Lymington can trace back to their roots back to 1876, when the President of the club, Sir Harry Burrard-Neale presented a tent, balls, poles and flags – the minimum requirement for Associa-tion football at the time.Sir Harry also allowed the use of a meadow, and this was the current site of the club, Lymington Sports Ground situated a few hundred yards from the High Street. At first the chosen game was football and rugby and it was the former that gained the accepted name of football and became the adopted code.Lymington Sports Ground was home to unrivalled suc-cess over the years, especially in the early to late 1990’s, when the club – under the name AFC Lymington – won several honours at Wessex League level, under the tutelage of Trevor Williams and then Derek Binns. In the summer of 1998 the club moved to Fawcett Fields, home of New Mil-ton, and amalgamated with their local rivals to become ‘Lymington & New Milton’Following the move a group of local enthusiasts decided that football should remain in the Town and this led to the re-formation of Lymington Town FC.This led to a battle with the football administrators and the club were eventually granted acceptance into Hampshire division three for the start of 1998-99 season.Former Southampton FA cup winner David Peach was in charge for the first season, leading the club to a creditable third placed finish.Ex-Chelsea man David Stride and Andy Leader took over the baton before John Pyatt was appointed manager alongside Gary Squires, as his number two.Pyatt made huge progress with Town with his efforts culminating in a League cup final victory over Bournemouth in 2006-07.South African born Wayne Lockey was appointed manager, after an excellent spell at Wellow. Despite narrowly avoiding relegation in his first sea-son, the club achieved a decent run in the FA Carlsberg Vase.In the 2009-10 season former An-dover and Bashley midfielder Jeremy Stagg was appointed manager, but left the Sports Ground citing ‘work and family commitments’Assistant boss Dave Morris stepped in as manager, but for-tunes dramatically changed on the pitch as the club suffered a shocking run of one win in twenty games at the end of the season, narrowly avoiding relegation to division one.Town appointed brothers Stuart and Matt Hussey, as the clubs new management team and they have made a big impact at the Sports Ground. The duo led Town to a highly credible mid-table finish in their first

Today’s opposition is Lymington Town who did he double over Romsey last season including an eight goal thrashing. Romsey will be looking for revenge today. Last seasons results: 3-2 & 6-2 to Lymington

Romsey Town: A brief history The history of Romsey Town Football Club goes back to 1886 when a meeting took place at the Town Hall to consider the desirability of forming a football club in the town.

In the season 1889/90 they played their football at Alma Road, playing in local football. By the 1920’s they had gained entry into the Hampshire League and played their games at Priestlands which is now Romsey School. They had great success and won the Hampshire Intermediate Cup for the first time.

After the Second World War Romsey Town went on to produce some of their best attacking sides. In 1949 they reached the 2nd Round of the F.A. Cup and the final of the Hampshire Senior Cup in the same season. By 1955-56 they moved to their current home – the Bypass Ground – however they were relegated and the club fell into decline.

By the 1970’s the club started to climb out of the doldrums of lower league football and in 1974-75 won the Hampshire League Division 4 title. By the late 80’s Romsey had reached the Hampshire League Division 1 and in 1990 became the second club (after Bashley) to win the Wessex League title.

In the years to follow the club could not maintain the high standards and went into another decline until re-cently. In 2007 the club finished 3rd in Division 1 of the Wessex League and gained promotion to the Premier Division. After a good start to the 2007-08 campaign, the side suffered a poor second half of the season and finished 18th. The reserves finished 4th in Combination 2 and were beaten finalists in the Southampton Sen-ior Cup Final at St Mary’s.

Today we are back to league action af-ter our run out in the Hampshire Sen-

ior Cup. Some poor defending and some poor refereeing decisions made it more uncomfortable at times that it

should have really been. 4 second half goals did see us home comfortably in

the end with a 7-3 victory. We welcome all the players,

staff, supporters and committee from Lymington Town for today’s re-

arranged game I the Wessex Premier League where we hope to keep up our

reasonably good stat to the season

In the Hampshire Senior Cup, BLACKFIELD & LANGLEY won 5-1 away to TADLEY CALLEVA and EAST COWES VICS won 2-0 at

BROCKENHURST. Joe Adams put Vics ahead in the first half and Matt Evans doubled the visitors' lead in the second half. ALTON

TOWN lost 2-1 at home to NEW MILTON TOWN. ALRESFORD TOWN won 2-0 at home to HAYLING UNITED in an impressive display

thanks to first half goals from Warren Bentley and Stuart Mott. CHRISTCHURCH came from behind to win 3-2 at home to Eversley. Ben

