I would like to offer my sincere wishes

for a happy and prosperous New Year

to everyone aboard Marine Corps Air

Station New River. I hope each of you

had a wonderful holiday season and was

able to spend well-deserved time off

with family and friends.

As the Commanding Officer of

Marine Corps Air Station New River, I

could not be more appreciative for your

commitment to this Air Station and

the United States Marine Corps. I am

awed by your selflessness, devotion to

duty, and fighting spirit that prove your

commitment to protecting the values of

this great nation.

This past year was challenging and

filled with a number of major projects

and events, and you have risen to each

challenge with the honor, courage, and

commitment that our nation expects of

its Marines.

From rescuing a downed Air Force

pilot from the clutches of the enemy to

providing aid to victims of hurricane

Sandy, New River Marines, Sailors,

civilians, and families worked together

to overcome many obstacles and

successfully accomplish an assortment

of missions.

Not only did you contribute greatly

to the local community in 2012, but

you also made your mark across the

globe in places like Libya, Guatemala,

Afghanistan, the Horn of Africa, and the

greater Mediterranean region. For those

of you who will forward deploy in the

upcoming year, whether as a war fighter

or humanitarian, know that you do so with

my commitment, and that of my staff,

to provide your units the best support

possible for mission success. Each role

is vital as we continue to prove to our

nations friends and foes around the world

that the dedication, professionalism, and

operational excellence of United States

Marines and Sailors are unequaled.

Once again, a new year finds many of

our Marines and Sailors serving overseas

and in harms way around the globe. But

for those who work day-in and day-out

to keep this Air Station operating, know

that you too are making a difference, and

this country is indebted to you for your

service and many accomplishments here.

In addition to our active-duty war

fighters, New River would not thrive

without the dedication of our Civilian

Marines. Many of the improvements and

additions seen aboard the air station in

2012, including a new fitness center and

fantastic renovations to the Officers

Club, are remarkable.

You had a large hand in these

accomplishments, and I thank you for

your efforts and hard work. But, we are

not finished. We look forward, with great

anticipation, to the completion of many

construction and renovation projects

that will enhance training and mission

readiness, and improve quality of life

aboard the air station.

From the ongoing renovations to

the Enlisted Club and movie theater

to the completion of the new sports

complex, 2013 will bring a number of

great opportunities to Marines and their

families. Hangar renovation and new

construction projects will continue to

be seen across the air station, but this

progress would not be possible without

the complete dedication of our civilian

personnel. To all civilians who serve

aboard New River, I sincerely thank you.

Finally, to our families and friends; we

give you great thanks, as you sustain us in

all we do. We especially thank those who

have been touched by tragedy during the

past year, and we pray for their strength

and comfort. Marine families are an

infinite source of pride and inspiration,

and they have dedicated themselves to

lives of selfless sacrifice for country and

Corps.

Your sacrifices allow the rest of

America to live in peace and security. Let

this thought strengthen your resolve as

your Marines continue to take the fight

to our nations foes.

I look forward to 2013 with excitement

and confidence, knowing that our New

River team is up to any and all tasks

assigned to us by the leaders of this great

nation. My confidence is solidified in

witnessing your hard work and dedication

each and every day.

To all who make up Team New

River; thank you again for all you do to

ensure our success. I, in turn, pledge my

best effort to each of you -- today and
