PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

TT he Club held its 1st fireside

on 18 th August 2016 which was successfully held at the

home of Rotarian Sarky and Devi.

They were both very hospitable hosts and their promised nasi-lemak

was delightful. Our young and charming Interact Chair Rotarian

Shu Yi very ably organized this function which attracted also IPP Dato’Muslim.

This 1 st Fireside was especially useful to our newer

Rotarians like Angela, and a refresher course for our more seasoned Rotarians like PP Gary, Robert Tan. Our reliable and knowledgeable PDG Dr Paul Lee conducted

this important and informative session which focused on the roles and duties of Rotarian Advisers in the Youth

Service. With our 8 Interact Clubs, our Advisers play an important role as they are the liaison between our Club,

the Schools, and the Interact Clubs.

One basic requirement is of course our Rotarian Advisers are committed to attend meetings and

activities, report on monthly status regarding the health and activities of the various Interact Clubs. Pudu Rotarian’s presence is a form of encouragement and

motivation for our young school children. There are some basic guidelines for our Teacher Advisers as well

as Rotarians, one of which is that one must avoid crossing the line to interfere with the Interact leaders

decisions and plans unless it is not in line with the objectives of the Interact Clubs or our Rotary Ideals.

I like to express my appreciation to PDG Dr Paul Lee

for giving us all the useful tips and vital information on the various aspects and duties as Rotarian Advisers in the Youth Service. My thanks also to Rotarian Sarky

and Ann Devi for pampering us with a most delicious homemade ―nasi lemak‖ dinner

II n ancient Greece, Socrates was reputed to hold knowledge in high esteem.

One day an acquaintance met the great philosopher and said, "Do you know what I just heard about your friend?" "Hold on a minute", Socrates replied. "Before telling me anything I'd like you to pass a little test. It's called the Triple Filter Test." "Triple filter?" "That's right", Socrates continued. "Before you talk to me about my friend, it might be a good idea to take a moment and filter what you're going to say. That's why I call it the triple filter test. The first filter is Truth. Have you made absolutely sure that what you are about to tell me is true?" "No," the man said, "Actually I just heard about it and ..." "All right", said Socrates. "So you don't really know if it's true or not. Now let's try the second filter, the filter of Goodness. Is what you are about to tell me regarding my friend something good?" "No, on the contrary." "So,‖ Socrates continued, "you want to tell me something bad about him, but you're not certain it's true. There's one filter left: the filter of Usefulness. Is what you are about to tell me regarding my friend going to be useful to me?" "No, not really." "Well", concluded Socrates, "if what you want to tell me is neither true nor good nor even useful, why tell it to me at all?" This story sounds familiar to the principles of the Four Way Test. However we sometimes unintentionally miss out the essence of the Four Way Test, which is, of the things WE THINK, SAY OR DO. 49TH DISTRICT INTERACT CONFERENCE

49th District Interact Conference Rotary International District 3300 24 Nov to 27 Nov 2016 PLKN MANTIN SEREMBAN Interact Rotary Host Club : Rotary Club of Senawang This leaflet comes in two sections : Sections A-Important information; Section B-Registration form. You are to return Section B duly filled and signed to the Secretariat. Any incorrect or misleading information given may render the registration invalid. Section A - Important information Conference Time / Date : 1130hrs, 24 NOV 2016 to 1400hrs, 27 NOV 2016. Objective of Conference : To provide Leadership Training and Motivation to Interactors. Registration fee : Ringgit Malaysia Two Hundred and Fifty (RM 250) per participant which includes accommodation for three (3) nights and all meals (breakfast, coffee break, lunch, tea break, dinner and supper) throughout the conference. (All Teacher Advisers who will be joining the programme will also be charged RM 250). Insurance for participants to travel from their home to Seremban Bus Terminal 1 and back has to be covered by the sponsoring Rotary Club. Insurance for participants from SEREMBAN BUS TERMINAL 1 to PLKN MANTIN and from PLKN MANTIN to SEREMBAN BUS TERMINAL 1 will be covered by RC.Senawang. Registration Period : 16 August to 10 November 2016 on first come first serve basis. Dress Code : All Interactors / participants to wear T-shirts provided at the conference. Please wear black or dark blue pants / track suits and sport shoes at all times. Slippers, sandals, sleeveless shirts, miniskirts, shorts, etc. will not be permitted during the conference. Name tags given on registration day, must be worn at all times. Hand phones can only be used during break & meal intervals and in accommodation areas. Participants must attach one (1) passport size photograph together with registration form for making name tag. Participants must bring along toiletries and slippers (for bathroom use) Blankets for personal use. All participants must attend all sessions and must strictly observe punctuality. Transport / Travelling arrangement : Participants are to arrange their own transportation to and from the Conference Venue and are to arrive ONLY on the morning of 24 NOV 2016. Feeder buses will be provided from Seremban Bus Terminal 1, at intervals of one (1) hour starting from 0800hrs to 1400hrs 24th Nov Morning .
