man whose namewas famous throughout the world and which struck terrorinto the hearts of the Nazi armies in the Second World Warbecame the president-elect of the United States. His great.personal attraction precipitated a near deluge of votes in hisfavor. He swept the Solid South with the effectiveness ofGeneral Sherman and his conquering days of 1864. He gath-ered the agricultural areas of the Middle West into the Re-publicancamp. He burned a fiery path through New Englandand the industrial Atlantic states as well as the populousmiddle sections east of the Mississippi. The name Eisenhowerwas on the lips of the voters as they pressed the votingswitches or marked their paper ballots.

Inview of such an overwhelminglandslide for Eisenhower, it is strange to see that the landslide did not extend into theseats of CongreSS, where the Republican party holds a slim Xmas In Flatbushand shaky majority. Perhaps this is the proof that the voters 'Twas de night before Christmasof America selected the man above the party.
