Term 3 2019
Term 3 Overview English
This term during writing we will have particular focus on two genres. We will begin the term with persuasive genre and move into information reports later in the term. We will continue to have a strong focus on sentence structure and the use of paragraphs throughout the year. Spelling, handwriting, Blabbermouth (Class Novel), grammar and Writers Notebook will also be a part of our English program this term. Book Week will also be a major focus this term.
This year’s theme is: “Reading is my secret power!”
Mathematics This term in Mathematics we will be focusing on Number and Algebra and some aspects of Measurement and Geometry. We will make many cross-curricular links with other curriculum areas such as Science, Design and Technology and HASS. This term we will cover topics such as time, 2D and 3D shapes, money and fractions and decimals. HASS This term in HASS we will continue exploring the question ‘What were the short- and long-term effects of European settlement on the local environment and Indigenous land and water management practice ?’ This question will incorporate aspects of history, geography and civics and citizenship. Students will have the chance to inquire, research, question and analyse to help them answer this question. Science This term in Science we will be using the Primary Connections program to continue to explore biological science. We will be focusing on “Friends or Foes” and through the use of hands on experiences and investigations, students will discover the connections between plants and animals. We will utilise The HIVE space and make connections with other curriculum areas including Mathematics, English and Design and Technology. Design and Technology This term in Design and Technology we will be using the Lego Mindstorm and Lego WeDo resources in The Hive to do some building and coding.
Kind regards Tess Phillips

Please encourage you child to keep using their diary to record homework, reading and notes. Please use your child’s diary to write any messages or notes to me or feel free to email me at [email protected] Homework Students in the Primary Years are expected to complete 15 minutes of homework each night.
