In the mountains of Tennessee they have a type of religion in

which people get saved in the spring grow cold in the sum-

mer backslide in the autumn and fall away completely in the

winter Then they get saved all over in the spring revival

The spring revival came to one community in the Tennessee

mountains The revival had gone on about 10 days and peo-

ple knew it was nearing its climax A certain man came into

the meeting and sat in the back row The next night he moved

halfway toward the front The third night he was sitting in the

front row The fourth night he broke out in prayer ldquoLord fill

merdquo

Over to one side there was a woman who knew the man well

She cautioned the Lord ldquoCareful Lord He leaksrdquo

This October let us not follow the habits of these ldquoAutumn

Christiansrdquo

Let us heed the warnings found in Hebrews 312-15mdash

ldquoTake care brothers and sisters that none of you may have

an evil unbelieving heart that turns away from the living

God 13But exhort one another every day as long as it is

called ldquotodayrdquo so that none of you may be hardened by the

deceitfulness of sin 14For we have become partners of Christ

if only we hold our first confidence firm to the end15As it is said ldquoToday if you hear his voice do not harden your hearts

as in the rebellionrdquo

On Oct 12th the food pantry will have an Open House for those of you who may not know where the food pantry is and will be given more infor-mation about what we distribute Thanks to many in the church who have continually supported the food pantry over the years It truly is a miracle that we are able to accomplish what we do It can only happen with the support of our congregation and the community As they say ldquoIt takes a villagerdquo
