• EASY COMPLETE OPENINGMilcor hatch covers open easily to 90 degrees. Operation isassisted by enclosed torsion bar or torsion coil spring operators.Automatic hold-open arms keep doors securely open.

• UNOBSTRUCTED OPENINGThe clear hatch opening is virtually unobstructed, with only anarrow hold-open arm at one corner and the torsion bar or springmounted out of the way in the cover or frame.

• COMPLETE SEALHeavy, closed cell, rubber gaskets factory-applied tothe units provide a barrier to weather penetrationand drafts. Latching devices with inside and outsidehandles hold hatches tightly closed.

• CHOICE OF MATERIALSHatches are available in several materials, includinggalvanized steel, aluminum, aluminum cover/galvanized steel curb or stainless steel. Galvanizedsteel is prime painted with rust inhibiting primer.

• THERMAL EFFICIENCIESHatch covers are insulated to keep heat in duringwinter and to repel the sun’s heat in summer. M,RBS and RCS Models feature composite-designcover construction for insulating efficiency. The rigidpolystyrene foam insulation in the covers providesU-factors ranging from 0.093 to 0.173. Milcor roofhatches are also available in RB, RC and RDmodels with fiberglass-insulated covers providing aU-value of 0.26. Curbs are insulated with 1" thickrigid fiberboard insulation.

• HIGH LOAD CAPACITYM, RBS and RCS models composite cover design provides load-carrying strengths to 70 psf. RB, RD and RC models can carrylive loads up to 40 psf.

• COMPLETE SELECTIONMilcor roof hatches are available in single- and double-leafconfigurations, depending upon the size of the units. Single-leafM and RBS and RD-1 models are available in 3' x 2'-6" and 3’ x3’ with a torsion bar mounted in the cover. RB, RC and mostother RD models are available in all sizes with the springsmounted on the frame, offering added strength with larger sizes.Standard size double-leaf units range from 5' x 11' to 8' x 8'.

Overall Product Benefits

Selecting the ProperSize Hatch

The angle at which a person ascends to the roofdetermines the size hatch required for convenientuse. If a ladder is used, the hatch may be rathersmall since the person comes straight up to theroof. As the angle of ascent decreases, the hatchmust be larger to prevent head-bumping accidents.Recommended minimum sizes for various types ofroof access are shown above. If movement ofbulky materials through the hatch is anticipated,double-leaf hatches with openings up to 66 sq. ft.or larger are available. Recent changes to theInternational Building Code require 16 sq. ft open-ings as the standard for various structures.

The Milcor Upright Safety Bar is designed to assist in the safepassage when exiting and entering the roof hatch. A heavy-duty, hinged steel mechanism allows the upward and downwardmovement of the bright yellow safety bar.

No need to attach bar to center of ladder rungs. Milcor’sUpright Safety Bar has been designed to provide the safest wayto exit and enter a roof hatch without restricting the opening orfooting on the top rungs of the ladder.

The Milcor safety rail is designed to aid in safe passagethrough the roof hatch and to protect the roof opening whilethe hatch is open. The railing system consists of a top rail,mid-rail and chain or optional swinging gate with the hatchcurb acting as the toe plate.

Heat and smoke vents can save lives by releasing smoke,decreasing the possibility of deadly smoke inhalation tobuilding occupants. The open covers permit firefighters todouse flames directly from the rooftop location.

Lowercovers are continuously hinged and are14-gauge galvanized steel. Acousticalinsulation in the lower covers is fullycovered and protected by a 22-gaugegalvanized liner.

FrameFlush Cover (F) & Tile Cover (T) Models: Con-structed of extruded aluminum sections with miteredand welded corners. Strap-type concrete anchors arebolted to the frame, and a closed-cell rubber gasket isincluded on the frame to cushion the cover.

CoversFlush Cover (F-style) Models:1/4” aluminum floor plate with a safety tread pattern onthe upper surface, mounted completely flush with theexposed surface of the frame and suitably reinforced tocarry the designed loads.

Tile Cover (T-style) Models:1/4" aluminum recessedfloor plate reinforced to carrythe designed loads. Extruded tile stop provided on thecover and frame to provide a recess to receive (1/8" or3/16") floor tile.

FrameConstructed of welded, formed 3/16" steel and/or 1/4”extruded aluminum sections, shaped to serve as acontinuous drainage gutter around the unit andequipped with a 1-3/8" diameter drainage hole with a 1-1/2” outside diameter drain coupling for outlet into aninside drain. Concrete anchors are provided on theframe.

Covers1/4" steel or 1/4" aluminum floor plate with a safetytread pattern on the upper surface mounted flush withthe frame and reinforced to carry the designed loads.

Torsion SpringAssisted by a torsion spring operators attached to theframe unless otherwise recommended by the manufac-turer.

Cover MountingMounted to the frame on stainless steel hinges andequipped with a zinc-plated stop chain and a rigid hold-open arm on each leaf.
