Round Hill Club February 2013
2013 Annual Meeting of the Round Hill Club, Inc. Susan Holey and John Gammage Elected to the Board of Directors
The Annual Meeting of the Round Hill Club, Incorporated was held on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 in the Living Room of the Clubhouse. Club President William A. Nichols welcomed the attendees, acknowledged the members elected to membership over the course of the past year and also read a list of those members or spouses who passed away in 2012. The only order of business before the member-ship was the election Directors to the Class of 2017. Lucy Stitzer, a member of this year’s Nominating Committee, reported that the Committee had recommended a slate which included returning Directors Jacqueline Keeshan, Daniel Mosley and William H. Nickerson and new Directors Susan Holey and John Gammage. Proxy Holder Sarah Greenhill voted the proxies in favor of the slate. The vote was
unanimous. President Nichols then congratulated the two outgoing Directors, Icy Frantz and Michael Mahaffy for their efforts over the past 4 years.
The meeting was then adjourned and all attendees enjoyed a cocktail reception followed by a dinner in the Grill Room.

Allison and Sean Foley welcome their 2nd Child—Kayleigh Lou
After four months of believing their baby would be arriving early, Allison and Sean Foley, RHC’s GC Superintendent, actually had to wait 1 day longer than they originally thought before their second child and first daughter, Kayleigh Lou Foley decided to join her parents and her 28 month old brother, Conner, shown above with the new arrival. Kayleigh was born at the Greenwich Hospital at 5:45 A.M. on the 6th of January. She weighed in at 8 lbs. 9 oz. and 20.5 inches long. Please join all of Sean’s co-workers in wishing a warm welcome to Kayleigh Lou and a hearty congratulations to Allison and Sean!
The grounds crew appreciates your cleaning up after your dogs, but requests that you return the bags to the refuse container located at the parking lot gate.

North American Open Finals Held at Greenwich Country Club
With Steve Scharff on the 15-day disabled list, Round Hill was left with only one entry in this year’s NAO. Assistant Squash Professional Greg McArthur teamed up with James Stout and played well into day four of the tournament. In the quarterfinals, McArthur/Stout met Quick/Jenson. Preston Quick was an assistant at Round Hill several years ago and he definitely felt at home as his team defeated McArthur/Stout to advance to the semi-finals at the Greenwich Country Club. A hearty thank-you goes out to Steve Scharff and the Squash Committee for another brilliant tournament at RHC.
glō Greenwich Open: Quarterfinal Action at the Round Hill Club
Saturday afternoon saw a ton of great squash at the Round Hill Club. It was a nice mix of veterans and new faces squaring off and entertaining the crowds with their incredible athleticism and pinpoint shot making.
#8 Camille Serme (Fra) def #1 Raneem El Weleily The first match of the day saw the tournament's #1 seed, Raneem El Weleily succumb in four games to the tena-cious Camille Serme of France. Raneem came out of the blocks strong hitting numerous winners with her fierce, attacking style of play. Camille came back, slowing the game down, tightening up her drives and not allowing Raneem to shoot and therefore forcing the errors out of her to take the second game. In the third it was a contrast of great change of pace from Serme and impatience from Raneem. Camille took the third 11-7. The fourth really got the crowd on the edge of their seats with both girls trading points all the way to the wire. At 9-9 the girls endured the longest and finest rally of the match, working each other corner to corner waiting for the oppor-tunity to attack, which was followed up by starting the rally again with nice high lobs to regain composure. It looked as though the world #2 was going to hang in after saving 5 match balls but Camille finished the match with a clinical back hand volley drop! UPSET!
#3 Low Wee Wern def #5 Madeline Perry (Irl) While the veteran Perry showed the grit that has made her a perennial top 10 player for over a decade, the young Malaysian proved to be too much and won in a decisive four games.
#7 Kasey Brown (Aus) def Nour El Tayeb (Egy) Kasey Brown, the 2011 Greenwich Open champion seemed to be returning to form as she took out up and coming El Tayeb of Egypt in a hard fought four games. Kasey, who lives and trains locally, simply outlasted El Tayeb and demonstrated the sheer will it sometimes takes to win at the highest level.
#2 Nour El Sherbini (Egy) def. #6 Dipika Pallikal (Ind)
The final match of the day was a seesaw battle between two very talented young players. Both El Sherbini and Pallikal possess exquisite racquet skills and an uncanny ability to send their opponents in the wrong direction. It was El Sherbini who came out on top though as she battled from 2-1 down to take a decisive 5th game victory.
