I want to thank TJ Huitt for his superb help and Jenn and Melissa from the Wildflower Lodge Assisted Living for their help. It was much appreciated. On May 20th in Baker City several of us had the privilege to play at Nellie Langlitz’ celebration of life. She was 107 years old. It was a nice service and many people came to pay tribute and last respects to her family. Thank you, Les and Evelene Haynes, and Bob Hunt for being there with me. Nellie was the oldest member of the BMOTFA ever that I know of. She was the Baker County's Director for 25 years and was inducted into the "Hall of Fame" in 2000. Her husband, Walt was the 3rd President of the BMOTFA and her brother-in-law, Albert was the 5th President and was inducted into the "Hall of Fame" in 1999. We appreciate the Langlitz family for all the support they have given over the years. They were members at the start in 1969. Gary and Diane Langlitz, Nellie's son and daughter in law are still members and attend the Baker Co. shows. Sumpter, Saturday May 27th. With so many things going on we elected not to take our trailer to Sumpter for this show. We loaded everything into the pickup and left mid-morning Saturday. When we hit Sumpter and the school house, Bob Hunt along with Les and Evelene Haynes were waiting and helped us unload. We found that they had the PA system and the room all set up and ready to go at show time - 1:00 p.m. We had GREAT entertainment and music. I may be partial to Sumpter because I really like to go there and the weather was beautiful but we really did have some of the greatest music around. But then I could say that about every show we have. I would like to thank John Moon for coming and playing his bass at the 1pm show. Also am glad that Laura Morin and her family, The Misty River and Friends Band, brought a bass and played it at the 6 p.m. show. The Misty River and Friends Band consist on Laura, Larry and their two boys and mother and friend. Sounded great. Bobby and Judy Stevens had not planned to come but they did! Played at both shows. Thanks for making the show a success. Here is a little thought I pass out at shows. A marketing flier used by the Canadian Red Cross gives perspective: "If you have food in your fridge, clothes on your back, a roof over your head and a place to sleep, you are richer than 75 percent of the world. Here is a little thought I

pass out at shows. A

If you have never experienced the danger of battle,

the agony of imprisonment or torture or the horrible

pangs of starvation, you are luckier than 500 million

people alive and suffering.

If you can read this message, you are more fortunate

than 3 billion people in the world who cannot read

at all. Consider yourself blessed.”

WALLOWA COUNTY

Happy June, everyone! I think summer is

finally here!

Like many of you, I have been consumed with

gardening. It's so nice to be getting things in the

ground! I do, however, have to take a break from

playing in the dirt and get everything ready for the

next fiddle show at the Hurricane Creek Grange in

Joseph on June 10! The grange ladies will be fixing

up a delicious chicken dinner, available for just $8,

so plan on joining us

for dinner just before

the show! The

Grange Hall is

located at 63081

Hurricane Creek

Road, in Joseph.

Dinner is at 5PM and

the show starts at

6PM.

There are plenty of other things going on in

Joseph to keep you entertained on that day too! The

Oregon Mountain Cruise Car Show will take place

on Main Street in Joseph from 9AM to 3PM, with

over 200 classic, antique, hot rod, and custom cars

to view! It's touted to be one of the best little car

shows in the Northwest!

Also, for the quilters in your life, the Annual

Wallowa Mountain Quilters Guild will feature over

150 quilts at the Joseph High School, at 400 Wm. E.

Williams Ave. in Joseph. The quilt show takes

place on the same day and time as the car show. The

Joseph Farmer's Market will be going that day too,

right near the car show, so if you're looking for

some fresh produce, goat cheese, locally produced

meats, plants, or crafts, check it out! Just a heads-

up… if you happen to be up here on July 1st,

Homemade Jam Band will be playing at the Joseph

Farmer's Market from 11AM to 1PM!

You can still register for the Wallowa Fiddle

Tunes Camp. The camp will be held at the

Wallowa School, July 9-14. Registration is $200;

lunches are an additional $62 for the week. You

can register online, on the Wallowa Valley Music

Alliance website.

camp-2/camp-overview-2017/ ). For questions

about the camp, instructors, and to see what classes

are still open, please contact camp director, Carla

Arnold: 541-663-0776 (home), or 541-786-4535

(cell).

I hope to see you in Joseph on June 10! Now

it's time to get back to the dirt…

Wallowa County Director,

Sandi and Larry Richerson

GRANT COUNTY

Greetings from Grant County

Another month has sped by. It seems not a lot

has changed except the weather. Here the weather

didn't seem to know

whether to rain, snow, or

get hot.

We, Brenda and I

planted our garden

anyway. I put a temporary

greenhouse over the

tomatoes and

cucumbers, which the wind

promptly blew off. Oh well.

