fundraising and advocacy tool• Purple crocus chosen to symbolise the dye painted on the

fingers of the children who have been immunized

How it works?

• Highly successful in raising funds and advocacy :

• Raising funds:

• average donation / crocus ranges from US$1.50 (UK) to

US$5.00 (Canada)

• Over US$750 raised in just 2 hrs outside one local hospital

• Advocacy:

• Highly visible as they are so attractive and distinctive

• walking adverts triggering countless conversations about

Rotary and the End Polio Now Campaign (average donationper crocus = 5 children immunized)

• Long lasting impact as they are worn as clothing accessories

• Highly effective advocates for the Campaign reaching all levels

of society, creating mass awareness and supporting lobbying

to governments by demonstrating the breadth and depth of

support for polio eradication

• Members of the public make a donation to support the

End Polio Now Campaign and receive a fabric crocus inreturn




Tried and Tested• Effectiveness of the Crocuses has been Proved by RIBI

•Rotary Day 2012 – trial order by RIBI District 1120 - 25,000crocuses. Proved to be a runaway success.

• National Roll out for Rotary Day 2013 – 150,000 crocuses

• Aim to establish the Crocus as the public emblem of Rotary

Day

• Crocuses are Spreading Internationally• Orders from the US, Canada, Nigeria

• Fabric Flowers well established as charity fundraising

and awareness building tools:

• Remembrance Poppies (US, Canada, UK and Commonwealth) – 90 yrs (p.a.: 100 million + poppies raising US$100 million +)

half RI’s annual fundraising target for the End

conversations about Rotary and the End Polio

What you can Do?

•Prove to Yourself that it Works:• Wear your crocus and see the reaction you get and

how many conversations it triggers

• Give the samples to your family and friends and ask

them to do the same

• Trial the crocuses in a few Districts and then

when you see it works, roll it out

• Help to establish the crocus as the

international symbol of the End Polio Now

Campaign and as a major fundraising andadvocacy tool
