This will be the first meeting between the two players. No. 3 seed Monfils has won his last 9 matches at Rotterdam, having claimed the title last year. He also reached the final in 2016 (l. to Martin Klizan), which was his most recent appearance prior to last year, meaning he has now won 13 of his last 14 matches at the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament. Monfils is also currently on an 8-match winning streak on the ATP Tour. Last week, he won the Open Sud de France title at Montpellier for a 3rd time in his career. That was his 9th ATP Tour singles title overall. Monfils leads all players in the tournament in first-serve percentage (72%), return games won (15 of 38, 39%), first-serve return points won (60 of 158, 38%), and second-serve return points won (65 of 114, 57%). If Monfils can defend his title, it would be the 7th time the Rotterdam title went to a Frenchman. Monfils would also become the second Frenchman to win two titles at Rotterdam, matching Nicolas Escude, who went back-to-back in 2001 and 2002. French Singles Champions at Rotterdam 2000 – Cedric Pioline (def. Tim Henman) 2001 – Nicolas Escude (def. Roger Federer) 2002 – Nicolas Escude (def. Tim Henman) 2008 – Michael Llodra (def. Robin Soderling) 2017 – Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (def. David Goffin) 2019 – Gael Monfils (def. Stan Wawrinka) 19-year-old Auger-Aliassime is seeking his first ATP Tour singles title, after reaching his first 3 ATP Tour singles finals last season (2 on clay and 1 on grass). This is his first hardcourt final, as well as his first indoor final. By a slim margin, Auger-Aliassime is the youngest Rotterdam finalist in event history. Only one other teenager has ever reached the Rotterdam final: 19-year-old Roger Federer in 2001 (l. to Nicolas Escude). Auger- Aliassime and Federer share a birthday (8 August) but the 2001 Rotterdam final was on 25 February, 9 days later than this year’s final. So, Auger-Aliassime is 9 days younger than Federer was in the 2001 Rotterdam final. A victory over Monfils would give Auger-Aliassime his 3rd win over a Top 10 player. Auger-Aliassime is 2-8 against Top 10 opposition (all of those matches coming last year). His two Top 10 victories both came over Stefanos Tsitsipas last season, at ATP Masters 1000 Indian Wells and London/Queen’s Club. Auger-Aliassime is the first player from Canada to reach the Rotterdam final. The previous best performance by a Canadian at Rotterdam was Milos Raonic’s semi-final run in 2015. Auger-Aliassime leads all players in the tournament in aces (46) and is second to Monfils in first-serve percentage (71%). Three former Rotterdam champions are in Sunday’s doubles final. Henri Kontinen, who won the title last year (with Jeremy Chardy), is back in the final alongside Jan-Lennard Struff. Their opponents are 2018 Rotterdam champions Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut. Mahut also won the doubles title in 2014 and 2016. ROTTERDAM SEMI-FINAL TALKING POINTS

• Defending champion and World No. 9 Gael Monfils is back into the semi-finals of the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament, for the fourth time in his career. Last year’s titlist Monfils also reached the final in 2016 and has now won 12 of his last 13 matches at Rotterdam. Monfils also made the Rotterdam semi-finals in 2009.

• For the second week in a row, Monfils will square off against Filip Krajinovic in a semi-final. They met in the same round last week in Montpellier, where Monfils won in straight sets en route to his 3rd Montpellier title, and his 9th ATP Tour singles title overall. Monfils is currently on a seven-match winning streak on tour.

• Monfils is currently leading all players in the tournament in return games won (13 out of 27, 48%)

• Krajinovic defeated No. 7 seed Andrey Rublev in the quarter-finals. Rublev had won 17 of his last 18 matches

dating back to last year’s Davis Cup Finals, and one of those 17 wins had come over Krajinovic, in the quarter-final round of the 2019 Davis Cup Finals. Krajinovic, though, flipped that result at Rotterdam on Friday.

