Toi a Rangi EOTC week.
The students impressed us with the way they respected themselves and others and were responsible for their actions. We had 4 full days with activities: Monday-Arts, Tuesday-Te Puia with Hangi lunch, Thursday-Lake Okeraka and Friday-Hamilton doing laser strike, ten pin bowling and hydoslide/swimming. We would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to the wonderful parents who assisted on these days to ensure our students were able to participate safely and have fun. Fun is exactly what we had, the students worked extremely well together and proved this to us with the hard work that that they put in to this year regarding the 3Rs. Seeing the students in these situations was a pleasure and made the whole experience enjoyable for all involved. Congratuations Toi a Rangi team, you guys are amazing. All students have a completed art project using either clay, mosaic, photography or painting as evidence of their first day, please ensure they pick them up.

hunger games trilogy. We
have completed lots of
activities like puzzles,
mazes and word finds.
We have also completed
three visualisation charts.
Water experiments Over terms 3 and 4 T1
have worked on water
experiments. Below are
the most successful
experiments.
Below is some of T1’s
conservation artwork.
Our holiday stories T1 have rewritten the
highlight of their term 3
holidays. Below are
photos of final outcomes
from students.
The Hunger Games:
Catching Fire On the 21st of November,
T1 went to the movies to
watch The Hunger Games
2. We watched the movie
to compare it to the book.
Year 8 Graphic Tech This term the year 8’s in
T1 went to Graphic Design
for Technology, In
Graphics we had to do a
project of our choice. It
needed to contain a title
page and a name page.

Lucky enough, two boys from our
class, Joe and Draezel were in the
Bay Elite Athletics team. Joe com-
peted in the 1500 and 300 running
events and Draezel in long jump.
They did extremely well and gave
their best. Great effort guys!
During the last couple of terms it has been amazing having yr7’s in class with yr8’s Because it helped me with my leadership and I gained more confidence. I’m proud of our class Because we collaborate at participate 99.9% of the time. I’m positive that our yr7’s will stand up and be the new leaders of Tekanawa in 2013 Chardamay Tekani T2 Year 8

Sustainability & Financial literacy
Last term we started our unit on personal and whanau environmental sustainability.
We studied what this term means on a global, community, and personal level.
We have identified small changes we can all make such as using lunch boxes instead
of glad wrap. Walking, biking, or using a scooter instead of coming to school by car.
Turning off our electrical appliances when we are not using them, especially our
phone, ipod, ipad, chargers and game consoles.
We have also been studying financial literacy, Brody from ANZ came and talked to us about
“being good” with money.
We have studied career paths and what the educational requirements and costs are for
different career paths.
We have worked out income and budgets. The pros and cons of debt and interest
earnings, and the difference between needs and wants—this proved very interesting.
Well done to our students who have achieved badges this year. We have earned 3Rs badges, academic badges and technology badges. Absent: Zach Petelo
We have now finished our Chinese Language Studies for the year. Thanks to Huimin for all her hard work this year. Everyone has enjoyed her lessons and learning a new language and culture.
To round off our fire inquiry we have
been testing the flammability of a range
of materials and substances in the
Science room. In these experiments we
tested commonly worn and used
materials.
Some of the materials,
before and after heat,
we were surprised how
easily they melted.
And burn they did, we
were a little concerned at
how many clothing
materials melted as they
burned—not good on the
skin.
Wednesday 20 November was athletics day. It was fantastic to see so many students showing the 3R’s when competing in a range of events from discus to high jump as well as non-competitive events such as the egg and spoon race. Congratulations to all of our winning

He mihi matakuikui, he mihi matakoakoa
ki ngā mātua me ngā tauira o te kura takawaenga o Rotorua,
To all the families of the students at Rotorua Intermediate, I would like to let whānau know about a new rumaki (Year 9 class)
that we are offering at Rotorua Lakes High School in 2014; subject to enrolments. This class will start a pathway towards
achieving NCEA Level 1 Te Reo Māori in Year 9 and students will have the opportunity to learn in a supportive kaupapa Māori
environment. The curriculum will be delivered through the medium of te reo Māori (rumaki) for some subjects and English in-
struction for the core subjects. Entry to this class will include a short oral and written assessment in te reo Māori with the HOD
Māori and students will need to demonstrate a commitment to tikanga Māori and speaking te reo Māori. If you would like to
enrol your child in this class, or if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me at school on 3456124 or
Ngā mihi nui,
Tania Cliffe