Ron Phillips and I traveled to Stanfield thru

the usual spring storms to enjoy some great music

with a lot of great people

Our group, “The Jammers " still meets at the

Valley View Home on Thursday. Surprise us some

Page 3: Rosin Dust · PDF fileRosin Dust June 2017 Blue Mountain Old-Time Fiddlers Association Connecting fiddlers - young and young at heart PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE May 13th took us to Stanfield

time and come by, you are always welcome. We

have a new fiddler joining us, Lori Smith, from

Dayville. It’s great to have her with us. One of our

friends at Valley View had His 100th birthday on

the 28th. Happy Birthday Billy Drinkwater !!! He

sang and yodeled for us quite often in the past.

Ron Phillips said Sumpter show was good as

usual. I'm sorry I missed it. I had to go to

Terrebonne in central Oregon to send an old friend

off on his last trail drive.

I hope to see youall sometime in June, and for sure

in August at the show at the County Fair.

So long from Grant County.

Grant County Director

Carl Stinnett

BAKER COUNTY

I will start off

with the bad news or it

might be good news in

your eyes. Sumpter will

have only one show per

day starting Labor Day

week-end. The show

will start at 1 pm and

last till 3 or 4 pm. We

also will NOT have a

pot luck dinner the Friday before the show. No one

shows up for the pot luck. If you bring a camp

trailer you can still come and camp on Fridays. This

past week end turned out to be a very good show.

We had 24 entertainers in the afternoon and 14

entertainers for the evening show. By the way, the

reason for not having the evening is because of the

lack of spectators. We seem to be playing to

ourselves. We had a lot of good fiddle players as

well as good back-up players. Here is a list of

names that came to Sumpter to play. I also want to

thank you for all the help putting on the show.

Musicians: Bob Hunt, Tom & Carolyn Vickroy, Les

& Evelene Haines, Joan Gray, Mark Ludwick,

Alvin Shaw, Gerry & Joan Myers, Kent Craig,

Carolyn Craig, Ron Phillips, Denny Langford, John

Moon, Julie Milleson, Joe McCutcheon, Veronica

Manis, Ruel Teague, Paula Davenport, Mark &

AGAIN THANK-YOU FOR ALL THE HELP!

UNION COUNTY

Hello BMOTFA members,

May 20th brought the players to La Grande

Senior Center, the following played for the guests,

who enjoyed a very nice dinner put on by the Senior

Center. They always do a great job and so we thank

them.

Justin Williams, Joan

Gray, Ruth Hodge, Les

Shay, Mark Ludwick,

Michelle Hedgepeth,

Sherry Cadwell, Paula

Morton, Joe Morton, Veronica Mannis, Julia

Milleson, Margie Vaughn, Dave Vaughn, Cindy

Frick.

It was a great time and it was too short. Days are

longer now and there is more to do. On May 28th I

pull out and head to Vegas. I am so excited, but

then my mind comes back to my yard and what still

needs to be down. Because that is my palate for my

talent.

Have a great rest of your month and see you in

June.

UMATILLA COUNTY

We made it thru winter and April showers. Now

the trees and flowers are blooming with 90 degrees

plus weather. Sure feels good. On My 13th

, we had

the Stanfield show sponsored by the Stanfield

Senior Center. It was a success.

Joan Gray played the National Anthem. These

are the musicians that played:

I am running way late, but I didn’t have much

to say anyway.

I will finish the report on Irrigon.. The show

started at 6:00pm and finished at 8:45pm. Back-up

only was Carolyn Vickroy, Jackie Tolman and

Kevin Hedgepeth.

I have been doing a lot of sitting around

trying to get my strength back from all the fun.

I have been trying to get the grass mowed but the

rain won out for a while. I finally got most of I

done, I should have used a swather and baler. Oh

well, so goes it.

Yesterday, on

the 27th of May, we

decided to drive to

Sumpter for the day.

We got home about

10:00pm that night, but

we had a lot of fun

anyway. We saw

several musicians we hadn’t seen for some time.

Today was rest-up day, also had the

grandkids for dinner. They had been out camping,

so came by for some of grandmas cooking. It made

for a real nice day. Out daughter and son-in-law

were here too.

Dear Denny and Fellow BMOTFA Members,

I wanted to thank you for the scholarship you

awarded me at this year’s BMOTFA annual

meeting. One of my goals is to graduate from

college debt free, and that goal can only be achieved

through hard work, careful saving and scholarships

like this one.

I will be attending Eastern Oregon University

this fall and am looking forward to being closer to

many of you and playing some old time music

together. Thank you again for the scholarship. It is

greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Clay Johnson.
