Transcript of Rossville State School
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Wow! The end of term one is here already. It has been a busy term with
much achieved across the whole school. Our prep students have all started
settling in and learning important school routines, crucial phonics and early
literacy and numeracy skills. Year 1-3 have been working hard to apply their
mathematical and literacy skills across the curriculum as they investigate
number, fantasy narratives and saving our planet in science. HASS and
Technology continue across the semester and we are looking forward to
seeing the children continue to explore and develop. In the senior class the
students have worked hard to apply a range of literacy and numeracy skills.
They have contributed to a digital discussion board to develop their
comprehension of the fantasy narrative, they have investigated and written
their own chapter of a narrative, exploring character traits and use of
language to engage an audience. In HASS they continue to explore the
changes that have occurred in Australia’s history as well as the development
of our Federation and parliament.
On top of the fantastic learning in the classroom, the students have had the
opportunity to engage in a variety of sports this term with both AFL and
Cricket coming to our school. This has promoted important gross motor skills, team play and exposure to
different types of sports. The whole school worked hard to train for cross-country. The kids did a fantastic
effort showing resilience and GRIT to take on a challenging course.
Cross-Country
A massive thank you to the parents who helped organise our Cross-Country menu and run the canteen for the
day. This takes a huge amount of work and preparation. Special thanks to Sue and Willow for a huge effort on
the day. The lunch was amazing and feedback from all the schools was how good the food was. It was fantastic
to see so many kids, parents and staff from across the cluster here at our lovely school. The feedback has
been positive with some minor changes for next year. If you have any suggestions on how to make the day even
better please let me know.
P&C news
Our dedicated P&C came in on Sunday for a working bee. Thanks to the extra effort from school staff who
dedicated their time for the working bee. It was a big day and our school
looked great. A big thank you to all who helped. The AGM is this afternoon
at 5pm at the Lions Den. Please join us.
Stay safe these holidays and enjoy the Easter break with the family

Happy Easter to all our families. For many of us, Easter is all about the traditions we share with family. That makes it a perfect time to involve yourself in family customs and make special memo-ries together these holidays.
Our students are well settled into the school year and I am looking forward to talking with families in the first week back after the holidays. It is a time to discuss your child’s progress in the first semester of the school year.
In Term 2 we will welcome Margie back to the Junior Class. Jane is taking some time off during the second term, and we will also begin a new whole-school approach to literacy. Promoting Literacy De-velopment or PLD has a broad three skill focus, which includes structured synthetic phonics, oral language skills and physical responses. For students to be truly literate they need to be able to speak well, interpret what they are hearing, and transfer all of this information into written lan-guage. Lots more fun and learning ahead.
The Junior students have worked hard during the first term of the school year and have earnt a well-deserved break. I hope each one of you enjoy lots of special moments during the Easter break and I will be super ‘egg-cited’ to hear all your holiday stories when you return for Term 2. Have an ‘egg-stra’ Happy Easter! Hope it brings you smiles by the dozen!
Senior class
In the mornings we have changed our usual schedule so that the first thing we do is Number of
the day. Number of the day is drawn up in a square with a number in the centre, this number
usually varies from fractions, decimals and whole numbers. In the 4 squares are challenging
questions that we must write and answer on our whiteboards. This is usually followed by think
mentals and then a times table sheet that must be completed within 5 minutes (on Wednesdays
we do Blast Offs).
We have started with reading groups and are separated into our reading levels. One group is put
with Miss Green, one with Mike and another with Mr Rivett.
In class we have been working hard on finishing off our assessments before the end of term. All
of the students have finished Language and Maths as well as our Science (HASS is a subject
that goes over 2 terms so we are still working on it)
As most of you will know this week was Cross Country, it was a fun filled day with a lot of work
put into hosting it. The food (as feedback has said) and I quote “the food was incredible.” Thank
you to everyone who came out and participated in the running or helped us beat Bloomfield in the
war cries.
This week in BOOST we were practising tying a clove hitch (which is one of 3 knots that would
be helpful). We learnt how to tie the clove hitch in 2 different ways which as we were told would
come in handy for when we are building our raft next term.
You probably have guessed, but next term the year 6’s will be writing up the Senior Class part in
the newsletter. This week I was the first person to write it up, but we will be more organised
next term with a proper schedule.
Have a fabulous week
Molly
