The intention was for me to be there after George and I flew back from Perth, but I didn't make it. George wasn't feeling too good so I thought it better to get him home and tucked up in bed. By all reports it was a great night. Thank you to those members who went along also. Monday night we had Niall Boyle as out Guest Speaker. Niall is the new Editor at the Kalgoorlie Miner. It was interesting to hear his journey in the world of journalism. This coming Monday our speaker is Norman Baker CEO of the Goldfields Esperance Development Commission. It will also be the last meeting for Edward Brennan before he heads off to Gladstone. However, before then we have not one but two sausage sizzles. Saturday is at Retravision. The last day before Mothers Day so hopefully there will be a lot of people doing their last minute shopping. We still need some more members to help out. Then on Sunday it's off up to Karlkurla Park for the Mother's Day Classic. There are in excess of 280 registered participants with the expectation that their will be more on the day. So it will be a busy two hours. Next weekend 25 May is District Assembly. I am sorry I am still unable to advise the venue as District have not finalised the venue as yet. The time for the assembly is 11am - 5pm. All directors are expected to attend. All members are encouraged to attend. Please let me know if you will be attending for catering purposes. The Battle of the Brains Quiz Night is now under 30 days away so it means all hands on deck to seek prizes for the night. So each meeting we will spend time talking about the night and working through the tasks to be completed. The success of the night will depend on us all contributing in the lead up and on the night. With the approval of the Board the date for Changeover has been changed to Saturday 19 July so please note the changed date in your diary. Enjoy the rest of your week whilst you Engage Rotary, Change Lives. FROM PRESIDENT ESTHER ...

    President Esther

Firstly, thank you to Cherie for standing in for me last Saturday whilst Psychs on Bikes were in Kalgoorlie-Boulder.

In Cte dIvoire, It Takes a Village The polio eradication fight has many faces, and everyone from mother to health minister is essential.

You may not know the people pictured in the photos, but you know the results of their work: the immunization of children against the poliovirus. Each one plays a role, and together they are the framework that supports the polio eradication effort. We met some of the estimated 100,000 individuals in Cote dIvoire involved in the fight against the disease during that countrys National Immunization Days in April.

More than 26,000 health workers and volunteers immunized 7.5 million children over three days in the country, whose last reported case was in July 2011. Cte dIvoire is at risk of importing the poliovirus because of its proximity to Nigeria, one of the final three polio-endemic countries. Immunizations must continue everywhere, because we are all vulnerable until the world is polio-free. Diana Schoberg