• Krajinovic has reached three ATP Tour singles finals, but is yet to win his first ATP Tour singles title. A title at

Rotterdam would allow him to join Ugo Humbert (Auckland) on the list of first-time ATP Tour singles champions in 2020. There were 15 first-time singles champions in 2019 – the most in one year since there were 16 in 1999.

• Krajinovic is also seeking his second Top 10 win on Saturday. Krajinovic notched a win in his first-ever match

against a Top 10 player, when he advanced past his compatriot Novak Djokovic via retirement in the 2010 Belgrade quarter-finals. Since then, Krajinovic has gone 0-15 against the Top 10 – including vs. Monfils last week.

• Krajinovic is the first Serbian to reach the Rotterdam semi-finals since Viktor Troicki reached the final four in

2011. Djokovic also made the Rotterdam semi-finals twice, in 2007 and 2010, but he lost to Mikhail Youzhny both times.

• Pablo Carreno Busta continues to have a successful Rotterdam debut, as the Spaniard claimed a quarter-final

win over 18-year-old Jannik Sinner with a final-set tiebreak. Carreno Busta also needed a final-set tiebreak to defeat his countryman Roberto Bautista Agut in the second round.

• Carreno Busta is the first Spanish semi-finalist at Rotterdam since Rafael Nadal’s run to the final in 2009. No

player representing Spain has ever won the Rotterdam title (the first edition of the tournament was held in 1974). The only Spaniards to have reached the Rotterdam final are Juan Carlos Ferrero in 2004 (l. to Lleyton Hewitt) and Nadal in 2009 (l. to Andy Murray).

• Carreno Busta will face a second consecutive #NextGenATP player in the semi-finals: Felix Auger-Aliassime.

The 19-year-old Canadian is into his second semi-final of the season, alongside a run to the final four at Adelaide.

• Auger-Aliassime is just the second Canadian to reach the Rotterdam semi-finals, following Milos Raonic in 2015. Auger-Aliassime would become the first player representing Canada to reach the Rotterdam final if he were to win his semi-final match.

• Auger-Aliassime is currently leading all players in the tournament in aces (30) and first-serve percentage (72%).

ROTTERDAM QUARTER-FINAL TALKING POINTS

• Defending champion and World No. 9 Gael Monfils leads a quarter-final singles line-up of eight players from eight different countries at the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament on Friday.

• Monfils extended his current winning streak to six straight matches with his second-round victory over his fellow Frenchman Gilles Simon on Thursday – which was just his third win in ten meetings with Simon. No. 3 seed Monfils, who won his third Montpellier title on Sunday, has now won 11 of his last 12 matches at Rotterdam.

• Monfils will now face Daniel Evans, who has compiled an 8-3 record on the season thus far. The Brit hit a new career-high ranking of No. 32 on 20 January of this year, after reaching the Adelaide quarter-finals.

• Evans is seeking the fourth Top 10 win of his career against Monfils (the Brit is 3-10 lifetime against Top 10 opposition). However, Monfils won their only previous meeting, at Dubai in 2017.

• 18-year-old Jannik Sinner is into his first quarter-final of the season, and he got there by claiming the first Top 10 win of his career over No. 10 David Goffin in the second round on Thursday. The #NextGenATP player’s only previous match against a Top 10 opponent had been a straight-set loss to Stefanos Tsitsipas in the second round of ATP Masters 1000 Rome last season.

• Sinner makes it three straight years that a wild card has advanced to the quarter-finals or better at Rotterdam. Last year, Stan Wawrinka made it all the way to the final as a wild card. The year before that, Roger Federer went one better, claiming the 2018 title as a wild card and the No. 1 seed.

• Pablo Carreno Busta will be Sinner’s quarter-final opponent, after he ousted his compatriot Roberto Bautista Agut via a final-set tiebreak in the second round. Carreno Busta is the first Spaniard to make it into the Rotterdam quarter-finals since Bautista Agut himself reached the same stage in 2016.

