PRESIDENT'S MESSAGEDear Southerner,

As I pen down to write

this first message as

the President of this

p r e s g i o u s c l u b I

re a l i ze d t h at i t ’ s

already one weekly

meeng down and we

are close to the fund

raiser program.

But I am simply awed by the support, the

members have extended so far and I am

confident that FLIGHT 2018-19 will be a smooth

ride.

Our fund raising team lead by Rtn. Sridharan is

working hard for the success of the program

“MIND IT” by Mentalist Kedar from Mumbai on

4th August 2018 and I request for the

parcipaon of all our members in the program.

This Rotary year seems to have begun with a

bang, thanks to the commitment of our staunch

benefactor M/s CAMS, of almost Rs 21 lakh for

various projects this year. I am indeed grateful to

them for their support year a�er year to our

club.

August 19th is our Onam family parcipaon

event and the team led by Rtn. Shyamala is

working on it. Needless to say that we will have

an excing program and wonderful Sadhya.

The project “Caring for Lile Heart” has gained

significant reach amongst the other clubs in the

district and it is running with excessive support.

“Project Selvi” is another iniave taken up

during this year and many Southerners have

confirmed their financial support for the

project. Thanks to all those who have confirmed

support.

Congratulaons to Rtn. Magdoom and Team for

his wonderful term as President during 2017-18

and I hope he will connue to contribute to the

acvies of the club as IPP.

As Rotary Club of Madras South enters its 59th year of service,

Rtn. K Saravanan was installed as the President of the Club, taking over from

President Rtn. Magdoom Mohamed. At the installaon funcon held on 26th

June 2018 at Savera Hotel, the President and his team of Directors formally

took charge for the RY 2018-2019. The new team has lined up an array of

acvies that includes a fund raiser programme 'Mind it' on 4th August (see

poster on back page). Project Selvi for empowering the girl child is another

key project for the year launched at the funcon. The 'Caring for Lile Hearts'

project iniated last year will be connued with more

surgeries lined up during the course of this year. In fact

President Saravanan in his acceptance speech menoned

that this project provided him with the inspiraon to devise

the club theme for his year: “Touch Hearts – Impact Lives”.

Rtn. Elumperiyar took charge as the Secretary of the Club

PLATINUM AWARD FOR OUR CLUB

VALEDICTORY FUNCTION AT OUR KATTUR CENTRE

Our Community Learning Centre at Kaur in Thirupporur, now

managed by Rotary Club of Chennai Upscale, offers free

vocaonal training to the villagers of Kaur and nearby places.

This year, around 40 people benefied from the weekend

classes in tailoring and basic IT skills. The cerficates for those

who successfully completed the tailoring course were

distributed at a Valedictory funcon held on 23rd June at the

Centre. During the event, a couple of saplings were also

planted in the premises.

On 2nd June, we dedicated a spanking new science lab for

junior secon at MCN School, T.Nagar. The lab was

inaugurated by DGE Rtn. Chandramohan, in the presence

of Mr. M Gajendran, Correspondent of the School. The

project was made possible thanks to the sponsorship of

Acsys Investments Pvt. Ltd. The lab will benefit around

300 students of the school.

SCIENCE LAB INAUGURATED AT MCN SCHOOL

AC FAST TRACK COURSE VALEDICTORY The second batch of our fast track AC Servicing and

Entrepreneurship course at Anna University for the Rotary

year 2017-18 concluded with a valedictory funcon held on

20th June 2018. A batch of six-month course and two

batches of one-month fast track courses were conducted at

the Centre for Entrepreneurship Development at Anna

University. Dr.Karunamurthy, Chairman of Faculty of

Mechanical Department, parcipated as the chief guest at

the funcon. This course has been conducted for the last 22

years by our Club and has given gainful employment to

several needy students.

Our Club received the Planum award for overall performance at the District Awards Nite for the Rotary year 2017-2018, held on Saturday 30th June 2018.It was a proud moment for the Club when our all round performance throughout the year was recognised in the category of Clubs with more than 71 members. Overall, our Club received 24 awards for meritorious service in various avenues of service, including Bronze for Club Service, Silver for Community Service Development, Bronze for Community Service Health, and for contribuon to The Rotary Foundaon. Southerners congratulate Rtn PP Magdoom and his team for this sterling performance.

WEEKLY MEETINGS IN JUNE

Ann Kala Rajasekhar, spouse of our member Rtn. Rajasekhar was

installed as the Chairman of Inner Wheel District 323 at a gala

funcon held on 28th June 2018 at Hotel Savera. She takes over from

the outgoing Chairman Padma Preetha Sumanth and will hold office

from 1st July 2018 to 30th June 2019. Inner Wheel District 323

comprises of more than 50 Clubs in Chennai, Kancheepuram and

Vellore. Kala is a member of Inner Wheel Club of Madras South where

spouses of many of our Rotarians are members. Inner Wheel Club of

Madras South is the first Inner Wheel Club started in Tamil Nadu. Our

hearty congratulaons to Ann Kala.

Our club got formally associated with East

Eden Foundaon when PP Rtn Asha Marina

took over as the President in July 2016. We

have been providing Annadhanam to the

inmates of EEF every month on a Saturday

and have completed 24 Annadhanams so far.

During the last Rotary year, we contributed

Rs 1,80,000 for this noble cause which came

enrely as donaon from our members.

President Saravanan has decided to carry the

Annadhanam will be on Saturday, 21st July.