Osborne netted a brace, once from the penalty spot, both goals in the second half and Joe Kittle bagged a winner on the sixth minute

of added on time for the hosts. FAREHAM TOWN won 4-1 at home to FAWLEY AFC. The visitors took the lead with a header after just

three minutes. Wayne Boud raced clear of the defence and levelled the scores on 11 minutes. A Jimmy Cuthbert cross was headed

home by Boud for his second of the game on the stroke of half-time. Jack Kirby made it three after charging down a clearance and

then finishing smartly. Three became four thanks to Sean Dark who finished in the bottom corner. Substitutes TOTTON & ELING won 2

-0 at MONEYFIELDS. ROMSEY WON won 8-3 at home to COWES SPORTS after extra time. Max Draper, Dom Burbridge and Leighton

Speetchley Price scored for the Division One side. Hartley Wintney defeated TEAM SOLENT in their debut Hampshire Senior Cup tie, 7

-2. The Students were three goals behind inside the opening seven minutes. Patterson put the hosts ahead after just two minutes fol-

lowing some poor defending and this lead was doubled through Dean Peltohaka. Ben Dillon made it three for the hosts and Jack Cov-

entry made it four on 18 minutes. On 21 minutes, Solent got a goal back when Luke Williams' free kick was deflected in. Ben Dillon

then converted Ryan Stevens cross to make it five but once again Solent fought back and Williams scored his second. Stevens made it

six late on and Jermaine Hamilton completed the scoring at the end. After extra time, AFC PORTCHESTER beat NEWPORT (IOW) 5-3.

The awards have been announced for Club Of The Month for August. Top-of-the-table, GE HAMBLE, have won the Premier Division

award whilst WHITCHURCH UNITED have won the respective award for Division One. Correction

In the most recent newsletter, Issue Number 109, it stated in the weekend round-up that Russell Cook of Christchurch FC is on loan

there. This is not the case and Cook is registered to play for Christchurch in the Sydenhams Football League (Wessex). Totton & Eling looking for a new Chairman

Chairman Glen Donovan has left his role as Chairman and the club are looking for a new Chairman. Glen Donovan has said, "It is with

sadness, and regret that due to circumstances beyond my control it has not been possible to take Totton & Eling forward as I would

have hoped. I therefore have had no choice but to resign from my position as Chairman."

Please contact Club Secretary, Michael Clarke, if you are interested in the role of Chairman of Totton & Eling Football Club. Sole comes out of retirement

Neil Sole came out of retirement to play for Amesbury at home to United Services Portsmouth on Saturday. He had signed Wessex

forms in case he was needed in an emergency and was pressed into action earlier than he might have expected. With Connor Palmer,

Ben Pryce and Tyler Brockway all suspended and Tom Western, Craig Wheeler away Sole was back in the centre of the defence for

his 251st appearance. He had mixed feelings after the game as he scored the consolation goal deep into injury time in the 1-4 home

defeat. Saturday FA Vase Review (10/09/11) GE HAMBLE won 3-0 away at Dorset Premier League side, Swanage & Herston. Ashley Jarvis, Jamie Barron and Dougie Rowe were

all on target for the visitors and Jamie Musslewhite also missed a penalty for the Premier Division side. ALTON TOWN won 2-1 at home to HAMWORTHY UNITED. The Hammers took the lead from the penalty spot but two goals in three minutes by Simba Mlambo put Alton

through. A Dan Hayes brace gave HORNDEAN a 2-1 home win against LYMINGTON TOWN. Dyer put VERWOOD TOWN ahead away at Cove inside the opening five minutes, but the home side rallied and scored four goals in the process. Mike Haskell scored a consola-

tion goal four minutes from times but it wasn't enough to help Town avoid a 4-2 defeat. An impressive first half display by CHRIST-CHURCH helped them overcome NEWPORT (IOW) 4-1 at Hurn Bridge. Russell Cook scored a brace and Paul Roberts scored on 43

minutes to make it 3-0 at half-time. Newport had a man dismissed before half-time and although John McKie pulled a goal back with a quarter of the game remaining, Callum Burt sealed the victory in the last minute. Division One side COWES SPORTS produced an up-

set, winning 3-2 away to TOTTON & ELING of the Premier Division. The hosts went ahed only for Dominic Burbridge to level before half-time. The hosts regained the lead after the restart before Craig Insley levelled again and right at the end of extra time, 18 year-old

substitute, Jimmy Wykes, netted the winner. Warren Hunt scored a hat-trick, Manny Soetan scored a brace and Ashley Johnson scored as BLACKFIELD & LANGLEY won 6-1 away at Division One side, FLEET SPURS. HAYLING UNITED were a goal ahead at half-

time at EAST COWES VICS and they scored twice more in the second half to win 3-0. Jon Guthrie put PEWSEY VALE ahead away at Corsham Town but the hosts levelled and despite an additional 30 minutes of extra time, the score remained 1-1 and the two sides will

replay at Pewsey on Tuesday night.