• Aljaz Bedene had been 1-20 against Top 10 players prior to his second-round match against Tsitsipas on Thursday, but the player from Slovenia was able to claim a win over the No. 2 seed in straight sets and reach his second quarter-final of the season.

• Bedene’s victory over World No. 6 Tsitsipas is the best win of his career by opponent’s ranking. The only other Top 10 win of Bedene’s career came over then-No. 7 Kevin Anderson at 2018 ATP Masters 1000 Rome, where Anderson retired after dropping the opening set.

• Canadian teenager Felix Auger-Aliassime joins Sinner in the quarter-finals, making it two #NextGenATP players in the last eight. Moreover, Auger-Aliassime makes it two years in a row where a #NextGenATP Canadian reaches the Rotterdam quarter-finals: Denis Shapovalov made it to the final eight last year before falling to Wawrinka. Bedene will be Auger-Aliassime’s quarter-final opponent, in their first meeting.

• Andrey Rublev’s rich run of form continues, as the Russian has won 17 of his last 18 matches dating back to last year’s Davis Cup Finals. One of those 17 wins came over his quarter-final opponent, Filip Krajinovic – Rublev defeated Krajinovic in the quarter-final round of the 2019 Davis Cup Finals. Krajinovic triumphed in their only other meeting, a first-round clash in Rublev’s hometown of Moscow in 2017.

ROTTERDAM DAY 4 TALKING POINTS

• Thursday’s second-round matches at the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament feature three Top 10 players – Stefanos Tsitsipas, David Goffin, and defending champion Gael Monfils.

• Monfils has won 10 of his last 11 matches at Rotterdam following his first-round win over Joao Sousa on Wednesday. In his last two appearances at Rotterdam, Monfils reached the 2016 final and won the title last year. The No. 3 seed is currently on a five-match winning streak, having won the Montpellier title for the third time in his career on Sunday. That was his 9th career ATP Tour singles title.

• To open the evening session on Thursday, Monfils will face compatriot Gilles Simon in a battle between two of

the most prolific title-winners amongst active Frenchmen. Simon has won seven of their nine meetings overall, and he is a three-time Rotterdam semi-finalist. However, two of Simon’s three losses this season have come to fellow Frenchmen (Jeremy Chardy at Adelaide and Richard Gasquet at Montpellier).

ATP World Tour Singles Titles by French Players (Active) Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 18 Richard Gasquet 15 Gilles Simon 14 Gael Monfils 9 Lucas Pouille 5 Nicolas Mahut 4 Benoit Paire 3

Jeremy Chardy 1 Adrian Mannarino 1 Ugo Humbert 1

• No. 2 seed Tsitsipas claimed his first-ever win at Rotterdam on Tuesday with his 3-set victory over Hubert

Hurkacz. The Greek had lost in the first round of the main draw in 2017 and 2019 (to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Damir Dzumhur respectively), and also fell to Martin Klizan in the 2018 qualifying first round.

• No. 4 seed Goffin also had an inauspicious start to his Rotterdam history, losing his first three matches at the event, in 2013, 2015, and 2016. Since then, though, he has gone 7-3 at Rotterdam, with a run to the final in 2017 and a semi-final showing in 2018. Goffin lost in the first round last year, but his conqueror went all the way to the title – Monfils.

• Vasek Pospisil had attained a total of four Top 10 wins between 2013 and 2018. Since returning from a

six-month-long injury layoff at 2019 Wimbledon, the Canadian has already claimed three more Top 10 victories in that eight-month span, including a first-round win over No. 5 Daniil Medvedev on Wednesday (he also beat No. 9 Karen Khachanov at the 2019 US Open and No. 10 Goffin at Montpellier last week).

• No. 7 seed Andrey Rublev has won 16 of his last 17 matches dating back to last year’s Davis Cup Finals.

This year’s Doha and Adelaide titlist is one of the three Russians in the Top 20 who began the week at Rotterdam, but he is now the last one standing after losses by Medvedev and Khachanov. Rublev takes a 2-0 Tour-level head-to-head lead into his second-round clash with fellow 22-year-old Alexander Bublik.

ROTTERDAM DAY 3 TALKING POINTS

• Four seeds headline Wednesday’s first and second round action, led by No. 1 Daniil Medvedev, No. 3 Gael Monfils, No. 4 David Goffin and No. 6 Roberto Bautista Agut. Monfils arrives in Rotterdam full of confidence after having picked up his 9th career ATP World Tour singles title in Montpellier. The Frenchman is also the defending champion here and has won 9 of his last 10 matches at the ABN Amro Tennis Tournament.

ATP World Tour Singles Titles by French players (Active)

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 18 Richard Gasquet 15 Gilles Simon 14 Gael Monfils 9 Lucas Pouille 5 Nicolas Mahut 4 Benoit Paire 3

Jeremy Chardy 1 Adrian Mannarino 1 Ugo Humbert 1

• Top seed Daniil Medvedev takes on last week’s Montpellier finalist, Canadian Vasek Pospisil. The No. 1 Russian, who celebrated his 24th birthday yesterday, reached the SF here last year before losing to eventual champion Monfils. This will be the second meeting between the two with the man from Moscow winning their only meeting at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Shanghai, China.

• 2017 Rotterdam finalist David Goffin will face local favourite Robin Haase who entered the main draw via a wildcard. The Dutchman will have his work cut out for him as the No. 1 Belgian has a 6-1 Head-to-Head record against him (Goffin won 1R of 2018 Roland Garros coming back from a 2 set deficit).

• After defeating #NextGenATP Canadian Denis Shapovalov on Monday, 28-year-old Grigor Dimitrov faces yet

another #NextGenATP Canadian, World No. 21 Felix Auger-Aliassime. Dimitrov, a former semi-finalist here in 2018, saved all three break points he faced against Shapovalov. Montreal born Auger-Aliassime made his ATP Tour debut at this event in 2018 where he fell in 1R to Filip Krajinovic of Serbia.

• #NextGenATP Jannik Sinner is the youngest player in the draw this week. The 18-year-old Italian was ranked

549 twelve months ago. Ranked No. 79 this week, Sinner is just one position off of his career-high ranking of No. 78 which he reached on 18 November last year. He faces for the very first time Radu Albot who has yet to win a match in 2020 (0-3).

• The oldest player remaining in the draw is 35-year-old Gilles Simon. The Frenchman, a three-time semi-finalist in Rotterdam (2008,2013 & 2015) will face qualifier Mikhail Kukushkin from Kazakhstan. Simon has won all three of their previous encounters.

• It will be an all-Spanish affair between No. 6 seed Roberto Bautista Agut and Pablo Carreno Busta. Bautista

Agut has a 9-1 record so far this year, having won all six of his matches at the ATP Cup in Australia without dropping a single set. Carreno Busta is 4-3 in 2020 and is making his first ever appearance this week in Rotterdam.

ROTTERDAM DAY 2 TALKING POINTS

Three seeds headline Tuesday’s first round action, led by No. 2 Stefanos Tsitsipas, No. 5 Fabio Fognini and No. 7 Andrey Rublev. Tsitsipas is looking for his first win in Rotterdam (0-2), Fognini is making his Rotterdam debut and Rublev returns after reaching the quarter-finals two years ago.

#NextGenATP Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime is first up on Centre Court against Jan-Lennard Struff, who won their only previous meeting 6-1, 6-4, last month in the ATP Cup in Brisbane. Auger-Aliassime has climbed from No. 168 in his Rotterdam debut two years ago to No. 21 in the FedEx ATP Rankings. The No. 34-ranked Struff is the No. 2 German, one spot off his career-high which he achieved on 1 July 2019.

Fognini takes on No. 3 Russian Karen Khachanov for the third time after they split their two meetings in China

last year. Fognini has nine ATP Tour titles and three of his 10 runner-up results have come indoors in Russia (2012, 2017 St. Petersburg; 2016 Moscow). His lone indoor title came on clay in 2018 Sao Paulo. Khachanov is looking for his first win in Rottterdam after losing in the first round the past three years.

2020 ATP Tour Wins Leaders – Rublev is second on the ATP Tour in match wins (11) and he opened the

season with back-to-back titles in Doha and Adelaide, the first player to win titles in the first two weeks since Dominik Hrbaty in 2004. He plays Nikoloz Basilashvili, who has won two of their previous three meetings. W-L 1. Novak Djokovic 13-0 2. Andrey Rublev 11-1 3. Roberto Bautista Agut 9-1 4. Gael Monfils 8-2 Rafael Nadal 8-3 6. Six players tied with 7 wins

Birthday Boys – Hubert Hurkacz celebrates his 23rd birthday Tuesday and Daniil Medvedev, who plays his first round match (vs. Pospisil) on Wednesday, turns 24.

Tsitsipas, the reigning Nitto ATP Finals champion, is looking for his first win in Rotterdam after first round losses in 2017 and last year. He is coming off a third round showing at the Australian Open (l. to Raonic).

Hurkacz was one of 15 first-time ATP Tour winners last season with his title in Winston-Salem and the Pole is

No. 29 in the FedEx ATP Rankings, one spot off his career-best. He beat No. 4 Thiem in the ATP Cup in Sydney last month after compiling a 4-6 record vs. Top 10s last season.

Local wild card Tallon Griekspoor is making his fourth main draw appearance (2-3) and he’s looking to reach

the second round for the third straight year. The No. 2 Dutchman has posted his biggest career wins here over No. 13 Wawrinka in 2018 and No. 11 Khachanov last year. He plays No. 39 Filip Krajinovic for the first time.

On Court 1, Frenchmen Gregoire Barrere and Benoit Paire are in action. Barrere qualified into the main draw

for the first time and he takes on Alexander Bublik. Paire holds a 4-3 advantage against Aljaz Bedene in their FedEx ATP Head 2 Heads but the Slovenian won the last two meetings in 2019.

ABN AMRO WORLD TENNIS TOURNAMENT TALKING POINTS

• Rotterdam’s ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament, the first ATP 500 event of the 2020 season, boasts 10 of the Top 20 players in the FedEx ATP singles rankings. World No. 5 Daniil Medvedev and World No. 6 Stefanos Tsitsipas lead the field as the top two seeds.

• Defending champion Gael Monfils is the No. 3 seed, and the World No. 9 is heading straight from Montpellier, where he won his third Open Sud de France title and his ninth ATP Tour singles title overall on Sunday. Monfils is 16-7 at Rotterdam, having also reached the final in 2016 and the semi-finals in 2009.

• No. 4 seed David Goffin makes it four Top 10 players in the Rotterdam singles draw. Goffin picked up the

second win of his career over then-World No. 1 Rafael Nadal in the Final 8 of the ATP Cup last month.

• #NextGenATP player Jannik Sinner is the youngest player in the field at age 18. The 2019 Next Gen ATP Finals champion was ranked No. 549 one year ago, but he is now inside the Top 80. The Italian is joined in the main draw by two other players under 21: Canadian stars Felix Auger-Aliassime and Denis Shapovalov.

• Two players with multiple Rotterdam doubles titles feature in this year’s doubles draw. 43-year-old Nenad

Zimonjic, who is playing alongside Tsitsipas as a wild card team, has won in Rotterdam four times and holds a 24-11 win-loss record at the event. Nicolas Mahut, who has won three of the last six Rotterdam doubles titles, is also in the mix. Mahut is partnering Pierre-Hugues Herbert, with whom he won the 2018 championship.
